In an odd turn of events, the box art of the DS version of Assassins Creed is the first thing we see on it.
For the juicy details we have to look at the back.
It appears to be a prequel to the Xbox 360/PS3 (and soon to be PC) version of the game. Set in a full 3D world (I was personally expecting a 2D game, props to Ubi for not half-arsing it)
I really can't see how this can turn out well, but if it actually does.. bought'd. I'm getting tired of playing Animal Crossing (Assassin's Crossing comic anyone?), and can't be bothered to go back to any of my more fast-paced DS games.
From the screens shown I'm not sure it's fully 3d. Might be some kind of side scroller where you can move up and down a bit like in a 2d beat'em up.
That's what I would be expecting. Something about "fully 3d-rendered medieval world" sounds misleading, like it's a medieval world rendered in 3d.. but you run sideways and only sideways.

Noting that Gameloft is credited on the box as the developer, this may be running on the same tech that ran the 360 XBLA remake of the original PoP. Which was awesome. The playstyle looks similar from the screens, running on a flat plane through gorgeous environments. Prince of Persia turned out well, much better than I expected from Gameloft, so I have good hopes for this.

SOmetime last year, in the fall I think. I'm not even sure they made an official announcement about the game specifically. All I remember is it showed up on a "upcoming Ubisoft games for 2008" list.
I want this to be good. Unfortunately, there is so little known about it.
I'm kind of bummed it deals with Altair before the standard game. I was hoping it would deal with a different test subject.
Maybe it's actually actually set in the past, not in the fake past that got so many people riled up before it was released.
being one of the former riled up, I'm quite happy with this, assuming that's how it goes. I was hoping that the DS game would be (and really thought I saw a screenshot once of it as) a pure 2d platformer. Like, with a far pulled back camera perspective, similar to Prince of Persia. That way, they could have kept the vertical movement of the home console game in.
Couldn't this game technically have the exact same plot as the Altair sections of AC and still be the story of Altair before the events of the console version?

This is a masterful level of pedantry. I salute you.
The arrow poiting right on the screenshot suggests a choice of moving in more than one direction, and the crowd pickpocketing suggests...a crowd
So I am holding out hope for a decent range of movement, maybe they are emulating the DS version of Ninja Gaiden, but as I don't know exactly how that works either I have no clue.
Will definitely support this and keep an eye on it. Good third party DS (or Nintendo platform) titles are sometimes hard to find so this could be a change in pace. The style of game looks interesting too, like a snapsnot of the full title, and the combat slashing screen is a little reminiscent of Dragon Sword.
it's nice to see some decent 3D being done on the DS. I love good 2D as much as the next sane person, but I can't think of anything of hand that has surpassed anything we saw on the N64.
This looks very interesting. Once again makes me glad I have a DS. But I'll probably buy this after I play through Mario 64 DS. (which I will play after I play Hotel Dusk (which I will play after I play the new Ace Attorney game (which I will play after I play Trials and Tribulations))).
Will I have to tap through the seizure screen and a multicultural warning?

That's because the N64 is more powerful than the DS. The DS is more on the level of the first PlayStation. All games with 3D graphics on the DS remind me of PS1 games, looks wise.

But I like the fake past!
Satans..... hints.....
There's 4 on the back of the box. Also, based on the UI I'd say it's fake past again.
When exactly was it announced for the first time then?

That said, I'm not giving up hope on this one.
They can take away his ability to dodge and catch ledges, they can take away his legs.

But I hope it's cool
And the DS needs some more 3rd party support so I really hope this turns out to be good.
That's actually some decent modeling/texturing on the DS, it doesn't look half bad.
EDIT: This has already been said, oops.
