I actually found them on play.com, for about the same price as they would cost from your deal if I was getting them delivered here.

e: Actually, it was only Dreamfall that is as cheap. Jade Empire costs about three times more then your deal D:

If I didn't already have a 360 (and thus the £330 that I spent on that gone), I'd seriously consider picking that bundle up. As it is, I've made my choice, so I'll be waiting until the PS3 gets a lot cheaper.

Some PA help is required. I'm trying to catch up on the Resident Evil story and I want to start from the very beginning. I have a DS, Wii and a 360. If someone could tell me which games are essential to the storyline that would be great.

I enjoy the story to RE! I think essential purchases to catch up would be RE1 remake, RE2, RE3, RECV for the GameCube (maybe RE0 aswell, but its not that essential really). I hear Umbrella Chronicles is a good game to bridge the gap in story between the original games and 4, so I would go with that next. RE4 is now on the Wii, so I would get that version. Then you have the 360 to purchase RE5 when that eventually comes out. All are worth playing through. I wish I didn't get rid of my GC to get a Wii... as I ended up having to sell my Wii when I was poor. I still have all the RE games for GC but now have no means of playing them. Next payrise (and next time Wii's are actually avaliable) I think I'm gonna hafta pick one up with Umbrella Chronicles... and Galaxy. Galaxy looks so good....

The story (and I guess it is a term that can be classed as a bit thin in regards to Resident Evil) is a bit campy and nonsensical, but it's enjoyable. The games are brilliant, though old fashioned in their sensibilities. Well worth playing through from the start though.

They are all on the cube.

Start with the REmake of 1 to get a feel for the series.

    Follow on with 2.

Then you can go back to 0 without (slight) spoiling of plot from 2.

    3

After that you're free to hit CV and Umbrella Chronicles in whatever order you see fit.

    And finally 4 I guess.

Of course I suck and have played them all except for 4 and UC, and I plan to get UC before 4. Yes! I know it's meant to be the best game since Super Sliced Bread Bros. I will get to it eventually. I'm just waiting for the time to be right.

Turns out that pretty soon I'm gonna be starting to make two regular 3 and a half hour train journeys a week. Therefore I have decided to look into getting a PSP (yes I have a ds, it is awesome, but for a 3-hour train journey I think the PSP's movie playingness might have the edge). Has anyone seen any stellar deals on these things lately?

Lewie -- I know this is a few pages late but when you got through to Dell Ireland you were through with Dell HQ. The UK arm of Dell is based in Ireland, and sometimes it's more frustrating when you're placing a company order to get the Irish sales rather than the Indian sales. Their accents can get really thick.

It really won't. The PSP's form factor is appalling for watching movies on three hour train journeys; between the tiny, tiny screen and the way you either have to fold over and crick your neck, or hold the ungodly mass of the thing up with one or both to see it just sucks. Plus, it makes you look like a freak all the while you are doing this.

You would be better off getting a laptop to be honest.

    It really won't... what?

Well thanks for the info about the movie watchingness, but the way I see it I'd have to hold it in front of me if I was playing a game on it. surely I can just prop it up against my backpack?.

Anyway, way I see it is this:

    Laptop = £300 ish
    Doesn't fit in my pocket.
In my experience the batterys tend not to last 3 and half hours.
Don't play metal gear portable ops or loco roco or patapon
    Quite heavy
    I already have a PC
    Doesn't fit in my pocket.

    PSP = £100 ish
    Fits in my pocket
Batterys might actually last 3 and half hours, if not, buy a spare.
Plays metal gear portable ops, loco roco, patapon, final fantasy tactics etc
not as heavy as a laptop
not a pc (so admittedly doing those spreadsheets will be a bitch)

So you see why I might want one instead of a laptop. Though laptops are useful in their own way, I don't need one.

    Plus I fucking hate laptops.

The point is is that you think you'll ever use it to watch films, but watching films on a portable fucking sucks. I had a five hour train journey the other day and spent the time to rip Inland Empire to my iPhone. Managed to watch it for about 10 minutes before the neck cramp and tiny detail less screen was killing me.

Buy a PSP for the games (WipEout is super coolio 110%) but don't even pretend it'll be any good for watching movies.

Or get one of those snazzy portable dvd players with a built in screen. They are about the size of a CD player and have a much better DVD viewing experience. And then you have your DS for games, and that for films. Sorted.

You would be better off getting a laptop to be honest.

Or a pocketpc. I picked mine up on ebay for a decent price and it'll play nearly all scummvm games (even does a half decent job attempting Curse of Monkey Island with the snazzy graphics) and I can throw all kinds of media on it too.

