Ok, this game was a great game, purely because of the concept. It was about 10 years ago when I bought it from a Harvey Norman, from the bargin bin. I had a bad habit of buying games, playing them for a bit, then taking them back, citing that it didn't work on my system, which was a lie. A blatant lie.
Unfortunately, in this case, I gave the game back out of habit, regretting it a year later when I had a craving for it.
The game concept was that you were a time traveller, in a space ship. You float over various planets (aqua, terran, fire, etc) and you have these seeds of civilisations. So, you place the aqua seed on the water planet, then scroll forward in time to see how they go. As you scroll through, you'll see a problem arise, then the civilisation would be wiped out. Your goal was to bring the civs to their fullest existence, by going to the problem time period and intervening, either with an item (one of the situations involved the aqua people being wiped out by a local species. What I did was take a spear from one of the other races I was watching, and give it to the aqua people so they would fight off the creatures. Problem was that they then killed off the species, which was their main source of food, so they died.) or by telling the people that they needed to do something.
If someone would tell me this games title, and where I could find it, I would appreciate it. It had crappy graphics, and was a budget game a long time ago, but I'm hoping I could find it!

It was interesting, because I dont remember it having a manual. I slowly figured out that you had to fly your ship close to stars to gain fuel for time travel, but if you stayed too long, you would damage your craft. Also, as you travel through time, aliens would come and attack you as well, creating a new element, as you did repairs yourself, or advanced your civs enough to do the repairs for you.
Awesome game, and yet, where is it?
I'm rather hoping I find this game. Funny thing, I found a game a while back that refused to work on my system because it was far too fast (its was the original UFO, great game) and I contacted the company that made it, not expecting a response. That day, I'd been sent a patch specifically for my system! Who keeps patching something that hasn't been made for so long?
Good times.
I thought this too.
Edit: possibly 3?
No. Unfortunately, my mind doesn't reach back that far....
It was on a CD, so far as I remember, and it was on an old school PC, not an amiga though, a proper PC.
I've looked at the Human stuff, and that isn't it.
What did you control, exactly? Was it like a point and click like an adventure game, or did you have to control little guys like Lemmings? What was the viewpoint? Side, overhead, isometric?

I managed to track this down by remembering the one thing that I found specific about the game. They used the term 'seeding the planet', and I found it interesting at that age.
So, thanks to all! Problem solved! Feel free to lock it!
See: Spore...

some of the games on that list are from the mid-90s... or even at least one or two NES games
though I'm still looking around...
what type of game was it? Action, strategy, RPG, etc?
Thanks for your help, but, as above, I FOUND IT! I've emailed take 2 (as theres no listing on their website..) and now all I need to do is by the game and get it patched for a current pc. I may be posting another thread very soon.....

sounds cool
I did, problem is, I want to be sure I can run the damn thing! The min specs make me nervous, because my PC is clearly better than it was 10 years ago. I've emailed Take 2 and hope to hear from them soon.
Thanks again for all the help!
Take 2 responded:
On a more serious note though you could probably look into a program like MoSlo used to do or get Virtual PC from Microsoft (Free) and install some older operating system in that virtual PC, a game like this would probably one of the few that would run in such an environment...

Dear Take 2,
Why do you mock me so? Can you not see that I so love your wonderful products that it breaks your heart? So much so that you will not only send me a virtual copy of this game, but also spend numerous man hours creating a patch so I have to do the least amount possible to enjoy your game once more? WWJD, Take 2, WWJD?
Peter/Gleve (they made me sign in to send the message. Make me create an account will you?)
