The production of a Zombie Cowboy Co-Op FPS mod is now bein' undertaken on its own forums!
Hey guys
We're all up on the IRC and more importantly the other forum, with a design doc 'n' shit.
the other forum
If any of you want to get in on IRC: GameSurge.net server, #PA_MOD channel.
It should be noted that this OP is well out of date, if you're interested you should check the more recent pages, and the other forum (see above)What is the game?
FPS. Co-op. Two groups: Survivors and Rescuers. The two survivors are holed up somewhere in a city or town infested with zombies. They have only pistols to defend themselves and each other, and must cooperate in order to stay alive long enough to meet the better-armed Rescuers when they arrive from out of town in their truck to, yes, rescue the Survivors. When they get there, the truck runs out of fuel (or, depending on the map, another similar scenario) and the Rescuers and Survivors team up to get to a gas station to bring back the fuel (or crucial object).
The man carrying the fuel is therefore unable to wield a weapon and needs to be protected from the zombies. If things get desperate, he can throw the fuel at the zombies in order to light those fuckers up, but of course that necessitates a trip back to the gas station.
The rescuers and the survivors then make off in the truck, with the round ending once they’re outside city/town limits.
While the Survivors are waiting, they have three tasks to accomplish in the city in any order:
• Recover the backpack full of essential supplies (bandages water etc)
• Recover the generator (bitches are going to need electricity out there)
•
Recover the moonshine.
Once they have teamed up with the rescuers, assuming they haven’t already completed these tasks, they become everybody’s responsibility, but also become easier to complete because of the truck.
On the way to rescue the Survivors, the Rescuers can stop by a gunshop, which they can then loot. The back of the truck then becomes kind of an infinite guns ‘n’ ammo dock, up to which any player can saunter and stock up on weapons and ammunition. Once the moonshine has been picked up, the truck gains the ability to increase health gradually according to the player’s proximity to it.
The two groups have no contact with one another until they meet up. No two players can communicate without being within earshot (see sound section). Survivors respawn nigh-randomly in the map unless they’ve been rescued, and Rescuers respawn at the truck. They will frequently have to ditch the truck, however, because of obstructions: it won’t be possible to get the truck close to the gas station, for instance, or any of the other buildings they need to enter.
There should be occasions when the Survivors and the Rescuers can see each other, but not get to each other. It should not be easy either to rescue or be rescued: though both teams have the same abilities, they should play very differently.
Where and when does the game take place?
The game takes place in 1935, partially in cities and towns, partially in the desert surrounding those cities and towns. We’ve chosen this setting due to the inherent style of the period, including the cars and the music, and because it’s probably the most plausible era to set a game that heavily features both cowboys and cars. The style is likely to start out realistic for ease of development, but may end up having a style somewhere closer to Teamfortress 2 cartooniness.
What do I control?
You control a cowboy, one of a group. You may also be called upon to drive the car.
Sound Design
Sound should eventually play a pretty huge part – there is no communication between players, except through proximity chat – if a player is near enough to any other player, they’ll be able to hear each other. Voice communication is preferable here. Zombies, however, are also attracted to sound, especially gunshots and the sound of the truck’s engine. Zombies will always be attracted to the car when it’s being driven, it can therefore be used as a decoy assuming a player goes along with it.
There should be two buttons for voice-communication: the standard, for talking, and a “yell†button which is essentially the same thing only makes it far louder, both to other players and the zombie hordes. A “whisper†button also.

A mod for Source, that is!
Source can do
lotsa neat things.
The SDK provided with any of Valve's Source games is dynamic enough to do nigh-anything with, from an FPS, to a point-and-click adventure, RPG or even an
RTS!
I thought it would be cool to have a thread where we discuss mod ideas, and possibly end up makin' something. I do not doubt that there're some talented folk around here, and some great ideas. Some kind of rockin' G&T community mod could result, even. If people are interested, I'd love them to post whatever ideas and leet skills they have.
Me, I make maps, textures, and as of recently even prop models, though I'm not quite awesome at the latter just yet. If you are interested in checkin' out a video of the place in the lower-right, it is
here or, if you're more a youtube kind of a guy,
it's there too.

No Country For Old Men style mod. Violent Western.
That said, online co-op is what the gaming community needs more of, and not just against each other on teams. I mean full scale team vs npc's that are hard as nails.

This is the last post I'm making before I upgrade my PC, so I'm hoping to bask in many awesome HL2 mods.

This would be awesome. :^:
Macro go watch No Country and then we'll talk.
Both would be good choices. ;-)

raaaaw.
I have seen it, and I know it to be great.
Group forms 6-10.
Progress 11
Silence, others asking for progress 12+
This is pretty much the rule with all PA projects :P
I like the idea of co-op stuff, I love playing with my friends in a way that doesn't involve blowing them to bits (on purpose).
I like this. Sort of reminds me of cs_assault, but could obviously become much more.
There's a level where you rob a bank, which is what I took inspiration from. :P But movies about robbing banks are awesome. If someone said, "Dude, we have a van, some ski masks and a lot of guns, want to rob a bank?" I'd totally do it.
COMMENCE CO-OP MOD BRAINSTORMING
They'd be NPCs in the bank. the robbers could either kill 'em or take 'em hostage. They make good meat shields because the cops either auto-lose or get severely pentaly'd somehow for killing one, but at the same time, they lower your mobility, since letting them escape would be a penalty for the robbers.
But yeah I'd imagine that that'd be pretty damn ambitious.
I'm a decent idea guy, but when it comes to actually, you know, doing work, I'm pretty worthless. Still, since this thread's current purpose is just good ol' shit-shooting, it's right in my area of expertise.

Nothing could be built other than something like a barracks that would just give you some foot soldiers, without first capturing points/territory and killing enemies. I have no idea if a game/mod like this exist, but I would love to play one.

And Anton Chigurh comes and fucks them all up.
some ex's
western bullshit:
edit: As for story I think a McCarthy inspired game would be fucking amazing. Start it off like pre dawn in the desert and you're looking at the remains of a gunfight or whatever, you know what I mean.
you should definitely concept art us
just because i want to show i'm not entirely retarded when it comes to modeling:
this is without textures, so thats why it looks goofy.
this is a big old temple that i made, half of it was in unreal, the other half was 3ds max, same with the tower to the left, i modeled the top of it
and who doesnt love a bar scene(i made this as one of the first things i've ever done in 3ds max, dont be harsh)
is it just me or does that sound like the most awesome thing there's ever been
Also gazelle.
Your name has been added to the OP!
Alright. Sounds good.
Lets get some more plans:
Co-op for up to 6 people.
Revolvers.
Lots of Revolvers.
Uh.
Cool music ideas?
Each team has a special skill. Zombies can only be killed with headshots but are slow. Robots need to periodically recharge but are powerful. Humans are somewhere in between.
