No tank controls (thank goodness). Its just, DMC is so crazy and over-the-top, that its hard to go back to DMC1 after playing it.
I still vastly prefer DMC1 to 3. Actually played 1 again the other day.
The presentation is still bar-none. DMC1 just feels classy. DMC3's presentation feels almost cheap in comparison.
YES...
I remember thinking this first time I played DMC1, everything seems better gelled together and more coherent whereas DMC3 felt like someone with no sense of class had randomly slap-dashed everything together and peppered it with 'Way Cool!' and 'Crazy!' comments.
THe major flaw with DMC3 was the sheer quantity of enemies who cannot be affected by your attacks in any way, i.e. the fucking chess pieces. YOu can't knock them up, cant move them, just have to keep bashing them while avoiding their obvious attack. Tedious rather than challenging.
Why the DMC 3 hate? I played DMC 1 years ago and really loved it, but after putting it in a few months ago I just couldn't stand to get past the first level. It just felt so.. basic.. I plugged in DMC 3 last week and still had a blast doing the bloody palace.

When you unlock all the combos and abilities the DMC games are the deepest games in terms of combat compared to any other adventure/action game ever. Ever.
I disagree! I actually find Ninja Gaiden to be the deeper game, but you end up looking cooler in DMC3. I think Ryu controls better, but Dante is totally radical like a ninja turtle. Not that it matters, because I own and enjoy both.
Yeah they keep moving back my order for the regular edition. After a certain point I must wonder, "When I paid for two day shipping, does that mean two days after the universal shipping date or two days after whenever the fuck that shit actually ends up shipping?"
Amazon is always that slow for me. At least when I preorder from gamestop's web site I get it the week of release. Not to knock amazon too hard though. They are great for movie sales and books.
If there's something specific about the PS3 that requires 22 minutes to rip stuff to the HDD that I'm not aware of, enlighten me. It sounds like Capcom didn't want to work out what was worth storing and what wasn't and rewrite the code to function from the different source so just decided to dump the whole thing.
Not got it yet but doesn't really bother me, much rather have the HDD wear out than constantly read from the disc and wear the drive out.

It was either the super fucking long install or super fucking long loading screens. This will become more and more common into the PS3's life. Remember, the game was origionally designed on the PC, so they can't really be blamed for not wanting to fuck around with the PS3's blu-ray drive slow loading bs, so they made a judgement call. It was either this, or delay the damned game a month or two while they sort it out. Would you have liked that more?
1. Awesome (and somewhat homoerotic) cutscenes.
2. Awesome combat system that allows you to squeeze by mashing or rewards you generously for good timing and flow.
3. Intelligent enemies that require strategies beyond "spam one move in your arsenal."
The short list of why you shouldn't play DMC4:
1. You want to be rewarded for button mashing.
2. You can't stand tongue-in-cheek stupid plots.
3. You don't like fast-paced games.
I think everything else is subjective. I'll try the full game, but I'm holding out for a DMC4: Special Ultimate Extra Large Final Edition with Turbo Mode and Vergil forcibly penetrated into the game.
Also, to the folks who said that DMC3 was trashy or tried too hard - good job, that's what it intended.
Lastly, don't start the Ninja Gaiden vs. DMC argument. DMC's about combos and flow, NG's about pure efficiency in killing enemies.
Be happy with that, they pushed my copy back to being shipped between the 27th and 5th of March. Needless to say I will be on a grand adventure Saturday to find a copy. /sigh

I'm not really complaining about the process. I'm saying that it isn't Sony who is at fault here. Between this and the Dead Rising text thing, Capcom just seem to be lazy and/or like telling their customers to fuck off and deal with it.
It's the hardware that lead to this and Bill over there pretty much explained why.
Yeah..he kind of didn't. He said the Blu Rays at fault for slow loading but I'm pretty sure it was explained in other threads that a BR drive reads at a constant rate while a DVD drive doesn't so overall a BR drive should be close to the same access time as a DVD drive.

Uh
It is at fault. What do you think that install is for? Geez, you know you're allowed to admit something isn't perfect with a system you own right?