Alternatively take your ds with you AND an AV500 (I got one for my girlfriend). You can get them cheap-ish (I got a re-furbished 60gb model for £120 including delivery) and it'll play practically anything you throw on the hard-drive. It can also record off TV/Sky/Games (For doing Let's Plays!), and is a kick arse MP3 player to boot. I've had it playing avi (divx/xvid), wmv and mp4 up to now.

If you want to save some cash I BELIEVE (although I can't check right now) that the DS has a homebrew Media Centre application available for it. It's reasonably limited at what it can play but providing you didn't mind a tiny bit of re-encoding you could load up a 2gb or 4gb SD-Micro with films/tv shows and watch them on your ds. You'd need an R4 or equivelent card but they can be picked up for about £20, and then about another £15 for the SD-Micro.

If you're after a PSP I don't believe they've dropped in price too much recently I'm afraid. If you do get one, I highly suggest you mod it and use the custom media player application available for it, then you can bung films on a memory stick as well as getting UMDs.

I dunno if that's any use, but you've got some options there. I may too have a lengthy commute coming up so I'll be picking myself up a DS-Lite.

Thankfully it comes to an end next week but I've had an almost 2 hr each way train commute since November. There is no way I would have survived it without my DS! As it is I've got to work right through my DS backlog and my only worry is missing my stop because I'm too engrossed in the game. This has happened to me once, V embarrassing, deep into Luminous Arc (FFT knock off but it did the job of keeping me entertained), I lied to the ticket collector when I was taking the train back to my stop and said I had fallen asleep. Praise the good lord Nintendo for making modern life so much more bearable!

The combination of FFT, LocoRoco and Patapon are making the PSP mighty tempting these days however. I sense I will cave in soon.

I haven't had any problems watching films and TV programs on my PSP whilst travelling to work on the bus. I actually think films look pretty good on the PSP's gorgeous screen. However I find watching films doesn't pass the time as well as playing games does. Often when playing a game the time just drops away and I'm like 'Am I here already?' or 'Shit that was my stop'. With films I'm much more aware of the passage of the journey. Plus I thinks it's annoying if a film either finishes before you get to your stop, or you have to get off half way through (one of which occurs in 99% of all journeys).

So I usually just opt for a game, which usually means my PSP gets left at home in favour of my DS - a situation that will reverse shortly once I finish the Phantom Hourglass and move onto FFT.

This isn't helping you now but a warning for the future when you do find it...

It's right good fun with a group but remember when you first got the Wii? Remember how you spent a long time playing Wii sports? Remember how your arms and shoulders ached the next day?

Nah, I'm the only person round here who actually enjoyed the demo. I know the setting is generic, but I liked what I played and wanted more. I tried the first demo the other year, and that was dire. When I tried this new one, I was expecting it to be just as bad, but was surprised to find I really enjoyed it. I'm also really impressed that the devs basically scrapped what they were working on, and built a completely new game in the space of a year. I didn't want to pay full price for it, I don't think it was that good, but it was a solid FPS.

Thanks to all the guys who weighed in on my psp problem.

    1. I have an r4 and the homebrew player on it, but the screen is really really tiny and the quality is tbh piss poor due to major artifacting. Despite this I have watched several things on it all the way through and enjoyed them. I just think PSP might be a better option for this.

    2. Portable dvd player might be an ok idea, if i didn't know what their battery life was like. I used to work in argos and people brought them back all the time because of it. Then again, if they're cheap enough....

    3. No friggin laptops. definately not ones without a friggin optical drive.

well if a slim and lite is still £126 overall it's still too much imho so I guess i'll make do with the ds for now.

But damn that patapon looks fun....

EDIT: Hey that GAME site has psp slim and lite with a friggin free game for 129.99! Rainbow six vegas isn't my first choice, but i'd take it for that much!

They are UK based, but they sell USA versions of games, which for the PSP and PS3 makes them generally pretty cheap. I only used them once to buy a USA version of Puzzle Quest for a Christmas present for someone with a USA Wii, and they were fine. Other people here swear by them though.

They are in a pretty good position to do well with this. If the interface/service/range hold up, I see good things for them.

Hmm...I wonder if I will be able to use affiliate links with them...

    *ponders*

I am not 100% sure if different prices for different songs is good or bad. I know big record companies want it, so it feels intrinsically dirty. I definitely like the idea of older stuff being cheaper, and if charging more for most of the crap in the chart can subsidise me getting less mainstream/older stuff cheaper then I am all for it.
