Does China have a lot of gay people
China has as many gay people as most other countries.
But not since 1949 have they ever done the "girls bad boys good" thing. Mao actually is responsible for that, as he pushed the idea of everyone being equal. Confucius, who emphasized filling your role in life, is the one who fucked women over.
Some people still think the old-fashioned way though, mostly in rural areas. In the big cities you don't get much of that.

In fact, short of being able to get married, gays actually have a pretty good life here. It's primarily thanks to the Chinese culture thing of minding your own damned business. You don't bug me I don't bug you I don't get involved you don't get involved etc.
So really gays are left to their own devices and there is minimal discrimination against them.
The only thing they really can't do is get married, but otherwise all my gay friends say that China is pretty gay-friendly all in all.
