That's what always happens though. You start out just wanting to fix one small thing with the basic UI, but once your eyes are opened to all the awesome things on offer you can't help but go a little nuts with it.

I love it that the UI modding is so flexible though
After playing wow, every other UI seems so rigid and stupid

Yeah, the sheer modability of the WoW UI is a big goddamn selling point to me. If I don't like something I can just replace it! I'm not stuck with whatever the interface designers thought was good for me!

I've been trying to use Grid for both my party and raid frames (consistent interfaces goooo), with IceHUD for the remaining unit frames (me, target, target-of-target, pet, etc). Works great, except for one thing: in a normal five-man party, Grid shows up as expected--but so do the default party frames.

It works correctly in a raid, since I have that option in the Interface settings checked off, but how would I get the default party frames to disappear in a non-raid party? An option in Grid? Or am I gonna need to get another mod?

So I have everything set up mostly the way I want, but one thing that is bothering me is not being able to change the font Fubar uses for the panel. Is there any way to change that?

So, in the space of about a page, you've gone from "all I want is to replace Blizzard's bars with something less ugly" to this.

That was faster than I expected.

    That's all I did do!

What's a good addon for making the buttons look nicer? I don't really want to put a background behind them but they're still the crappy square bricks blizzard made them.

Anyone know a good Ace addon for handling trinkets? Preferably something that hides activateable ones when they're on cooldown and then shows them a couple seconds or so before they're off cooldown.

Is there an option with the grid mana plugin to make it show up on the bottom of the frame? Yours looks much nicer than mine with them thicker and vertical.

I saw a screen, I'm pretty sure it was in this thread, where someone had a very minimalistic UI that had bars that kind of faded out toward the edges, kind of like an eepanel gradient. I can't remember quite what it looked like, I just remember I liked it, but damned if I can find the screen again. I have been through this entire thread a couple of times. Anyone know the one I'm talking about? I think the screen had someone on a nether drake or a wyvern with only sky in the background.

And another question: If I wanted to save a couple different setups of all my addons, like one that was more asthetic and one that was more utilitarian, is there any way I could do that?

Alright, I've got my UI almost set up after returning for a little trial action, but I'm having one major problem. As soon as I mouse over something in my bags, I get an error message. And nothing in my bag will display a tooltip, so I can't see what anything is. Everything I'm wearing, linked, or is in a corpse, etc. is fine, though. Does this sound familiar to anyone or anything? Is there something I should delete or try disabling?

I figured someone would ask, but the error message doesn't point me towards any particular addon as far as I can tell. It says 'general' and something about 'frames' and a .lua file. If it'd help, I'll copy it down next time...

Knowing whatever Bag and Tooltip addons you're using would be helpful. Also, get an addon called Enhanced Error Frame, or Swatter. These will show the full error message in a scrolling window with selectable text.

Right now when I mouse over a mob I get a huge tooltip, especially for bosses and stuff with their health/armor/drops and a bunch of other stuff I don't really need to know. I think it might be mobinfo, but I'm pretty sure thats also where I get the health estimates on mobs from, so is there an alternative for that I could use?

I actually do have that Swatter thing. I think it came combined with something else. Tooltips...using...TinyTip. Bags...using...BagSlots. I think that's it. I can copy/paste the message the next time I have a few minutes to get on, if it'll help. It didn't give me any hints.

In my X-perl raid frames, it shows a lot of buffs that I don't cast. I think that the UnitBuff function is broken on WoW's end. Does anyone know of a workaround or code that I could add that will fix it? It really messes things up while trying to heal since it makes the bars a lot smaller.

I guess it's been a while since I posted a screenshot of my UI. It's basically the same as it's been for at least a year, because I like it and it never breaks because it's all either the default UI or my own code. The only exception is ImprovedErrorFrame, which I'm really very fond of and haven't bothered rewriting since it's already pretty efficient.
    duo_Mech.jpg

Also present in this screenshot is what happens when a Shaman tries to stealth around Mechanar.

