Alan Tudyk is being typecast as a guy who dies suddenly and unexpectedly in movies
and that is wrong
Speaking of which -
Is there a reason they killed him off in Serenity with such abruptness? As a main character his death could have had some weight, and I suppose in a way it did, but it just seemed so sudden. I just wonder if there was some on-set friction or something or if this was how it was always supposed to go.
I remember reading or hearing at some point that Whedon wanted to make it very clear as he put things in the shit that he might just kill everyone to finish up the Serenity story, and he had to make us believe that might happen, hence doing the hard part of killing the loveable Wash.
Yeah, it did shock the shit out of me the first time so I suppose it worked. But damn...Wash. Kill the whore, or maybe River...
Whedon is a callous bastard. In Angel, the most likeable character was probably Wesley. So he puts him through hell. First, a prophecy gets planted that leads Wesley to send Angel's son to some hell planet dimension. As it turns out, not necessary, but he gets his throat slit anyway while doing it. Then when Angel finds out he was behind it, he tries to smother him in the hospital bed. Eventually, things are mended between them, and everything is looking up, and his love interest for the past three seasons, Winifred, hooks up with him and everything is great and then Whedon kills off Fred, and has her soul burned into nothingness by a demon god that then becomes a regular character. And then Wesley dies suddenly in the last episode. And then, in the comic, he gets turned into the ghost-servant of an evil law firm for eternity. Goddamn.
Honestly I think 3:10 to Yuma had the best final action scene of any movie ever made.
You otherwise never really see just how incredibly talented Crowe's character was. There are hints here and there, like how he just took out the Indians, but you don't get the same impact as in the end. He was almost totally action-less throughout the movie, or at least in the strict traditional western "shoot at people" sense. Then BAM. Just blows like 5 people away. You really get a bigger sense of just how incredibly easy it would've been for him to escape if he hadn't been intrigued and self-assured by the entire event.
