I really wish there were thieves other than Yoshimo and Jan in BG 2. I've grown a little tired of Jan's personality and don't usually need yet another spell caster in my party so my only other choice seems to be rolling a thief of some sort myself, which is something I don't really want to do because pure thieves make pretty lame main characters so I'd have to multi-class and then I can't play as a human. I could go without a thief I guess, but since I'm considering playing with SCS, the detect illusion skill would really come in handy.
I also suffer from debilitating altitis so even if I do make a thief, I'll just probably end up rerolling as a wild mage or as a bloodthirsty inquisitor. And then rerolling as a thief again, or maybe as a cleric because I've never played as a one and then I'll notice clerics are superboring and i dont want to play cleric and ill reroll as a wildmagebutthenilljustbereallyannoyedbyhavingtotakejanalong OH MY GOD I'M DOING IT AGAIN!
By the way, does anyone know if you can summon characters that died during Shadows of Amn through the Fate Spirit in Throne of Bhaal? For example, if I let Keldorn butcher Edwin, could I still summon him in ToB?
Yeah, you could summon Edwin. Only person you can't summon under any circumstances in ToB is
yoshimo
Also, you realize that you can start a multiplayer game and play it all by yourself, right? That way you don't have to rely on the existing characters.
I usually Shadowkeep Imoen to remain a solo thief.
My friend and I are Hamachi'ing through BG 1 and TotSC together and having a hoot. I'm playing a Fighter/Cleric and he a Fighter/ Mage. We just deuced Aec'Letec and cleaned out candlekeep. These games are much more fun with other people. It feels like Diablo with depth.
Are we going to be in good shape in BG 2? You don't really need a thief, do you? I do have the sneaking suspicion that he'll become a bit more useful as things progress, but that's the way Mages grow, I think.

There are--occasionally--some vicious traps in dungeons, but if you don't have a character that can at least detect traps, in BG2 you're usually tough enough to survive them and have enough spare healing spells to recover.
No, you don't really need a thief, they just have a couple of abilities that can be handy. If you got through BG 1 without one, there shouldn't be much of a challenge in doing the same in BG 2, too.
Has anyone tried the Saerileth mod for BG II? I've read some impressions and it seems to be well received. I'd like to hear the opinion's of anyone here who has used it.
The SomethingAwful BGII Let's Play uses Saerelith, but from Shugojin's initial cast list impressions, I'm not sure what to think unless I read the thing and saw her dialogue, which I am not predisposed to do. It's probably very "narmy".

Okay yeah, I perused a good bit of the BGII LP and saw the Saerelith dialogue.
Unless you really really enjoy the thought of engaging in a "romance" fit for a high schooler's fanfiction notebook with a fifteen year old girl who talks like she's out of bad Shakespeare, I would stay far far away.
It's creepy, narm-y to the nth degree, and just... ugh.

There was a ton of work put into it, with its own custom soundtrack and custom cutscenes and it sports some unusual branching dialogue. It's pretty interesting, though, that of all the mods to get such attention and effort, it's an Imoen romance mod.
I really want to start playing these games again, but now that I have a widescreen monitor with a native resolution at 1920x1080 I cringe at the thought. Is there a hack or mod that will let me scale the resolution? I really want to play Planescape Torment.

So what exactly is the relationship between Minsc and Dynaheir? "Bonded witch" doesn't mean much to me.
And is there any way for me to stop Dynaheir from saying "This group shows promise exceptionale." every 15 minutes?
1) He's her bodyguard. That's his mission. Her mission...well, she never really says, but since everyone else seems to be talking about the iron crisis, that's probably it. She would have been sent by the Hathran to keep an eye on the Sword Coast and make sure it wasn't going to spill to Rashemen and the rest of the East.
I think it's time to try a playthrough of BG2 with nothing but men in big armour with 2-handed weapons.
So... Anomen, Keldorn, Minsc, Korgan, and Valygar?
Won't Korgan and Keldorn come to blows?
I think they're okay. It's Korgan/Aerie and Keldorn/Viconia you have to watch out for.
And Minsc/Edwin.
And, naturally, once you get to ToB becoming epic level apparently makes these douches fucking professionals who don't try to rile each other up too much. Or something.

The answer was to quit playing.
That is not the answer in Baldur's Gate II however.

Also I'd be playing the game wrong.
PLAYING THE GAME WRONG

I tried it, but I still get the slowdown and choppiness. It's ok with me to play without 3D acceleration, but thanks for the help anyway.

Usually.
What I'm saying is, keep Yoshimo around.

I've never played with any custom NPCs - what are the decent ones?
That was an awesome pedo TOTP
Not as creepy as the Imoen romance mod.
Ewww. Shades of Luke and Leia.

I actually kind of like the Imoen Romance mod.

It will make everything tiny, but there is.
The IE games are actually pretty at high resolutions.

You sir, are a scholar and a gentleman. Are there mods like this for all the infinity engine games?
Edit: Oh I didn't see Pancake's post.

2) Don't have a high reputation.

Yes.
Fixes a lot more things for Planescape Torment but only for certain resolutions. 720p looks acceptable on a 1080p monitor anyway.
So... Anomen, Keldorn, Minsc, Korgan, and Valygar?
You'd be right.
All
I keed.
Won't Korgan and Keldorn come to blows?

It's pretty good, i'm using it. It's a lot better than the widescreen patch alone.
and 720 is looking fine on my 1440 monitor.
And Minsc/Edwin.
