Good Graphics and Good Gameplay are not mutually exclusive. Stop fucking acting like any game that looks good is a pile of shit and get over your nostalgia.
If this was in response to my disliking Deus Ex 2, it had nothing to do with the graphics. My problem with it was that to make room for those graphics, it turned the levels into a series of small rooms instead of the wide open spaces that I enjoyed in Deus Ex original.
That's arguably more of a side-effect of the console development than the graphics upgrade. My problem with that game come from the screwed up design anyway, it just doesn't capture the feel of the original anywhere near as well.
Okay we're on the same page. That's what made me depressed about Deus Ex 2 and Thief 3: that they were great franchises with awesome gameplay, and they got "dumbed down" so that
1) they could run on the xbox
2) they could be played by the average xbox gamer - I am not saying xbox people are dumb
(if I was an xbox gamer I would be insulted by the insinuation that I needed my games dumbed down)

I'm gonna agree with the death of arcades. One week, there was an arcade in every mall with rows of machines. The next, all replaced by random shops. I remember feeling devastated at the loss of those machines.
This was made all the clearer when I spent some time in Japan and played in those arcades. It felt, well, like returning home in a sense. Playing competitive fighting games, shooting games, and strange card games that I'd not seen in the states... It really reminded me why old arcades were so goddamn awesome.

Ion Storm had licensed Unreal Engine 2 or 2.5, I don't remember. Either way, they licensed it and they liked it, but it couldn't do everything they wanted it to. So they tasked one programmer with adding in the new features and modifying the engine to do new things.
When he came out of his dark, dank hole, they got the end result and the reaction was "... What the fuck is this?" Because it couldn't really do more than what you see in those games. But they were already too far along and they'd burned too much time waiting for the engine revisions to turn back and they had to use it.
The rest of the bad design decisions weren't necessarily dumbing down, but Harvey Smith's vision was one that was streamlined and easy to play. I never thought Thief 3 was appreciably dumbed down.

I find that the stupid overpricing per go on new arcade machines more off putting than the fact they are
'old hat', like I stated earlier in my Time Crisis 4 thread, it would cost me a FORTUNE to finish TC4 in the arcades, which makes a PS3 version purchase much more appealing prospect when coupled with the added bonus modes and the fact that a game isn't really an 'arcade conversion' anymore such as C64/Spectrum games used to be, but more an 'addon' for the arcade games with the extra modes.

This isn't exactly a "moment," but listening to the Chrono Cross OST right now is reminding me of how sad it makes me that the guy behind the Chrono games is occupied with endless FFXI expansions.
The death of Sega as both a hardware publisher and a force in the video game industry saddens me. What exists now is more or less a soulless publishing zombie, cavorting around in the skin of Sega, whoring out what once made them great. I mean, being basically forced to include Nintendo's Mario in a sports-themed minigame collection just to have a modest hit...
Just knowing that it was coming out kept my hopes up for future LucasArts releases.... when Full Throttle 2 got cancelled, the coffin was quickly lowered into the ground. /sigh
For all of Sony's 'lol' PS3 botches, it's their stupid 'we hate 2d' policies that ensure I've got an axe to grind with them for life.

Something that I forgot earlier is that there isn't going to be a sequel to Beyond Good and Evil. Not so much a moment, but still sad as hell.

Then because the spolied rich shit I know from school can do a 3 line BASIC program I turn it off, pull the cart and expect it to work like his spectrum. To this day the immense disappointment burns, as does the shame in knowing I probably made my parents feel like I was such a shit for throwing a tantrum about it not being useable without £20 a pop carts
Moving out to go to University in 1993, coming home every few months to find my kid brother working through a DX4-25 PC, Amiga 32, a 3DO, a sega saturn and a philips CDi (not in order) - Turns out the little sod had some weird deal with a local gamestore and was allowed to borrow/rent this kit, some of which was on import (the 3DO had a US power supply). Me, I got book tokens to go towards text books
Getting a 360 for Xmas this year, playing Halo3 for 5 mins, realising I suck and that I don't think I can convince myself to try it again
