And didn't they change the name of Dante's business to Devil Never Cry at the end of DMC1? Did they decide a week after changing it that it was the most godawful name ever?
More risk (you move away from middle of the area with Streak and the camera moves with you), more button presses. Mine wins.
Super secret cut scene:
Lady pays Dante and Trish like $20 for their help in Fortuna. Dante and Trish get testy that they're not paid enough. Trish gets a phone call for more devil hunting business. Lady wants to tag along, and Dante and Trish tell her she's welcome to but she won't be paid. They break Dante's door down and pose Charlie's Angel style. The end.

So, fighting bosses with Nero and Dante is pretty different.
In my opinion, the actual fights are much cooler with Nero cause he has the Devil Bringer. Pounding Belial into the ground or punching
"His holiness"
repeatedly in the face is just awesome and fits DMC so well.
As Dante, you don't get these cool little things and just wail away at the boss until he is down but the cutscenes as him are infinitely better than with Nero. It's like Capcom said "Ok so you don't have this cool stuff in the fight with Dante, let's just jack you guys off in the cutscenes before and after the battles."

Devil Bringer is worth it for "I'm not interested in any of your bullshit" *BAM*. Best in fight dialogue ever.
And Dante doesn't get that stuff but gets a much wider array of moves to make you look cooler.
I will never understand this. Devil May Cry has ALWAYS been cheesy in the dialog department.
Anyways, here's to hoping you can choose Trish and Lady as character in the next game alongside Dante and Nero.
Dear god yes. I want more Dante and Trish banter.
Also, how much must Dante spend on doors? Everytime he gets a job he seems to bust down his door in one way or another. I kinda wanted one of them to say
So any good Lucifer combo videos out there? I tried a Lucifer-only Bloody Palace run last night but wasn't very successful. While I did manage to pull off a few cool moments, overall I was too slow at killing demons.
I also did the first 3 missions of Son of Sparda difficulty. Now finally this feels like an appropriate difficulty for a DMC game. Monsters are more aggressive and actually hurt when they hit you.

I would kill to play as Lady in the next DMC. I say give us a choice for every level, as much as I liked Nero, I spent half the game waiting for the part where I get to play Dante again.
Oh god, on Son of Sparda mode you can fight bosses on Nero's stupid puzzle board in the lab. WHY DO I NEED TO KILL THAT FROG AGAIN? I HATE FIGHTING THE STUPID FROG. AT LEAST LET ME FIGHT BERIAL AGAIN HE'S FUN.

How do you perform busters on the Frog btw? Its hard to tell on some bosses or doesn't open up often like Agnus. I only saw him winded once our entire fight. Never saw a huge opening on Angelo C. either, but Bael and Dagon especially.

When he disappears and his little lesbian antennae show up, if you hit one of them enough for it to lose color and fall down, you can buster the chick to pull him out of his hiding spot and beat on him. If you do it enough he becomes dazed (he falls down and his tongue falls out of his mouth) you buster him again and it does a fair amount of damage

Sometimes he becomes dazed on his own too but it's rare. Didn't know about the thing with the feelers though, I always tried to stay out of their way because that freeze attack is cheap and painful.

They're actually fairly easy as long as you pay attention and notice their sword attack. Getting caught in the spinning sword attack tends to be a pain.
Thanks for the info btw, I just kept slashing them to try and kill them, never thought of bustering them.
Also I still feel the lesser enemies are lacking compared to DMC3. THere tended to be hordes on screen at any time and you had to keep an ear out for certain screeches to alert you to offscreen lunges. They were fast and lethal. The scarecrows? They only hit you if you stay in one place too long and aren't hitting them.

You know that you can cheat the dice game right? If you hit the cube with the devil bringer it will always land on the number that was showing on top last.

I really noticed this because I just beat DMC3 before 4. I'm on misson 6 already in 4, and I've only died once--and that was at Bael. My default reaction to new enemies in 3 was fear and suspicion, because it was so easy to get your ass kicked. In 4, both of the new enemies so far have been chumps.

Well, now that they got the whole "We need to tell Nero's story" business out of the way, I'm hoping that's the way it goes. Lady and Trish already have their own weapons (Although, Trish is almost identical to Dante),
so they might as well make them playable.
The dice rolls in an ordered fashion. In my play, the number 4 always went after number 1. So it was easy to Snatch a 4 when I saw a 1 :^:
The DT'ed context-buster move on bosses are a neat touch. Berial and the last boss were the only ones I've tried so far, but I'm definately gonna try them all now.

