ICS + LAN

I've posted a few similar problems, now I'm hoping to solve them one at a time so I can see what I need to do.

My setup:

Router downstairs connected
Laptop Upstairs, wireless connection to router

I'm trying to get my laptop to use Internet Connection Sharing in order to get my Xbox 360 online via an ethernet cable. The problems are:

- Clicking the tickbox for ICS (In wireless connection > properties > advanced) produces an error, and disconnects my wireless
- 3 other people in the house also connect to the router
- I cannot move the router, nor configure anyone else's machine

Why won't my laptop run ICS? The error was something about IP adresses; I can't reproduce the error because doing so kills my connection and I have to reset the router and the other people in the house would prefer if I didn't.

Second problem, is my LAN. I have the 360 plugged into my PC using the cable it came with, but the LAN has 'limited or no connectivity'. Is this normal? One day I managed to play some music on the 360 off the Laptop's harddrive, today it won't. I'm confused.
