I have been doing rather well for myself as a medic over the last couple of days. Topped the scoreboard a number of times, or came 2nd/3rd. Not that it's too hard. You just have to attach yourself to the best scorers. Although I DID manage to double and then re-double my "Most healed as medic" score. It's... over 9000 now. Literally.
Also, I'm really curious to know what the gameplay change that they're introducing through the Medic and then to the rest of the classes will be. Apparently it's quite major? Let us have fun guessing the right answer!
It is always fun having a medic that is not scared of death.

I always sigh a little inside when I'm healing one of the top scorers and they just run out into a crowd of enemies. The reason they can stay alive so long and kill so many people is because they're being constantly healed by someone like me, but I've got no similar defences, and the number of times one of my healees has forgotten to account for my needs in staying alive is quite high. I just have to resort to jumping around like a mad man to try and avoid getting killed, but it hardly ever works.
So I got the orange box for Christmas and am just now getting around to playing me some TF2. Could I get an invite to the PA Steam group? Steam ID is McMoop.
True, but sometimes they are about to do something so totally suicidal it's not worth wasting 75% of an ubercharge I can use on someone.
Normally I just send them off to their deaths and flee. I expect the same from a medic that is healing me and I decide to rush a group of enemies.
As medic I tend to die more to a stray rocket than someone actually targeting me when I'm actually playing defensively. That happened sooo many times on Dustbowl where I've been trying to get an uber charged and out of nowhere comes a crit rocket or sticky and kaboom.
My usual reaction when they do that is "...I'm not fucking going there."
Well, sure, but I find that if I don't take risks I stop being useful to the top scorers. And as a medic all you can offer is usefulness.
I fully understand why medics bail on people running into suicidal spots, but I like to thing that most of the time people push more more since they believe the medic will follow them.
If I push a larger group and kill 2 medics then die it was worth it, even if I get the medic healing me dead too.
I have to admit guys, I have a raging TF2 addiction.
Now, let me explain.
I like playing lots of games. Gaming is my hobby (well one of them), and it helps me relax and have a better day if my days been shitty.
Well, since I got TF2, my love of variety has died.
Slaughtered, as if by a crit rocket.
When I try to play, oh, say, Mario Galaxy, Cave Story, Company of Heroes, Baldurs Gate 2, That-one-game-i-bought-thats-about-a-platforming-tar-man, and the like, I enjoy it for 4 minutes (give or take) and then a little thought bubble pops up like a scout spamming the E button.
I think, 'I could be playing TF2 right now instead'.
In the end, by minute 8 or 9, I give up, either booting up TF2 or merely not playing anything at all.

Is this the same for you guys?
I don't have much else to play on, so I'm not in exactly the same situation, but I do play TF2 quite a bit.
also, would've been more poignant and literal had you used more TF2 allusions like, "the realization struck me as a Scout does to middle point on Granary," or "the implications seemed more startling than a Spy about to stab my Heavy buddy in the back"

I'm surprised at the amount of medics that keep healing me when I go on obvious suicide rushes.
If theres one thing I love about TF2 spies, its being a medic and spotting the spy behind you and watching them run for the heavy when you can't kill them in time. I just wish I would have gotten a screen of when i turned around and a spy undisguised himself right against my face as I looked behind myself, nearly crapped my pants.
I love this game but I have a very annoying recurring problem when I try to play. Everything runs smoothly for a while but after 10-15 minutes the game visually freezes though I can still hear sounds and voices for a while after.
The only thing I can do at that point is disconnect from the server and reconnect which is really irritating and if the server is full I likely won't be able to get back on at all.
So, does anyone have any clue what might be causing this and how I can fix it?
The first thing I would be concerned about is the video card getting too hot. Find a program that can monitor your card and check the temp logs after a freeze. I'd hunt up one I used to use, but it's late...
That was some excellent Pyroing, savooipeerd*. On that second to last point on Dustbowl, why don't more people pipejump from the door to the point? I've taken that point so many times that way. As a sweet side bonus, I was able to put two stickies on the point, blow them up and two people, land on the point and take it. ALL IN MID AIR.
I was playing on a fuckaround server and we ended up taking most of the points on a dustbowl map by having a web of 12 unkillable medics crawling across the map.
*p.s. I'm Norm, from Cheers.
For some reason, I have more success as a pyro on the PA servers than I have on pubs. For all the other classes it's pretty much the opposite, but as a pyro I often become FIRE INCARNATE.
And I finally got a respectable score as a demoman last night, thanks to the three engineers on dustbowl that refused to die but kept trying to rebuild those sentries instead of killing me or running away. Thanks guys!
I've got a server running at home if you guys wanna try filling it up. We can see how many europeans we can get and I'll make it permanent if there are enough.
Address is zwa.ath.cx:27015 or 78.86.133.19:27015
Also I have no idea how well it will run so we can find out...

According to the server browser my ping isn't that much greater than on the american ones, but I guess I'll try it out.

Well that's a bit pathetic as its so much closer...
Since one of the updates I've been having this issue where (apparently) the actual player's hitbox trails the player model by a split second. For example, if I am sniping and someone is running to the right, if I shoot them in the head usually nothing will happen, but if I aim slightly behind their head I will get a kill. It also occurs when I play heavy, and am firing at someone running for cover; I can hit them for another half second after they are behind cover because their "shadow" hitbox hasn't gotten there yet.
So there are obviously times when this is advantageous or disadvantageous, but I'd rather fix it if possible. Anyone know if there is something I can do about this?
I don't usually take screens because I run my system with lower graphics to get a higher framerate, but:

We should have a poll on a class Tyrannus should pick. He's getting bored of soldier.
You buggers confuse me with your disguising and your sneaking.
Tyrannus should totally go demo, it's like soldier but worrying.
And I have a few hit detection issues myself, but they're very inconsistent, and I can't be sure they have any connection to updates or even server performance. I do recall a round of 2fort where everybody's heads appeared to be in their shoulders, though.

Actually, Tyrannus as a soldier scares me more than any demo except for maybe iowa/that one guy who always plays demo.
Whoever that DefinitionF kid was he could actually hit me as a sniper.

Right now, the game is projecting the player models farther into the future than they'll actually be. To fix it, mess with your interpolation settings in the developer console. Specifically, use these commands:
cl_interp *
cl_interp_ratio 1
rate 30000
Replace the * with your average ping divided by 1000. So, if your average ping is 50, that would be 0.05. You'll have to repeat this procedure each time you boot the game up, though, so be warned. If you want to figure out your average ping, turn the net graph on while you're playing with the command "net_graph 1" and watch the ping readout. When you're done with that display, turn it off again with "net_graph 0".
Hope that helps!

My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.
So after I spent a couple weeks on pubs due to the relative hardness of the PA servers I came back today and noticed a marked improvement in my playing to the point that I was occasionally grabbing the top three without playing a medic. I'd recommend anyone getting frustrated with the PA servers take some time to practice with the pubs.

Please.

With mine you just need to make sure it's plugged in before you start up TF2 and itll take over the work off your sound card.
You might need to manually set it as the default device in control panel though.

HE BETTER.
I'm being lazy, and havn't updated it yet.
The previous version, which has *most* of the core maps, is here:
http://www.filecloud.com/files/file.php?user_file_id=656248
There's a few new ones, and a couple updated one, not in there. It'd save you some time if you connect to the server, though. <_<
I'll try to get a fully-updated one up overnight, though. If I don't slack.
See this thread for individual ones you may need.

I've been playing on some pubs and been called fag a lot. Sigh.
PA needs a lot more European TF2 players.
