In the mood for card battler

I became thorougly addicted to creating the perfect deck of cards in Metal Gear Acid and used to spend countless hours playing Yu-gi-oh on the GBA. I'm trying to hunt down Metal Gear Acid 2 at my local game stores, but I'd also like some reccomendations of good trading card games on recent systems. Games I'v noticed and am curious about

Yu-Gi-oh Tag force/2 (PSP) - I used to play the origonal, vanilla game on the GBA and would just like simple one on one games like with that game. I'm not sure about all this tagging buisness and am not interested in the game because I can play against or with big haired shouty anime protagonist number 14 as the box states. I just like the card game and would be happy with regular one on one battles but wouldn't be opposed to tag battles if they are good fun. Also, any other decent Yugi games on other consoles that could be reccomended would be great.

Marvel Trading card game (PSP) - Marvel superheroes beating the stats out of each other. Sounds promising but I'v no idea how the game works

Any other GBA, DS, PSP, PS1, PS2 or 360 (marketplace maybe) reccomendations would be great too. Especially if they are not too hard to find either. I'd just prefer a reccomendation I can pick up at any nearby games store, not trawl about on Ebay for or oder online, thanks.

This isn't really what you asked for, but I remember the old Magic the Gathering PC game Shandalar being pretty awesome.

I've actually been looking for something like this myself.

As much as I hate Yu-Gi-Oh, I did play the GBA SP version and thought it was fun. However, I would like to see what else there is on the current market.

I've tried to pin point that Magic PC game but I can't find any popular site that lists it under video games. I just find comics and cards. :|

Wikipedia knows all. It's a pretty fun game, rather dated (the only expansion added some cards up through Antiquity).

Any good DS card games? I've seen Marvel VS. on sale but haven't heard anything about it.

Culdcept Saga for 360 coming out soon? Is that a card thing? I am a huge fan of CCG and CCG video games, but I can't think of anything at the moment.

    Also, Phantom Dust (OXBOX)

Culdcept Saga sounds like exactly what you're looking for. Should be out in North America on 360 sometime in the next month.

There's always MTG online which has no monthly fee. You just have to pay for your decks and then you can use em as much as you want. Seemed pretty popular when I played it for like 2 days :).

Then again, I think that Magic is the only enjoyable TCG out of any. /flameon

The Marvel trading card game has probably the most rewarding gameplay system of a card game that I have played. I am not sure about the implementation as I have played only the paper version, but it's system is incredibly deep, pretty balanced and not overly complex. And I am not sure but I believe the PSP version even has or had online play but it is a "buy digital packs" thing but the single player mode is free.

Yeah the Magic: TCG online didn't suit me. I played it when it was in beta and did the free thing. I have Magic cards and they seem to be worth 10 times more digitally/online than they are now if I sold my sets on eBay. Hrm...so the previous Magic game on Win 95 is abandonware? o_O

I read up on Culdcept Saga and it sounds great. I will grab the demo from LIVE later today. :D

I remember the Pokemon Card Game for the GBC being really really really really really awesome when I was eight. I believe that there were a few YGO! card games for the PS2, if you were interested in another one.

Lost Kingdom 1 was really the only saving graces for my Game Cube, aside from SSB. It's was a rather odd way to make a card battler IMO, but is was fun. It's not worth buying a GC for, though(Actually, I saw a used one at EB for like $20).

I know there are others... but I can't think of them.

Hmm, I was about to recommend the Lost Kingdoms games, but that doesn't seem to fit your criteria.

    I'll will do some research.

You're missing out on a really good, really recent one... Eye of Judgment. It requires a PS3 however.

That Pokemon trading card game on the GBA is supposedly really good, isn't it?

How about Phantasy Star Online 3? You know, the one with the card battles instead of normal combat? Not sure if anyone plays this game anymore though.

No Gamecube hm? I'd have recommended you Baten Kaitos 1 & 2 (and I think there's even a third JRPG with card battles on the system), although those might not exactly be what you are looking for.

But your best bet is probably MTG - by far the best card game that I know.

If you liked the yugioh card game but don't want any story i recommend getting one of the world championship games for the DS, they are pretty much only about the TCG.
Be warned though they can be a bit hard if you don't know what you are doing.

All my recommendations come on little GameCube discs. Baten Kaitos and its prequel, or either Lost Kingdoms game.

Another vote for Culdcept Saga, there was also a PS2 version but it's getting hard to find and doesn't have online play. (It does have hilarious 2d sprites instead of dumb 3d models for all the monsters and characters though.)

I'm afraid not. Sorry, I meant the GBC game :)

I spent more time playing the card game in Xenosaga Ep. I than I did the rest of the story.
