So the new laptop I bought apparently only has a trial version of word 07, seeing as it keeps asking me for a product key I don't have. It seems it's only a trial, which is a shame seeing as I liked word. Just not enough to spend 149.00 on it.

So what are the alternative out there? I'm really looking for something as close to word as possible, that I can still load up my word files with no problem.

i've been using open office for a while, and its pretty awesome for most everything. no problems loading up any microsoft formats, and it can save to em too in case someone specifies a certain file format.

Yeah, if you don't have Microsoft Office, OpenOffice.org is the way to go.

There's AbiWord, if all you need is a word processor. It may not be 100% compatible with MS Word documents, though.
