Okay, new Tennis game coming up from Sega. I'll be buying this one based on characters/locales alone, though it coming from the same company that brought us numerous excellent Virtua Tennis games doesn't hurt. Coming to every console/handheld with the exception of the PSP.
Sega Superstars Tennis is an upcoming Tennis video game developed by Sumo Digital and published by Sega. The release date is set for March, 2008. The game will include 16 playable characters from Sega franchises, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Virtua Fighter, Jet Set Radio, Space Channel 5 and many others. It will also feature 10-20 different courts varying on system.
For Reference, Sumo Digital is responsible for the recent Outrun games.

I've been watching this game for a while, and it looks great. I mean, visually, it looks fantastic. That is probably the best imaging of a classic sonic level in 3D EVER. Also:
I can dream.

No, it's a mix of all the classic sega icons. I can't remember where I saw it, but I saw a screenshot with Opa-Opa in it. Fucking Opa-Opa!!
Also look at the green hill screen shot, there's a motobug.
Well I know it's all classic sega icons, but honestly when's the last time we've seen Ulala and Beat, especially Beat?

The PS2 and Xbox.
Right and JSRF was back in, what, '02 and the PS2 game with Ulala in it were a big box o' ports.
Excluding the earlier Superstars game. (and Sonic Riders)

Um, no. Ulala was in Beach Spikers Virtua Beach Volleyball, and Beat was in Yakuza.
This game looks pretty. Hopefully it's fun! Then I will buy it, as it would be pretty and fun.
Again, Beach Spikers was what, '02? And was Beat actually playable in Yakuza?

Ulala was also in Ulala's Channel J in 2005, and in Sega SPLASH golf in 2007. Beat was a visible only cameo in Yakuza, but was also playable as a secret character in Sega SPLASH golf.
Wii Sports + SEGA nostalgia + deeper game = win.
Dude Ulala's Channel J was a freakin' Cell Phone game.
But whatever. I still say it serves well as a Dreamcast 10th anniversary reunion game.

Fucking blammo. I will never argue sega trivia with you. You're too much for me.
edit: if you have any awesome info on Ristar that's not well known let me know i would love to hear it
Ristar was originally the concept for Sonic the Hedgehog. Developed in concept in 1990, Ristar began as a bunny rabbit who used his ears to pick up rings and throw them at enemies. Yuji Naka thought this gameplay element slowed the game down too much, and when the switch was made to a hedgehog, the idea came up to let the player turn into a ball and throw themselves at enemies instead of rings, hence the stretchy ears idea was dropped. Interestingly enough, this idea would get revisited years later in Sonic Adventure 2 when Sonic gained the ability to throw rings.
Internal Sega concept art when Sonic and Ristar where the same character:
Anyways, after Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic team returned to make their next game. Resurrecting the idea of being able to stretch your ears, the game was reborn as feel, where you played a small black ball with 2 long yellow ears who used his hands to grab at stuff and throw them. At the last minute, Feel was changed to ristar, and the character was redrawn to resemble a star.
Ristar runs on the same game engine as Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles, and uses the same graphics compression.
A beta image of Ristar back when he was Feel:
EDIT: I meant Sonic Adventure 2, not Sonic Advanced 2.
Still, I'm thrilled about the Jet Set Radio representation. If the Wii controls are good, I'll pick this up.
Sega picked a good time to release this. I've been pining for their glory days ever since NiGHTS 2 came out.
Sega was making a Clockwork Knight RPG for the GCN, but it never came out. But they do remember it, and if there was one game where Pepper would make a cameo in, it'd be this game. I mean... fucking Opa-Opa. That makes me smile big.
There better be a PSO level
I don't even care about HUmars or anything, just give me a good level from pso.

This makes me sad inside. Are there any websites where I can learn more about the RPG? I thought the only canceled CK game was the Bomberman-esque Clockwork Knight 3 on the Saturn. (Actually, I'm glad that one never saw a release. It seemed like a slap in the face after the platformers.)
I'll be picking up the 360 version most likely.
Sega never publicly showed it off. Overworks was developing it, and it was called Knight n' Knight. I'll try to dig up some screenshots, but I don't recall ever seeing any.

All they have to do is include 3 control schemes:
1. Traditional Wii Sports Tennis, for 'casual gamers'
2. Include completely traditional controls using the nunchuck+wii remote (think Mario Strikers)
3. Some kind of mode that works exactly like Wii Sports Tennis, except with the nunchuck attached to move your character.
If they do that, they please everyone. I'd personally be most excited about an 'expanded' Wii Sports Tennis control scheme with the nunchuck, but I'd really want them to include the original Wii Sports style control because I know so many people that love Wii Sports Tennis and it'd be a shame to not allow them to jump right into a new, fully fledged Tennis game on the Wii.

slash's #3 is in the game, at least.
Also...
I'm shocked that the 360/PS3 versions have online play while the Wii doesn't. Especially since Ghost Squad and NiGHTS have online modes. (Sega: Putting WiFi in games that don't need it and leaving it out of the ones that do.)
Teknopathetic would be good.

How I've missed you.
Guybrush confirmed?
Hopefully this sells well enough to warrant a sequel where they can go crazy with series representation. I want the Tennis equivalent of Smash Bros. Brawl.

EDIT: Some impressions while I upload some screenshots to image shack
-The DS version looks DAMN good considering the hardware
-The PS2/Wii versions look identical. The wii version is almost assuredly a PS2 port, not the other way around.
-The NiGHTS level is based off of Aqua Garden from Journey of Dreams
-The sega press names for these screenshots indicate that the 360 is the lead console for the next gen versions
Nintendo DS:
PS2/Wii
EDIT: Someone might want to add "NSF56K" to the topic title...
EDIT DOS: Also, I'm not uploading all my pictures because I don't want to flood this topic with 200 shots. So I'm just going through and choosing the most interesting.
As far as the Wii version, I don't mind so much if it's a PS2 port, because I think it looks just fine. What I would want out of it as far as graphics go is widescreen and 480p support.
Most importantly, though, is that I want really, really good Wii controls. That is the essential and most important aspect of a Tennis game on the Wii. If they do it well, then I couldn't care less about the graphics. Which appear to be just fine in my book.

EDIT: Actually, this next gen press pack looks identical to the one that was released months ago so no new next gen screenshots.
EDIT DOS: But for fun:
DS vs PS2/Wii vs 360/PS3
