If you don't know what the title means, you will not be interested by this thread.
It's J.J. Abrams's muthafuckin'
The first teaser trailer will premier along with Cloverfield tomorrow.
I'm trying my best to not get my trekkie hopes up too hight, but I am admittedly excited about this project.
In case you've been living under some kind of rock for the past year, they're making a new Star Trek movie about the original crew. It's gonna be an early adventure...when the crew is younger than we know them from their five-year mission to explore new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.
These are the folks lined up to play the classic crew:
Zoe Saldana as Lt. Uhura. You may know Zoe as "that new chick who's playing Uhura" or "that chick who slapped Captain Sparrow in the first Pirates movie" Hailing from The United States of Africa, Lt. Uhura is the Chief Communications Officer on the bridge of the Enterprise. She's always got that big thing in her ear and can speak Swahili.
Anton Yelchin as Ensign Pavel Chekov. Anton is a genuine Ruski (Антон Викторович Ельчин is his name in commie-speak). You may know him as the kidnapped kid from Alpha Dog, where he probably made smooches with J-Tim behind the scenes. Chekov was the navigator up front of the ship, and sometimes looked into Spock's sciency view-master thingy when ol' green blood wasn't around. Has a penchant for saying "wessel".
Now on to some faces you may actually recgonize
John Cho as Lt. Hiraku Sulu. John is best known as Harold of "and Kumar" fame. Some people are upset because he's Korean and Sulu is Japanese, but fuck them. Sulu was the sensually-deep-voiced guy who sat up front with Chekov and drove the ship. He is quite fond of fencing and is known to go shirtless when brandishing his sword.
Simon Pegg as Lt. Commander Montgomery "Scotty" Scott. You know this guy. He's silly British bloke from Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. We'll see if he can do a Scottish accent well. Scotty is the Chief Engineer of the starship Enterprise. Known for pulling off miracles with the engines, transporters, weapons, you name it, despite constant insistence that he can't change the laws of physics. Hey, look at Scotty's shirt. Yeah, he's got red on him.
And the big three:
Karl Urban as Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy. This dude has done lots of things here an there, including Éomer from Lord of the Rings, and Julius Caeser from from Xena. I think he looks quite a bit like McCoy. And speaking of the cranky old doc, Bones was the angry and probably racist guy down in sick bay who didn't like to have his profession confused.
Zachary Quinto as Spock. He's Sylar from Heroes, and that's pretty much it. Has reportedly dived into the role like crazy, making BFFs with Leonard Nimoy and having dinner at his house and stuff. Spock is the half-human, half-Vulcan first officer of the ship. Known for being logical and also trying to kill people when he's horny.
Chris Pine as Captain James Tiberius Kirk. He's been in Smokin' Aces and The Princess Diaries 2. Whatever. It's Captain Kirk. The man, the pimp, the legend. Humpin' and shootin' his way across the galaxy since 2233. Cheated to pass an unpassable test and got fucking
commended for it. Here's a wacky image macro just in case this thread hasn't pissed off Dyna enough already:
Oh, and lest I forget:
Leonard Nimoy as old-as-dirt's-grandpappy Spock. The original Pointy Eared Wonder is back, to reprise his role as the Spock we know and love. He's from the future and is going to the past to tell a younger version of himself something. Who knows what and who cares, it's Leonard Nimoy.
Details about the film are sketchy at this point. Simon Pegg has been quoted saying the script is "very hush-hush; when I read it, I read it with a security guard near me - it's that secretive." It's not clear if it's a re-imagining, a reboot, or whatever. Indications point that it will play close attention to established canon. Some sites (read: the douchebags at AICN) have claimed to have seen the script and talk about things like Area 51 and stuff. Writer Roberto Orci has flat out denied that any of the details that they got are true.
We know there's time travel but we don't know how. Early speculations of The Guardian of Forever seem to be false. Leonard Nimoy has also mentioned that there will be a third Spock in there somewhere, but did not go into any details.
It'll probably be at the academy and how the crew came together for the first time. They say we may even see how Kirk defeated the Kobayashi Maru.
The exterior of the ship will reportedly stay largely the same, but the inside may get a make over. And actors have been wearing ponchos on the set when walking from trailers so sneaky paparazzi can't get a snap of what the uniforms look like.
A couple of other actor bits: Ben Cross and Winona Ryder will be Spock's Vulcan father and human mother. Eric Bana will be a bad guy named Nero who is probably Romulan.
Oh, and there will be a Tribble in it somewhere.

@hoodiethirteen
so thats something. I guess. Or not. Whatever.
EDIT: Apparently it's Bruce Greenwood.
It bothers me that apparently no one can come up with a new, original, good Star Trek story that fits within the universe, and so they have to resort to nostalgia and going "hey look it's the original crew you like the original crew right please give us money"
But some people think it might actually be good? I just don't know
