My only real, urgent hope is that decapitating another immortal isn't just an animation once you've depleted their lifebar. I really, really hope the finishing blow is fluid and controlled by you.

Just to put my two cents in, there was also a Highlander animated series (not the anime, ugh) that focused on Quinten MacLeod, so the idea of continuing the storyline through various MacLeods is kinda traditional. That and it would be kinda hard to call it "Highlander" if it focused on anyone but the Scottish.
What I find interesting is how the fuck did they cast Sean Connery as Ramirez? I mean, he was great no doubt, but when you need to fill an Egyptian living as a Spaniard what would make you think to go to a Scott who's used to playing Englishmen. Identity crisis.
I'm optimistic. I loved the series and even Highlander: Endgame. Did anyone else see that in theaters? If you did, good for you. In that one week that it was playing was the only time that you could see a version that doesn't suck. The DVD edit fucked it up so far beyond recognition that you'd swear it was an Ed Wood. Or an Uve Boll.
When I heard about this game I looked up Highlander on the net and discovered that somehow, even though I used to be a rabid fan, and am very much in tune with weird shit from the internet, somehow there was another Highlander movie that I had never heard of. It stars the tv cast even! I'm curious if the merging of a Highlander sequel and a Sci-fi original movie (both things that tend to be awful) will cancel each other out or create a perfect storm of awfulness.
I have to find out. Pray for me.
Oh god no... don't do it.
I watched that steaming pile of shit because I'd seen all the other movies (I don't know why, after the first they were universally awful). But... yeah.
The Sci-Fi original movie was in a realm all its own. I'd prefer to watch the theatrical version of Highlander 2: The Quickening than that. As an example of how bad this movie is, the evil Guardian wears an awesome collar around his neck that prevents his head from getting cut off. In later scenes he's not wearing it, and they never explain why. He's also just a big spaz and not scary or intimidating at all without his Wizard of Speed and Time-style FX.
ONOES SPOILER
The big prophesised end-of-all-Highlanders prize that Duncan got (and that nobody had ever heard about before in all previous Highlander shows) was the ability to father a baby with his Magic Ex-Wife. He won by being more human than the bad guy. Not really because he made any humanlike decision that happened to save the day, the test was just to see how "human" he claimed to be. Fuck me.
More depressing spoiler:
Joe Dawson dies. Fuckers.
The sad thing is, I'm sure that they'll come up with more terrible movies that ignore the apocalypse they had in this one.

Thing is, that's often how it happened in the tv series. Two immortals duel it out for 5 to 10 minutes and eventually one of them gets cut up and stabbed enough so that he's basically helpless on his knees in which case the 'winner' does his finishing move. Still would be awesome to control said move, but it was very rare for them to pull off a decapitation during the heat of battle. Maybe as a super-special hard-to-do move or something.
Edit: Oh, and the over-use of MacLeod bothers me not at all. The name has become synominous (sp?) with 'good guy immortal' plus it's fun to say.
Maybe it will be like hell mode from Diablo 2 where you loose your character if you die? This could make for an interesting MMO dynamic but I think it would die out quickly.
There were a few in the series, but they were very rare. The show was pretty male-centric. There was a spinoff show, Highlander: The Raven about a female immortal that didn't really go anywhere.

Yeah, I'm thinking of the movie (the one before the most recent, I think) where there's a move that's allegedly impossible to escape, and at the end, well...
rules are meant to be broken.
I think it should be something like a fatality in Mortal Kombat, but they can fight back even during the 'finish him' sequence; essentially, the killing move isn't a single button press (maybe an asymmetrical twist of the two analog sticks on the 360), and you can only deliver it once the guy's in his weakened state. You have maybe 10 seconds to do this before he resumes immortal mode or whatever.
Ah well, I dream.

See that's all stuff I considered when I designed my Highlander fighting game. Large open areas (think Bushido Blade 2) and a stamina bar instead of a life bar. Getting hit reduces stamina which makes your attacks and character slower and more sluggish, leaving you open for a beheading.
If any of you guys want some more info on this, I'm sure I still have all the details somewhere (it was for a class project).

what if you get decapimatated?

I guess to make this game better, the devs need to track down every disc of that game and break them.

Even more fun if you say "...of the Clan MacLeod" afterwards, too.
Oh Lord Yes! This thread has been worth it if only to bring back so many fun memories of past Highlander TV series episodes.

Were there any female immortals?
Will there be multiplayer?