Uh
I'm not defending the system here. I'm saying there is no substantial difference that requires a 22 minute install. You CAN say there is but there are tonnes of games that work quite well without huge loading times and low or no installs. I think Uncharted took like 2 minutes and after that I never saw a load after the startup.
Now I love DMC, but its 90% pre-rendered backgrounds, 5% repeat monsters, 3% repeat bosses and 2% weapons. Theres nothing there that requires such a lengthy install, and playing the demo, the levels do not seem significantly, if any larger than those present in previous Devil May Cry's. So that only leaves Capcom dumping it to the HDD because they can and because they don't want to dump a portion and alter the code to access that appropriately so they just dumped the lot.
Yes, because the games that don't get installed on the PS3 take forever to load.
Oh wait, they don't really.
Seriously, the loads time on the PS3 are not that bad, and comparable to load times on the 360. The install just makes the load times even shorter, or in some cases, non-existent.

oh lord
That takes time. Maybe you should read Bill's post again?
This is a multiplatform game, it's not going to get the same luxuries Uncharted or some other PS3 focused game would. You have to think about the other console too.
Oh, and I'm pretty sure this DMC doesn't use pre-rendered backgrounds.

I heard that if you Just-Rev during the fright frames in the install the time goes down to 1 minute.
What I'm saying with this is that this thread is about how CRAZY this PARTY is going to GET.
So talk about the game and what you're doing in it and not about "olol consoles are different and make noises"

I don't get the game until Friday and it's a busy day today.
I can talk about the most inane shit right about now. :P
So those that have it, is the difficulty setting on the demo the easiest setting when you initially start the game? I'm trying to choose the right difficulty and the demo seemed far too easy really. So maybe go for the more difficult one?

Or does it ramp up a hell of a lot more later?
No one's helping you out here, so I'll just copy and paste some stuff.
Human mode is targeted at the casual gamer audience. This difficulty is for people who aren't challenge addicts and merely want to get through DMC4 for the story or just the experience. This is also the difficulty of choice for newcomers. This mode isn't "hold your hand" type easy, it's a moderate difficulty that doesn't come with the harsh punishment that the series is renowned for. You are put on this difficulty if you pick the "This is my first time playing DMC" option at the beginning
Devil Hunter mode is targeted at the core DMC audience, the fanbase. This is also the difficulty of choice for challenge addicts and for all intents and purposes, the difficulty at which DMC4 is recommended by fans for the proper DMC experience. It is NOT the Normal mode, as both Human and Devil Hunter mode are DMC4's "normal" mode. However, because of the disparity in gamers nowadays these 2 "Normal" modes are made to cater to as wide as an audience possible. You are put on this difficulty if you pick the "I have played DMC before" option at the beginning.
*DMC4 will have a total of 6 difficulty modes, including a brand new difficulty mode that is higher than the previous Dante Must Die mode.

DMC, as far as difficulty is concerned, is harder, and deeper, then Ninja Gaiden.
Why?
The simple fact is because their difficulty systems are built differently.
Ninja Gaiden is a learning process/reward system. Fights are obscenly impossible, until you learn the method to defeat them. Then you rape them using said method and look badass while doing it. It's is nearly impossible to beat the enemy using any other method.
Devil May Cry is just sheer difficulty. Every enemy can be defeated a multitude of ways, however, nothing straight up fucks em proper to lend a obscene atvantage over any other method(Other then Royal guard, which is stupidly difficult to master). This allows them to scale the enemies difficulty far harder then Ninja Gaiden, while retaining the freedom to kill them however you want.
Keep in mind, I like the Ninja Gaiden system a little more then the DMC method, since I like getting sweet delicious rewards for banging my head against the wall for 20 minutes.
However, both systems of difficulty are fantastic.
I don't know what you're talking about with Ninja Gaiden. I never have to find some method. I just hit guys with my sword and dodge until they're dead. The hard part is successfully dodging and successfully hitting them with my sword.

Thanks ranced. Hmm. I found DMC3:SE A little too hard on normal, at least the first time round, but to be fair I didn't have the patience for it then. That sounds like devil hunter is around DMC3 normal. I'll give it a try.

PS3 DMC4 get.
Sure, I have a 360 but dammit my PS3 is so lonely.
Installing now...the backstory info and music is pretty cool during the install, too bad the backstory only lasts for 20% or so before starting over.