    Not shown:
    - Casting bar: This is just above the chat frames, basically sitting on top of them, in the center.
    - Cooldown buttons from NicheCooldowns: These are just below the trinket buttons, in a 4x3 grid.
    - Pet bar or stance/shapeshift/aura bar: It goes where the totem bar is in that screenshot. Overlapping isn't usually a problem, since none of the classes which have one of those bars have a pet at normal times, and there are very few quests which give you a pet.

Visually and with respect to basic functionality (unit frames, action buttons, minimap, etcetera), this is just the default UI with just a few things rescaled or rearranged. There are only three additional information displays that I have over the default UI: the party buffs, the tiny class icons by the party frames and target frame (which should probably be disabled since I never use them), and target's target in the tooltip. The target's target display above the target frame is just an extremely condensed version of Blizzard's display for it, so I actually have less information there, but I've never felt that I needed to see the buffs and debuffs of my target's target. Besides, at my resolution, I don't have room for a full target's target frame, or even a focus frame.

Here are the addons I have in my AddOns folder (all mine unless noted otherwise), courtesy "dir /w":
[!!NichePersonal] - Not public. These are my personal tweaks that I haven't yet written real addons for, and my development tools.
[!ChatHistory] - Disabled pending a rewrite. It handles selective chat logging and the number of history lines in chat frames.
[!ImprovedErrorFrame] - Catches errors. This was written for and is distributed with Cosmos, but runs standalone.
[+Wowhead_Looter] - Disabled. Too inefficient to run. This is Wowhead's client logger that sniffs for information as you play.
[ArenaCalculator] - Calculates arena points based on rating. Disabled since I never use it.
[ArenaCalculator_Loader] - Loader stub for the above.
[AuctionScanButton] - Not released. Adds a button to the auction house that, when clicked, scans it with your currently selected settings. I don't know how fast Auctioneer's scanner goes nowadays, but this goes at about one page per 1.1 seconds.
[AutoMountEquip] - Not released. I don't think I've released an updated version. Automatically equips mounted movement speed enhancing items when you mount or enter flight form, and restores previous equipment afterward.
[BagRename] - Not released. Disabled since I don't use it. Lets you rename your bags.
[BagSlotCounter] - Not released. Disabled since I don't need it. Creates text overlays on top of your bag icons, displaying how many slots are left.
[BigBankStatement] - Not released. Keeps track of bank contents for all characters and lets you browse through the stored data from any character. Also remembers money.
[ChannelLinks] - Not released. Converts chat links (for items and tradeskills) back and forth between a special format that allows you and other users of the addon to link things in custom channels.
[CustomChatTimestamps] - Not released. Lets you adds customized timestamps to chat messages.
[CustomClock] - Not released. Creates a mobile, customizable clock.
[CustomNames] - Not released. Not finished. Lets you customize your name, such that other users of the addon see that name instead of what you chose at creation.
[DynamicUI] - Not released. Not finished. Lets you customize every object in the UI, forcing it be shown or hidden, resizing it, moving it, etcetera.
[EfficientSlashScript] - Caches the contents of "/script" lines in macros, significantly speeding them up.
[FishingButton] - Not released. A small mobile button that tracks number of casts and number of catches when fishing, and can be clicked to cast a line.
[FocusCast] - Not released. Not finished, but functional. Alters registered action buttons to force them to cast their respective spells on the focus if the spell is not castable on the current target.
[GammaVision] - Not released. Lets you bind a key to toggle between normal gamma and maximum gamma, effectively providing selective night-vision.
[InspectKey] - Not released. Lets you bind a key to toggle the inspect frame, since this keybinding is conspicuously absent from the default UI.
[Inspectre] - Not released. Lets you open the inspect window from any visible distance, and caches its contents so you can keep viewing them even if you lose your target.
[ItemDB_BasicInfo1_Sharing] - Not released. Data sharing module for ItemDB_BasicInfo1 library.
[ItemDB_Links1_Sharing] - Not released. Data sharing module for ItemDB_Links1 library.
[Lib-AuctionScanner1] - Not released. Library to scan the auction house.
[Lib-CommonParsingTooltip1] - Not released. Library to provide a shared tooltip that can be used by addons to parse information.
[Lib-ConfigManager1] - Not released. Not finished. Library to handle set/get configuration operations for addons.
[Lib-DataSharing1] - Not released. Library to share arbitrary text-based data via hidden chat channels.
[Lib-DataSharing1_SavedVariables] - Not released. Saved variables stub for the above.
[Lib-DelaysManager2] - Not released. Library to handle timed delays.
[Lib-EventsManager1] - Not released. Library to handle management of an event-based architecture.
[Lib-ItemDB_BasicInfo1] - Not released. Library that monitors and stores basic item information, like equip level, type, subtype, equip location, etcetera.
[Lib-ItemDB_BasicInfo1_SavedVariables] - Not released. Saved variables stub for the above.
[Lib-ItemDB_Links1] - Not released. Library that monitors and stores just enough information to recreate item links.
