I've been playing the electric guitar for about 8 months now and I'd like to buy some new stuff. Whats a good/cheap reputable online guitar stuff store? Also, this was mostly triggered by me somehow losing my cable, so whats a good cable to buy? I want to get some kind of effects pedal (undecided as to which kind yet) as well, so would I need to buy a second cable to be able to use that? I'm not replacing my guitar or amp (yet) so I don't need advice on that.

Have you tried craig's list? I'm a big fan of trying before you buy. Also what do you want the pedal for? If it's just to play around with tone a good amp can do that and in my opinion is a better investment. The amp is the second half of your instrument.

I hadn't thought of craigslist, I'll check that out. I want a pedal because I'd like to play some very heavily distorted stuff (like stoner rock/metal, etc.) that my amp, although decent, doesn't do.

    what guitar/amp do you have?

stoner stuff, typically looking for stuff like big muff's, woolly mammoths, etc. but be aware that most stoner/doom stuff gets played by old dudes with deep pockets. vintage/boutique stuff. you might want to invest in a better amp before you start dropping cash on pedals. because no matter how good the pedal, you throw the signal through a crap amp, and you get a crap sound.

best plan, watch craigslist like a hawk. be patient, good stuff comes up. as soon as it does, be prepared to jump on it.

I've had some luck before with eBay, just buy non-name stuff. I paid £50 for a Vintage-brand thing with a Floyd Rose bridge, which was pretty good really, had to get it set up though.

Not going to work for more up-market things though, stuff seems to go on there for the same price you can buy new things for.
