So I was trying to find a way to make Mech Commander run in XP and instead ended up finding the "Shared Source Release" of Mech Commander 2, which runs in XP if I remember correctly. What does that mean, apart from "here's the source code"? Is that just the source code or is the whole game + resources there? If I can't use that to play MC2 legally, what can I do to make Mech Commander run in XP? Or is that an uncommon problem requiring a unique solution for my system?
that link indicates that you can download all the source files (packaged in MC2.exe), but you still need MS Visual C++ 2005, Microsoft MS Build2.0, and the Feb '06 release of DirectX to build it.

The way it reads to me is if you can get it to build, you can play it, among other things.