That really wouldn't work. Not well anyway. They're both fairly long range fighters unless you give them Beowulf style combos instead and while thats ok in Trish's case Lady isn't superhumanly strong. Also Lady doesn't get any power upgrades either while Trish can, I guess, have a DT. As optional characters itd be ok but as a full playthrough? Nah.

For a while I thought they were going to make Lady playable in DMC3's SE. Then you'd have three wildly differing playstyles - Dante's, naturally, Vergil's melee-orientated bad-assery, and Lady's solely gun-based game. It could work as a combination of gunslinger and trickster, perhaps.
And most importantly, it would be completely awesome.
Trish would work fine as a skin for Dante, just like the LDK up until 4. I've not played 2, so I don't know how well they managed making her playable there.

Mid game spoiler
Just fought the pope and once I found out how to get past his forcefield it was on like donkey kong. Zip line to him...slashes to the face and the most brutal beating this side of a brazillian soccer riot. Not sure I got the I'm sick of your bullshit line...I think I got 3 other ones but I'm so replaying that stage over just for the fun of it.
So far this game is so awesome. And no boss that I absolutely hate. Expect maybe gilgamesh cause dante can't hover in the air like hero
Final(?) Boss
Nice sense of scale, but christ was it a boring, un-DMC fight. Now I got to replay it again since I got a D in it, as I never got my style points up.

You obviously had a better experience htan me because 9 times out of 10 the fucker either teleported away from the stunning slash or fired something at me that knocked me back before raising his barrier again.
As for the quote, you get it when hes stunned and use buster on him. I think there are two different lines that can play during that time.
And equip swordmaster and Dante can hover better than Nero can.

eh he keeps wanting to do helm splitter when I'm airborn. So I've gone to plan be...jump as close as I can and shotgun the hell out of the dragon's egg spewer. The frog I was able to just dodge to the side and wail away on so no biggie there. And can probably do the same to the fire demon. Get in close DT and pound away with gilgamesh hehe
I dunno about you guys but I reckon Nero could've been easily swapped out with Dante, just allow access when he has Trickster lv4 and use Teleport on the grapple points. Oh and the cutscenes would need extra work, but yeah.
Automatic was way too unpredictable for my tastes. About the only thing I liked was the auto gun charge.
I wonder if they can pull off some DLC with a Dante/Virgil duel or something. That would rock ever so hard, and I'd buy MS Points for the first time.
[edit] Dante hovers using the Swordmaster's Aerial Rave (Style button).
Regarding Lucifer: it's not a go-to weapon. It's a support weapon just like Nevan was in DMC3. You set yourself up to use Lucifer with Rebellion or Gilgamesh.
For example:
Rebellion Stinger -> switch to Lucifer -> target the guy -> jump forward -> attack -> Air Hike -> jump forward -> switch to Rebellion -> Hightime -> switch to Lucifer -> Swordmaster attacks set up more blades -> switch to Rebellion -> Prop Shredder -> switch to Lucifer -> R1 + back + attack to explode the Lucifer blades.
Regarding Bael / Dagon: the same general strategies for fighting Berial work well. Attack with Aerial Rave / charge shots / Pandora and jump as needed until they are stunned. Then go up to them and DT -> Buster with Nero or DT -> Real Impact with Dante. Bael and Dagon become dazed and ready for punishment after you shave off enough ice off his back. For example with Nero, jump toward him -> Aerial Rave x 2 or 3 -> Snatch to pull yourself to him on a different side -> Aerial Rave -> repeat -> charge shots, etc -> and he usually gets stunned after a few goes. The Snatch keeps you mobile and pretty safe. Air Hike to safety as needed.
It's surprising how few people know that you are invincible in a jump on the way up. Abuse this. You can literally jump straight up THROUGH attacks and you'll be fine. Try dodging the final boss's dives at you by jumping straight up. :P Time the jump right before the attack hits.
Lastly, if you're hit or about to get hit, your first reaction should be to DT. Not only do you reduce damage taken by like 3 times, you gain health back too.
Regarding Automatic mode: it actually takes control OUT of the player's control. You're supposed to have your finger on the dodge button playing cautiously.
Regarding downloadable content: it won't happen.
Regarding fighting the final boss: you can quickly break his shield by Snatching to him, doing 3 revved Aerial Rave slashes -> Air Hike -> Calibur. Calibur is an aerial Streak basically. Generally he will float barely out of the range of your Aerial Rave. If you break his shield and only need to hit him one more time to make him vulnerable, Calibur is great for moving yourself forward and attacking at the same time.
Regarding playing as Lady / Trish: Lady is playable in a very bugged manner if you use a game breaker. Trish was playable in DMC2, and ironically was the best character because she played just like DMC1 Dante. :P
Dante must Die mode unlocked. I love how enemies really hate being caught by the Devil Bringer, if you manage to snatch a Frost while in the air after the bastards constantly dodge your grab attempts there is a damn good chance they will air recovery away before you can do a Buster on them. I can't see anyone who hasn't mastered instant revving having an easy time in DMD mode and that's even disregarding the fact that the enemies will Devil Trigger like in DMC3.
Does anyone else use items? I don't mind using vitality stars in DMD mode as I'm just trying to beat the game and unlock everything first before I go for style runs and the Bloody Palace.
God damn that frog when he devil triggers, ex attacks do as much damage as firing your guns at him.
Regarding Lucifer, I'v found a VERY good use for it. When Mephistos appear (the cloaked guys), equip Lucifer and Pandora and lock onto one. Jump into him and start unloading swords into him until you are about to hit the floor, then, unload some gattling gun rounds into him, throw the rose and fire a rocket. Within around 4 seconds you have a decloaked Mephisto. Also, I tend to use it when fighting the lighting dudes, I like to start laying loads of swords down when they are about to burst out of the floor, then detonate them when they rise up.
I would kill to play as Lady in the next DMC. I say give us a choice for every level, as much as I liked Nero, I spent half the game waiting for the part where I get to play Dante again.

