Can't share media with my Xbox 360, it's complicated.

I'm using XPsp2, a fairly fresh install.

I'm trying to set up media sharing with my Xbox 360 and there's a problem. I need the wmpnetwk service, but behold:

wmpinvalid.jpg

So....

This also applies to a few of the .exe files in the WMP directory, such as wmpenc.exe.

The only time I've seen a similar problem is when the registry gets jacked by some trojan or other, but on those cases it applies to all .exe files and not just a specific one.

I've un- and reinstalled WMP11 a few times trying to pin down the problem but every try just yields the same results, so I'm going to stop until I get some more ideas.

I know the installer is good, I've tried downloading it twice. I know my disk is clean, I chkdsk regularly. I know my operating system is not fubar, I use it 12 hours a day and nothing is broken. But SOMETHING is busted, otherwise this wouldn't be happening.

Any ideas about what to do in this situation?

I'm only going to bump it once.

Is there another way to share media that doesn't require WMP11? I tried TVersity and it needs that service.

Have you tried contacting MS tech support?

You can use the zune software, it's what I use seeing as it supports more music formats. I use WMP11 for video and the Zune Software for music (seeing as the Zune software doesn't support AVI). They show up separately in the list and the zune selection has the logo so they are easy to tell apart.
