<End of Day>
Captain Olimar always makes sure to return to his spaceship before nightfall when he’s out exploring new planets. Why is that?
That’s because nighttime on these planets is absolutely teeming with scaaary wild beasts! To avoid an encounter with those creatures, Olimar takes to the safety of space during the night.
So how could we represent this idea in Brawl...?
First things first. Get that Smash Ball! There's Olimar's ship!
Blast off! The ship soars higher and higher into the stratosphere.Stars fill the sky above.
Wild beasts everywhere! Aaaah!
Characters left behind on the ground take lots and lots of damage.
But dishing out damage alone won’t score you points. The more people in the brawl, the more damage you can expect this attack to do, but beware—another opponent may steal the KO you’ve worked so hard to set up.
In a one-on-one match, this Final Smash won’t deal as much damage, but hey, there’s no worry that someone else will steal your KO, either.
I guess you could call this balancing the gameplay, huh?
The ship comes crashing back to the battlefield
with a huge explosion! Maybe, if you’re lucky,
you’ll catch someone in the blast?

New Items
Crates and Barrels - They are now themed to fit the level style: normal, festive or futuristic. There are also rolling crates that slide hazardly, and explosive crates and barrels are marked as such.
Assist Trophy: This item is similar to be Pokéball but instead produces various video game characters. These are not in any way playable characters.
Known Assist trophies:
Hammer Bro
Nintendog
Samurai Goroh
Dr. Wright
Knuckle Joe
Devil
Andross
Lyn
Mr. Resetti
Excitebike
Lakitu
Little Mac
Gray Fox
Saki Amamiya
Stafy
Waluigi
Poké Ball: An all-time favorite item which gives you a random Pokémon ranging from the earliest to latest games.
Known Pokémon:
Groudon
Deoxys
Munchlax
Piplup
Meowth
Bonsly
Known returning Pokémon: Bellossom, Celebi, Chikorita, Electrode, Entei, Goldeen, Ho-Oh, Lugia, Mew, Snorlax, Staryu, Suicune, Togepi, Wobbuffet
Gooey Bomb: The Gooey Bomb acts as a sticky Remote Mine. While stuck to a character, it can be passed back after making contact with another player.
Cracker Launcher: This projectile launcher isn't as racist as it sounds. It shoots out rapid-fire blasts and can be aimed up and down while running.
Banana Peel: Because clichés work. This item doesn't do much other than tripping an opponent.
Bumper: A returning item from the original Super Smash Brothers, this time around it can be placed in midair.
Pitfall: The item comes from Animal Crossing and retains its effect from there. It can trap opponents in the ground or drop them through a platform.
Smoke Ball: This item deals no damage, but rather actually just blinds the player from the screen. It shoots out rainbow-colored gas.
Franklin Badge: Debuting from the Mother Series (Earthbound), it attaches to a player's chest and is basically an automatic reflector.
Spicy Curry: When a Fire Flower just can't suit your flaming needs, eating this will make your player constantly spew out flames.
Golden Hammer: A coat of paint works wonders, this hammer is flung around at crazy speeds and can let you hover. Occassionally it is a worthless squeaky hammer.
Smart Bomb: From the Starfox series, this bomb creates a massive explosion when thrown.
Team Healer: Only appearing in Team Battles, this item has to be picked up and thrown at your teammate to heal him, and can be intercepted.
Dragoon: You must fight to collect all three pieces before winning the one-hit KO of this legendary Air Ride machine.

Series Represented
So far, we've been given a list of series that have been represented, but as we get this list, its come to us out of order. We currently have gaps as shown:
1. Smash Brothers
2. Donkey Kong
3. StarFox
4. Kirby
5. F-Zero
6. Metroid
7. EarthBound/Mother
8. Pokemon
9. Zelda
10. Mario
11. Yoshi
12. Fire Emblem
13. ???
14. Ice Climbers
15. Animal Crossing
16. Wario
17. Metal Gear
18. Kid Icarus
19. ???
20. Sonic the Hedgehog
21. Nintendo DS
22. Pikmin
*22 Is the highest number we're aware of, it in no way indicates that it is the final number
It seems that icons at least require a stage to exist, so just because an icon is out there doesn't nessecarily mean there's going to be a character featuring it.

Here is the tournament list, which is more of a placeholder than anything else. People will have to reconfirm their desire to take part in the tournament when it arrives.

Smash Brothers Community Terminology
This is a very thorough look at advanced Smash terms to help end confusion about them. ChopperDave wrote it and has this to say:
Here is something that could be considered Part 3 of the Smash Bros Terminology. It goes over common misconceptions about tournament players and seeks to help end the SmashBoards versus casual play arguments which always seem to pop up in these threads. Everyone should take a look at these discussions:
-More talk about the competitive community by Chopper Dave
-Joshua368 which stages are banned in tournament play ... and explains why
Flash-based replica Brawl Stage Editor
This is a really cool page designed by mntorankusu, based around the Stage Creator update on the dojo. Here are some instructions and information.
Click here to play it. Here is an example of what you can do.
Customizable signatures that display user names and friend codes.
Here is something that mntorankusu and Geod have been working on, which will allow people to easily put their favorite character and friend code in a fancy signature to help organize things once the game comes out. It allows you to choose your name, character, icon, friend code, and color of character. This is what they look like:
And chances are that the hype for the Japan release will blow this thread away :P
Who made the first one? They should probably have the honours of hosting the US release thread. Wasn't it Xenogears of Bore?
If any more characters are announced, you better believe there'll be another.
This is reference to that episode of Simpsons where Homer voices that new Itchy & Scratchy character, right?
Edit: There are no factors of 22 except 2 and 11 augh
And still down for the tourney.

2008, 2012, 2014 D&D "Rare With No Sauce" League Fantasy Football Champion!
Because I expect it sooner or later.
I was thinking the same thing. Is it possible that during the Final Smash the screen goes split? Hard to imagine Nintendo not anticipating something like that.
2008, 2012, 2014 D&D "Rare With No Sauce" League Fantasy Football Champion!
No, but someone (Fyre, I think) pointed out how it forces everyone into a smaller area, therefore making he Final Smash more useful.
I think because he's one of Rare's more uninspired character designs. There's really nothing special about him..... just a bad Bowser rip-off. In fact, aside from Donkey and Diddy the whole DKC universe that Rare created is pretty bland.
Finally, a voice of reason.
Yes, except I'd like to add Cranky to the list of interesting characters. He certainly had personality, especially if you read the instruction manuals.
The latter.
EDIT: As the story advances, each stage lets you choose between two characters. You play that particular stage with one of them.
Forget that, I'm gonna' hide behind Snake.
or both if you are playing co-op
But my god... the butt... it's huge. It never goes away!
And yay, I can finally take a break from posting the updates. It's been over a month now.
XBL - Foreverender | 3DS FC - 1418 6696 1012 | Steam ID | LoL
It's like he's wearing nothing at all!
I don't know, I thought Dixie was kind of neat. Actually, Donky Kong 2 had a lot of inspired designs, thanks to the fairly consistent pirate theme. But then it plummeted with the damn bears and banana birds. Even K. Rool could still be relatively decent if they focus on his pirate-based attacks. Wait, nevermind, that might not work. I mean, he only used a musket to attack, and I guess that still counts under the "no real guns" rule, wouldn't it? Or is it old enough to get an exception?
Well, he threw huge-ass bullets, musket-whipped people and used it to throw himself around. I guess it could work in Brawl.
