We are all aware of Second Life. It really isn't much of a Second Life because the control scheme is horrible.
However, Entropia has been around for a little bit I take it, but I don't see much of it mentioned. I've been looking at the videos and screenshots and shit and it doesn't seem that bad. It appears there is a game hidden in there with the sandbox-type theme.
Can someone verify this shit for me? Is it just a Second Life clone, or is there something to this that might actually make it worth signing up for? I'm always interested in the aspects of Sandbox games. Especially ones that tickle their furry little balls over real life economy and banking.
Their business plan seems to consist of "people want to give us money to fiddle around in our sandbox". I've never met anyone who played/visited, though.
I think I read something about this a while back. The only way to get equipment that isn't worth shit is by paying for it. This might seem logical, as a business model, but from a gameplay perspective it means that it will be designed such that it will annoy and stack itself against you in order to make you pay for it.
'Keeping up with your friends' means 'paying as much as them' instead of 'playing as much as them'. I positively hate the idea of a world (real or virtual) where your worth is purely decided by your bankroll.
My brother tried this game out as an experiment. Long story short, the cost of firing a gun is higher than the value of loot you get per mob. It looks poor, plays poor, and is basically a giant slot machine (even advertising big loot drops in zone chat), although I think your odds are better in Atlantic City or Vegas. It is also very hard to make money playing because they tax/tariff the heck out of your earnings when you go to cash out.