Lady doesn't necessarily have to be completely gun-based... her all-purpose gun has a bayonet on the end, so you could always have a mix-up of bayonet attacks, and bare-fisted strikes.
Just finished on Devil Hunter. Do we have any tips yet on gaining skills? I mean, Mission 7 is an easy place to farm red orbs, but what's the more efficient way to gain proud souls? It doesn't seem like you accumulate many over the course of the game.

Just play through the game. I'm around 1/4 my way through DMD mode and still can't afford the last 4 or so abilities.
You can also try a bloody palace run. It's a fun way to get a good amount of proud souls and red orbs. And it lets you practice your fighting skills without having to bother with any exploration or platforming.
But I do loves me some Dante. I like that they give you all Nero's spent Proud Souls back, because I was able to max out all the styles and weapons (on Son of Sparda mode).

the second level. 2500 proudsouls in 9 mins is worth it to me.
berial can be beaten in like >20 seconds.
hand grapple >aerial rave> air hike> aerial rave> ground combo C into a riser (time this right and youll jump over his ground slash)> aerial rave>hand grapple> calibur,
(fire should now be long gone)
DT aerial rave, air hike aerial rave, buster his face and during the animation mash the gun button like a CRAAZZYY PARTY! land on the ground, use a slash then buster his body while mashing the fire button during the animation.
there should be a little bit left in him so streak him and slash him when hes far away.
youve got one dead boss.
meanwhile, right now ive beaten devil hunter, but ive taken a change of pace. instead of trying harder levels, im trying to find uses for the more useless moves.
-try beating the shit out of the plant lady with a rose only.
-Gilgamesh is certainly the weapon of choice if you want to slow the pace of dante's game.
-Im trying to get a vid together of table hopping in a more practical use. its like a double edged sword version of royal guard, except the handle is also a knife.
also cool little fact, i tried to bustered an angel in the air and i think nero was supposed to say "got you!", but i think the sound skipped and he screamed "FUCK YOU!" during the last spear pump.

But I do loves me some Dante. I like that they give you all Nero's spent Proud Souls back, because I was able to max out all the styles and weapons (on Son of Sparda mode).
I don't mind the bosses (Playing Megaman has taught us at least that much) but how you get to them that I find annoying.
That goes right off the cheese scale.
Is that the fight with
Because I loved that whole scene so much.
the second level.
