The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
I'll have to admit that I debated posting this, since I didn't have much to say in the OP. But really now, I dont think I need to goad or tempt you into talking about this.
I was trying to find a Valve email to ask about authenticity but cants find anything.
Gabe Newell's email is GabeN AT valvesoftware.com. It says so in the commentary for all the games (that has commentary).
I read somewhere that it would be a little more appropiate if the episodes were called Half-Life 3 episodes instead of 2, but that Episode One was too close to be released to change it. Or maybe I'm just imagining things.
Anyway, as others have already said, it'll be a loooooong time before HL3 will released.

On closer examination, a lot of that picture looks like it could have come from the Unreal Engine 3 tech demos they were showing a while back, the ones where they used forced perspective and other tricks to make all the stuff look more impressive...And some of that architecture does sort of remind me of Gears too.
I suppose that it could be convergent evolution again, but if I wanted to fake this up and make it really good to throw people off, creating a super-detailed crowbar then rendering in UT and pasting it onto a background composed of other UEngine demo material and such would be a method I'd consider.
FWIW though, this is a really good picture of how such a thing could look...in five years.
Source can't do that, anyway. Valve's gonna ride out the Source engine through all the Episodes and probably through HL3, if there is a HL3 and not... y'know... more episodes.
I thought the bottom line valve got to with episodes is while the idea is what they love and wished it workedl ike (1 episode every 3-4-5 months), it ends up being years and awful, and there done with it for now after hl2.
I think we would see more ambience in the picture, steam coming from the grating, birds etc. lots of physics objects like barrels. On top of that if were led to belive its the HL3 universe, pending whatever major BS they pull in episode 3, theres no signs of a resistence, or combine. They are very clear what kind of world you are in in HL2, and that you cant escape either faction, until you get into the wilderness, which is owned by the new animals that have inhabited it.
Gabe Newell has gone on record saying he wishes that he would have called them Half-Life 3: Episode 1 and so on and that is the way they see them at Valve.

Seriously, Half-Life 3 is probably like 5 years away at least
So no.
Unless they're working on it concurrently to the episodes!
Ah, who am I kidding?

Last I read was that they'll finish Episode 3 and assess the situation, whether they want to continue episodically or make another big release.
Word. It's pretty as hell, I'd love to play Half-Life in an environment like that.
This is still my favorite fan made HL3 screen.
I kind of hope that Valve keeps making Episodes for the Half-Life games, but I'd rather see another regular release of HL3 after HL2:EP3 is released.
I don't want to have to fucking wait between episodes with those goddamned cliffhangers.

Or maybe I do because it will be so awesome?
The OP, not the other one.
Yeah, but Gordon has had more than one. The crowbar he had in HL he gets again in HL2, but didn't Barney give him another one in Episode 1?

Its a nice rendering though who ever did it.
Looks like something that could have been done by someone over at CGTalk. I haven't been over there in a while, but I wouldn't be suprised if it was.
Either way-
it fake.
Episode 3 will come. Valve will be quiet for a long time- then there will be news.
The world will keep turning.
I hate to be a big nerd but it made me kind of sad the original crowbar didn't survive HL2.
I wanna see a huge city with sun filtering through broken windows.
Or what a beautiful msadjsajd?
'Oh what a beautiful morning!'
I feel the same way. I really want him to get it back, even though it's pretty implausible.
