A problem I've had before but never actually fixed.
My computer correctly obtains an IP address from my local router, but when I try to use any of my internet applications including Firefox they won't connect - they sit forever on "looking up www.google.com".
Does anyone know what settings I should be looking at to fix this? It was working fine last night, so I don't know what's changed since.
Are there any other computers on the router? If so, can they get online? If not:
Have you reset everything? (Shut down the modem/router/pc. plug in the modem, watch the lights until it connects, then plug in the router, wait 30 seconds or so, then turn on the PC). Make sure the MODEM connects to your ISP.
I'd also suggest calling your ISP's support, there's at least a decent chance they will be able to solve the problem or, at least, narrow it down. If you get a complete idiot that doesn't seem to want to help just hang up and call back.

2. Ping a known IP address (74.125.19.104 is one).
3. Traceroute a known IP address.
4. Type 'nslookup' and see what happens.

if you do then the other router has to be set to PPPoE, and the username and password have to be put in.
