Started my computer this morning and it started making a screeching/crunching noise comming my cpu fan. The fan is still turning but I have a error message saying the fan speed is too low. I am not a uber-computer guy and want to know how hard it will be to swap out the fan. I have an athalon 64 3200+ and a nforce motherboard.

It really depends, sometimes replacing the CPU fan is as easy as unscrewing it (4 screws, usually) from the heatsink and unplugging a single 3pin/wire connector, then installing a new one the same thickness and diameter.
Other times, the heatsink and fan are only replaceable as one big component, which is slightly more difficult, often requiring unloading tension spring bars, removing the entire assembly, cleaning off the old thermal medium, applying new thermal medium properly to the new heatsink/fan, placing the new heatsink, reinstalling the tension spring bars, and reconnecting the fan wiring.
I picture of the heatsink/fan/cpu area of your motherboard would help us tell you specifically what you need, if you can swing it.