[Lib-ItemDB_Links1_SavedVariables] - Not released. Saved variables stub for the above.
[Lib-ItemDB_VendorPrices1] - Not released. Library that stores and monitors vendor prices.
[Lib-ItemDB_VendorPrices1_SavedVariables] - Not released. Saved variables stub for the above.
[Lib-ItemLinksMonitor1] - Not released. Library that monitors all potential sources for item links and reports them to client addons for parsing.
[Lib-SimpleSlash1] - Not released. Library to provide a unified and simple architecture for slash commands.
[Lib-TableSearch1] - Not released. Library to perform extremely advanced searches of Lua tables, primarily to search databases.
[Lib-TooltipItemQuantities1] - Not released. Library which caches the quantity of a given item to which a tooltip has been set.
[Lib-TradeskillDB_Links1] - Not released. Library that monitors and stores just enough information to recreate tradeskill links.
[Lib-TradeskillDB_Links1_SavedVariables] - Not released. Saved variables stub for the above.
[Lib-TradeskillLinksMonitor1] - Not released. Library that monitors all potential sources for tradeskill links and reports them to client addons for parsing.
[LinkBot] - Automatically replies to specially formatted chat requests for links.
[LinkBot_ItemDB_Links1] - Adds support for item links to LinkBot, using ItemDB_Links1 library.
[LinkBot_TradeskillDB_Links1] - Adds support for tradeskill links to LinkBot, using TradeskillDB_Links1 library.
[LinksList] - Graphical interface for viewing and searching links databases.
[LinksList_ItemDB_BasicInfo1] - Adds extra information to the item links section of LinksList, using ItemDB_BasicInfo1 library.
[LinksList_ItemDB_Links1] - Adds support for item links to LinksList, using ItemDB_Links1 library.
[LinksList_TradeskillDB_Links1] - Adds support for tradeskill links to LinksList, using TradeskillDB_Links library.
[MapReveal] - Reveals all portions of the map.
[MousewheelChat] - Not released. Lets you scroll the chat windows with the mousewheel. This might actually be in the default UI by now, I don't know.
[NicheBuffs] - Not released. Disabled pending rewrite. Lets you relocate the buffs/debuffs and change the format of their numerical displays.
[NicheClassIcons] - Not released. Creates class icons for all four party member frames and the target frame.
[NicheCooldowns] - Not released. Not finished, but functional. Creates mobile buttons that display abilities with cooldowns as you use them. Styled after Saien's CooldownHud, from days of old.
[NicheFrames] - Not released. Very, very specific and non-customizable changes to the default UI's unit frames to add more information to them and add a target-of-target frame.
[NicheLoot] - Not released. Moves the loot frame under your mouse as you loot things. Works differently than the default UI's implementation somehow, but I forgot how.
[NicheMainBar] - Not released. Very, very specific and non-customizable changes to the action bars and mainbar, to shrink it all, remove superficial art, and make MultiBarBottomLeft change pages with the primary action bar.
[NicheTooltips] - Not released. Changes the GameTooltip's colors to match those that were used prior to 1.4, lets the tooltip be relocated, and adds target-of-target's name to the tooltip.
[QuestLevels] - Not released. Adds quest level prefixes to the quest log and QuestWatchFrame.
[QuickChatlink] - Allows you to type link text in the chat frame edit box and have it be converted to real links.
[QuickChatlink_ItemDB_Links1] - Adds support for item links to QuickChatlink, using ItemDB_Links1 library.
[QuickChatlink_TradeskillDB_Links1] - Adds support for tradeskill links to QuickChatlink, using TradeskillDB_Links1 library.
[ScreenshotMultiFormat] - Not released. Not finished. Provides additional screenshot keybindings, to take screenshots using custom pre-defined settings (high or low quality, tga or jpg, UI hidden, etcetera).
[Segui] - Lets you configure chat messages to be sent automatically in response to any action, including all usable abilities and incoming chat or combat messages.
[Segui_Config] - Configuration UI for the above. Loaded separately because it takes a lot of memory and isn't needed often.
[SimpleCoordinates] - Not released. Provides a very simplified coordinate interpretation system that you can use to place a dot on the world map, representing the input coordinates.
[SimpleDruidBar] - Not released. Provides a mana bar to display a Druid's mana when in Cat or Bear form. Simplified, more accurate version of DruidBar.
[SlashLanguage] - Not released. Lets you speak in your secondary language, if you have one, by prefixing your message with the slash command "/lan".
[SmoothHealthColor] - Not released. Forces all default UI health bars to slide smoothly from green when full to red when empty, instead of being green all the time.
[TalentConfirm] - Not released. Provides a simple popup confirmation dialog when spending talent points.
[TotemTimers] - Not released. Creates a mobile rectangular frame and four sub-frames to track each totem element.
[TradeskillDB_Links1_Sharing] - Not released. Data sharing module for TradeskillDB_Links1 library.
[TrinketButtons] - Not released. Creates two mobile action buttons that correspond to the two trinket slots, show a numerical cooldown, and can be right-clicked to bring up a list of other trinkets in your bags.
[VendorValues] - Shows vendor prices in tooltips, using the ItemDB_VendorPrices1 library.
[WarsongFlags] - Not released. Shows the name of the flag carrier for each side in Warsong Gulch, presented as a clickable button next to the respective flag icon.

