Latest Nintendo Power has Sonic Chronicles:The Dark Brotherhood for ye olde Nintendo DS. Yes, that Sonic RPG developed by Bioware. Here are some particulars.
Well, it can't be any worse than Sonic 360...or can it?
-Cover Story with nice artwork
-In game graphics have a water color look, all hand drawn
-4 party members at a time
-Each character can do certain things ex: Tails can float over things (standard stuff)
-11 party members total - 8 known are Sonic, Tails, Amy, Knuckles, Amy, Rouge, Shadow, Big the Cat
-Control done fully with stylus - think Hourglass
-Able to split party into teams at certain moments
-Rings are used as currency
-No random battles, see enemies on the field
-Turn based battles, choose commands for everyone in your party before they actually follow through. Want battles to be fast paced
-Elite Beat Agents style special attacks
-Team attacks (like Chrono Trigger)
-"Fatigue Points" instead of MP
-Choose which attributes to increase when you level up
-Purchase and level special attacks
-Bits of story - Sonic's on vacation from defeating Eggman 2 years ago. Gets a call from Tails that Knuckles has been kidnapped by a group called the Marauders, and that 6 chaos emeralds are missing. Eggman not the main villain. But Bioware wants to make him a creditable bad guy again. Something about a "twist" between Eggman and Sonic that goes back to the earlier games.
-2 acts - first takes place in standard Sonic areas. 2nd takes place in a darker world
-Remixed classic tunes
-"fully animated cut scenes"
-simple dialogue trees
-Side quests

Ever since I first heard of this title I thought that someone over at Bioware must have thought "Super Mario RPG/Mario and Luigi/Paper Mario is a great idea, and I really like how they keep attacks fresh. Let's see what franchise we can glom onto and get it done!"

No, Sonic and Shadow are the same character, and depending on how many Hero/Dark points you get you switch between them.
I have absolutely no problems with that.
With the bits from Chrono Trigger and the like it seems like a huge love letter to anyone who liked SNES RPGs. If this is at all good I'm getting it.

Eggman was the Japanese name, and Sega decided to make the names conform.
Because Eggman is his actual name, and Dr. Robotnik is what they named him in the Americanized version. See: Aerith vs. Aeris

Eggman isn't his 'actual' name, it's his Japanese name. But if we're deciding his 'actual' name, Sonic came out in America first. Dr. Robotnik > Eggman
From what I understand, the game came out here first, where he was called Robotnik, then released in Japan, where he was Eggman. So if either name has to be the "real" one, it'd be Robotnik.

Plus his grandfather, as seen in Sonic Adventure 2, is Professor Robotnik, therefore Eggman is most likely a nickname.

I really prefer Dr. Robotnik versus "Eggman".
This looks like a neat little game and only fuels my desire for Chrono Trigger / Super Mario RPG to arrive on the GBA or the DS.
I think that's actually how the story goes. He's Dr. Robotnik, but he looks so much like an egg in his stature that Sonic decided to call him "Eggman". Dr. Robotnik went on to make the mistake of getting extremely upset at that, so now Sonic takes every opportunity to use that name.

This is even more fitting than I initially meant, given Sonic's spotty reputation. FWIW, I completely agree with this:
Sort of a dream hybrid of Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG, which is like blending chocolate and peanut butter. I rather wish that it wasn't Sonic-related at all, but I'll still be interested if the gameplay is solid enough.
