I was surprised that there was no thread for this. MADMEN was an awesome show by AMC, and their newest original, Breaking Bad, premeired last night. The show airs Sundays at 10 PM Eastern.

I'm a sucker for stories about people who take what they want by whatever means necessary (hello, Goodfellas) and Breaking Bad is another story along those lines.
Token Wiki Article: Breaking Bad is an American dark comedy/drama television series created by X-Files producer Vince Gilligan. Its first season, consisting of nine episodes, (seven episodes produced before the writers' strike) is currently in production for AMC, and premiered on January 20, 2008. The series stars Malcolm in the Middle's Bryan Cranston as Walter White, a struggling high school chemistry teacher with a handicapped child and a pregnant wife. When White is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, he "loses it" and turns to a life of crime, setting up a meth lab in order to support his family.
The title of the series comes from the American Southwest slang phrase "to break bad," meaning to challenge conventions, to defy authority and to skirt the edges of the law. The series is set in (and is shot in and near) Albuquerque, NM.
A viral marketing campaign hosted at www.waltswisdom.com was launched by AMC to promote the series. Users receive a personalised message from Walter White where Bryan Cranston calls them by name and berates them for not living their life to the fullest.
As a side note, I've gone to waltswisdom.com and the video is kind of funny. If you go there, and are curious, you can preview the video clip that you'll send out, without actually having to submit your (or anyone else's) information to AMC. You can preview the clip on the second screen of the Flash page.
This is a neat show. I really didn't expect them to do so much in the first episode, however. From the previews, it looked like it would take him much longer to delve head first into it.
Yeah, from watching the first four minutes of the show, I thought that the entire series was going to be a flashback. The way it played out was unexpected, and very welcome.

Damn, missed it.
Anywhere it can be seen before the next episode airs, or am I forever caught in limbo if I want to enjoy this program?
WGA strike makes H&B ration good television like a starving man.

I'm not too sure if you can catch it online or not. I know that AMC has some clips of it on the site I linked in the OP.
Yeah, and luckily they've shot 7/9 shows for the season before the strike. Here's hoping that things get resolved, as this is the only show I watch that has been affected by it.
I caught the encore of the first episode tonight, great show though I agree it comes off as "Weeds.. but with meth"
Not that that's a bad thing, in fact I have high hopes for this show. Based on what they've shown us I think it'll do away with the zaniness and teenage angst that bogs weeds down.

I've lived in Arizona nearly all of my life and I've never heard that phrase. Maybe it's a New Mexico thing?

It sounds like something made up in the Southwest. But yeah, I haven't heard it either.
Maybe it's just a particularly old one from before the area had really settled down which would explain why it fell into disuse.
I almost made a thread for this show yesterday to hype up the second episode. I really like this show, and hope it sticks around. My other shows that I used to watch were Weeds and Californication (Showtime is gargage 99% of the time but those are good shows) and this reminds me of them.
Yeah I started watching this as well. Although I thought it was odd they showed the first two episodes a week apart. What's on the third week? The first two episodes together!
Here's hoping week five isnt the first 3 episodes in a row.

everything came plopping down from the ceiling. To be fair, whenever I've seen acid disposal of a human body depicted, it always in a bathtub. Still, chemistry teacher knows best.
So no one is watching this anymore? I liked the new episode.
The bonding moment was suitably sincere but I knew, absolutely knew (I started yelling at the tv) that Walter was gonna have to kill the dude. It's clever how they came up with the whole "Wait, there's a missing piece of plate!" thing. And when Walter finds out, you really feel for him and realize how badly he wanted to believe his prisoner.
So, I really liked this new episode. I was worried they blew too much too fast, but the pacing is really working itself out and i am still enjoying this show. Excited to see more.
Before I bother watching this (I don't like to waste time on shows unless I think they will be good and not cancelled) can someone tell me that it isn't just weeds with Meth?

It's not just Weeds with meth.
I am a Weeds fan, although some of the last season wasn't very good, and I think this show has a totally different tone to it than weeds. I think a lot of Weeds runs on humor and just sort of a "how ridiculous is this" vibe.
Breaking Bad is fantastic at making me root for Walter, but at the same time we all know he's doing terrible things (kills a guy, slinging meth). There is a dark humor to it, but at the end of each episode I'm just like "wow I can't wait until next week."
I really love this show.

You could totally justify him killing Crazy-8. They even drove the point home with the plate.
As for the meth, that's just an old man being too proud to accept charity.

The whole point is that I'm rooting for him. I wanted him to kill crazy 8 when they showed the plate shards. But that doesn't make me any less sad he is going to HAVE to.
I just love this show because it reminds me of my Uncle Mike when he got cancer. He just acted like a total bad ass and did whatever he did to make the most of his last days, nothing in his way.
Minus meth and violence. His was more Cowboying it up and running a real life chuck wagon.
I love the way that they are handling Walter's transformation from geeky, pushover chem teacher to a criminal badass that does whatever the fuck he wants.
I missed a couple of episodes in the middle, but now I know that I've got to go back and watch them.

I feel like this is kind of coat tails of weeds (which is awesome if you havent seen it). This seems alot darker though from the trailers.
You know, I haven't seen Weeds. I've heard of the basic plot/outline, and I can definitely see the similarities though.
Also, turn on AMC, because it is apparently on right now.

Yeah it certainly isn't American Movie Classics, with Catwoman in their constant play rotation.
The wife and i really enjoyed the show, it was funny, and it fufilled my old man in his under quotient for the week!
It isn't, it's AMC. Like how Kentucky Fried Chicken became KFC when they started serving genetic monsters.
The show seems to have promise, but it'll be interesting to see how it weathers over time with some of the issues being pushed this early in the show.
Watch it, it's fantastic.
They just reaired the first 2 episodes on AMC last night, I'm surprised they were blanking out swear words but showed naked man ass.
Really really good show so far, I will have to add it to my must stay awake and watch rotation.

So there's that.
That was so gross when
I like this show.
On a side note, does anyone here watch Mad Men? I hear that's really good.
Yes, mercury fulminate (Hg(ONC)2) is an explosive.
Burning more than a few hundred milligrams results in DDT (Deflagration into Detonation Transition) and causes a hypersonic shockwave.