I have much work to do. Currently I am finishing ConfigManager1, and using that I can finish FocusCast. After that I was planning on rewriting BigBankStatement, but I fear 2.4 is too close for me to spend time on anything but polishing version 1.1 of LinksList and creating the two new libraries that will monitor and store chat link information for the new link types (quests and talents).

    Warrior macro question here.

I'm trying to figure out a way to have my main action bar switch to a different one when I switch stances. I've tried searching around for this but I guess I'm using the wrong terminology or something. An example would be what happens to the first action bar when you go into stealth on a Rogue or Druid or switch forms on a Druid.

Basically I'm looking for the command that will switch the action bar so I can make a macro with that and "/cast X Stance" for those keys I already use.

    Thanks.

I wish it did. Perhaps I'm circumventing it by using Bartender3.

edit: Yeah..Bartender was mucking it up. I did some digging in the options and I found a paging function for the stances which does exactly what I described.

    Thanks.

I'm confused. Doesn't the default UI already do this?

I wish it did. Perhaps I'm circumventing it by using Bartender3.

Oh, yeah. You need to set up stances manually in Bartender.

edit: damn your edit making my edit redundant *shakes fist*

Sometimes you have to relog with bartender to get the stances to work for every page (always seems to be page 2 for me) but apart from that it's cool.
