Hello! I basically figured that people here have a greater explanation and cooperation then xbox itself due to them hiring many people who dont understand english... ANYWAYS!

I have a fairly stable connection, and by fairly, I mean pretty good, But for some reason when I play halo on the internet I keep getting kicked out of matches when it hwas about 7 or more people. But my friend seems to get into those games just fine. Any reason why?

Pretty painful when you like to play team matches and get kicked out of 90% of them.. For some reason it SOMETIMES works but when it dosn't everyones icon dissapears except mine and the game starts anyways, Then it sais "game over, SLAYERRRRRRR" why? Whyyy!

    NAT issues, sounds like.

How would I fix it? And what is NAT exactlyy

I've never really done any of this stuff before so I'm a bit oblivious to things such as NAT

Assuming that you're connected through a router which we'll have to since we've been given no information to work with.

NAT stands for Network address translation.

Er sorry, Here I'll explain fully with a bump. I'm using a RCA router, the way my xbox is connected is by a Ethernet splitter port so that I connect the cable into that, one into my computer, and one into the Xbox

Since I'm a computer dimwit I dont really know my own IP adress or dns or whatever I also use a windows PC if that affects anything

Edit: Okay well I lied I know that atleast and I can get into the port website, I'll try to work with what info I was given with although mine is RCA so I have no idea if it would work

WOOOOHOOOOOOOO it only took me 5 hours to figure out!!!

The morale of the story, UPnP should be enabled children.

Thanks everyone my brain needs to have cereal now

Xbox 360 is now = Open for me. my name is Loomdun if anyone wants to go "haro"

I suppose for future purposes, link http://portforward.com . Seems they changed the site around and now is a lot more confusing to navigate, but it does cover a very large list of routers and many different softwares (including Xbox Live.)

Are you going through a router? If so then what brand and are you connected wired or wirelessly?

yah, I got mine to say open now but it still has me dropping from games, could this be because the people that are hosting have a moderate to strict connection? Anyways I'll find out once I get my friends to open from moderate

I'm going through a router and the brand is RCA, I managed to get it to open now so that isn't the problem, but for some reason I still get dropped from the games of higher # of people.

That wasn't really directed at you but if you're still having trouble try bypassing components in your system. I'd start by bypassing the ethernet splitter. If that doesn't work bypass your router and go right to your modem. Then you'll know precisely which point in the system is causing the problem.

yeah I'm going through a router, it's a D-Link DI-524. I've added all teh port farwarding crap and still have the issues, but if I bypass the router and plug straight into the modem it works fine.

am I just SOL and have to buy another router?

edit: thought that site above says that I need to set my xbox on a static IP, I'll try it doing that now. previously I was just opening those ports for all IPs on the network.

edit2: just went back to set it up for a static IP, adn found that my previous rules for forwarding ports were no longer there, that might explain my recent issues. Even though before I even checked it still said open on the connection test, so maybe it will still fix it *crosses fingers*

You shouldn't really have to set a static IP For the XBOX if you're forwarding all ports for the entire IP range. That's more for if you wantto DMZ your 360. Now as a last ditch effort you can try activating UPNP on your router and see if that helps anything. If not, you may have to get another router. Anecdotally I had a DI-524 and ended up dumping due to Live issues.

alright that'll be simple for me to test I'll edit and tell you if its good or bad after checking it. Although, could the fact that my internet cannot host possibly have a reason as to why I still get kicked with a open NAT? Would the hosted target need to be open for me to get in?

well that kind of nullifies the whole suggestion before it :P

Nah. I dumped the 524 before trying UPNP and it was recommended to me by someone else who said they had no problems with it. Always worth a shot before tryign another router.

well I was actually able to connect to a COD4 game today without any issues, so that's a good sign for sure. We'll see if it works in halo groups and private chat too.
