So I came into some money recently, I decided to finally go out and buy a laptop. Perfect timing too, as my regular desktop seems to be on the last leg. So as it always seems to be, I come to you, oh wise penny arcaders to help me out.
I'm looking for something that is easy to upgrade if required, and has enough memory that I can store my zune store and music without it killing it too much. Right now I'm not interested in gaming on it, but that's why it'd be nice if it was easy to upgrade, in case I decide to later on. I'm planning to use the laptop mainly for writing and web surfing. My budget is 1500 tops. I always used microsoft xp and office to write.
I went to Fry's yesterday, and found a sony vaio similar to this one;
http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665305976
Except the one I saw has 2gb of memory and 200gb hard drive. Same screen size, and comes with Vista. For 849.00
Then of course there's the always popular apple;

The vaio seems like an extremely good deal compared to the apple, which leads me to wonder if there's something I'm missing. I have heard of the headaches some have with vista, which is what makes me a bit iffy on it. The deal though, is only good till this tuesday, so I don't want to miss it. If I buy an apple product, how is it's word program?
Any other computers you guys would recommend? What else is a standard item to buy when getting a computer?

Most of my experience lays with PC computers, so I stuck with that when I recently purchased a laptop. One piece of advice I can give is that a brand new laptop loaded with Vista is nice and stable, with no more problems than the same laptop loaded with XP. With any laptop, I'd suggest formatting it and reinstalling the OS yourself, without all the extra crap, as soon as you get it. That'll fix most problems you'd run into.
Can't say anything about Sony laptops as a brand, myself. I will echo that a 15.4 screen size seems like a nice happy medium - not too big and heavy, but still nicer to view than the tiny 14" ones.
Unless you get a laptop with a robust video solution, even if you decide later you want to game, you're basically going to be screwed as in 99.9% of cases, you cannot upgrade the video in a laptop. Laptop video cards aren't really cards per se, they're chips on the mobo in the laptop.
As someone who recently purchased a laptop (Asus FS3A-A1) I can't overemphasize how helpful perusing The Notebookreview.com forums was. If you think you're ever going to want to play semi-modern games, I strongly recommend you read the Mobile Graphics Info Page to get an idea of how the various cards shake down. They have an entire subforum dedicated to "what laptop should I buy" as well that may be helpful.
