Does mashing the gun button actually shoot the gun during the DB scenes? I thought you can only charge it?
no, if youre DT'd you devil will shoot swords out as its version of bullets. since you cant actively shoot your gun during cutscenes, the trigger can still fire the swords for extra damage even though youre not actively using the blue rose.
notice how nero isnt being hit during the explosion attacks. clever bastards
That's really cool actually =o
I think I'm starting to get the hang of instant revving but it still annoys me. I can consistently get the first hit and Streak, I can get the second hit of Combo 1 decently but everything else refuses to click so far. MORE PRACTISE IS NEEDED! (It probably doesn't help I use Dante exclusively when I'm doing Bloody Palace or screwing around, maybe I'll take Nero through the palace a couple of times.)
I did not enjoy the second half as much as the first.
I got kinda overwhelmed with all the combat options for Dante, there is just so much to learn. Plus, I missed the "grabby grabby grabby" fun of Nero's arm. Good game though.

Speaking of Shuffle (and Calibur), I know that a lot of people have trouble inputting it correctly. Instead of charging back, then forward and attack, do a half-circle on the stick (clockwise or not, doesn't matter) and the move will come out like every time.
After figuring that out, I started playing golf with Shuffle against downed enemies all day, haha.

With Dante just stick with Trickster, Swordmaster, Rebellion and Ebony & Ivory, the rest of the skills and weapons are more suited to specific moments in the harder difficulties.
Also, I'v found Darkslayer to be a surprisingly good and useful style to use, especially while fighting those flying swords

Gilgamesh is great for single enemies if you have time, it seems to hit harder. I like opening up a enemies defences, particularly the knights, with Rebellion and then laying into them with a hard-hitting Gilgamesh combo.

What the hell does Dark Slayer do? I only got it at the end where there wasn't much time to fuck about with it. I just saw the slashes thing.
Dark Slayer was Vergil's Style in DMC3. You teleport (Air Trick) to enemies, teleport upward (Trick Up), and teleport downward (Trick Down) if you're in the air and teleport backward if you're on the ground.
With the right timing it's the only style you need because you are invincible during teleport. Try teleporting THROUGH enemies' attacks as they're hitting you, only to continue your onslaught as soon as you reappear.
Other fun things:
- Teleport THROUGH an explosion
- Double launch an enemy -> Trick Up to meet him even higher in the air -> jump off their body -> double jump again -> Helm Breaker or Rainstorm from very high up
- jump cancel Air Trick's rapidly on an enemy's body and you are literally a blur the whole time
So I just got this game, pretty damned fun. It's my first DMC though, and I went through the first level and beat Berial without much trouble at all on Human mode. It was honestly much easier than I expected; I didn't die at all. So before I go any further I wanted to ask: should I start over on the harder difficulty, or does the game get much harder further into it?
Even Devil Hunter mode isn't all that challenging compared to the usual DMC difficulties. Ennemies don,t attack very often and they don't hurt that much. Some bosses may take you a few tries to learn but other than that it's not very difficult.

I agree. SoS mode feels more like a "real" DMC in terms of difficulty.
Honestly, I find groups of regular enemies to be way more challenging than any of the bosses. Like anything + thunder lizard.

I played through Devil Hunter first and beat it today. It was just the right challenge, maybe a bit on the easy side.
Now I'll beat human mode though, cause I just noticed they don't give you the achievements for Human if you just beat Devil Hunter....
So I guess I'll just stomp through the game and get some proud souls and red orbs on my way.
So I destroyed all the orbs on his body except the one on his chest which I can now shoot to make his health go down very slowly. Is there some better way to hit the chest orb?
So I just found out that switching to automatic doesn't affect your rankings at all.
Lame. Though I was wondering how my friend was getting S rank on missions while I got A's, even though I was slaughtering him in the leaderboards at the begining. He then discovered automatic mode.
I was feeling all proud of myself for beating berial without a scratch, and then realised how retardedly easy it was and why the hell hadn't I managed it before?
I think it's partly because I actually use snatch now, whereas I didn't in my first play through. makes keeping combos going so easy, in a way neither stinger or streak do, because of the knockback.

There's a platform high up that the Savior occasionally rises up in front of. Wail on him as much as possible, use Pandora's missiles if you have to, and eventually it'll fall down on some ruins. Then you jump down and hammer away at the chest as much as possible. Rinse and repeat.
I'm also not a fan of every ability going up in price when you buy any other ability. Its fucking hard enough to get good moves without that hapenning.
Was it just me or was Bael (sp?) way harder than Dagon? I don't know if I just suck with Nero, but I died on Bael the first time I fought him (granted he got me stuck in a corner and kept swallowing me), and when I fought Dagon I killed him without getting hit.

Its experience more than anything. You should never really get hit by Dagon ever because his moves are farely well telegraphed. Once you've fought that far into the game, you'd just be too wise to get caught out. Plus he is apparently a little weaker than Bael.

If he eats you, bust out the Yamato and he will spit you out. Then, stun him, shout 'CHEW ON THIS, BITCH!' then use the devil bringer to dive into his mouth and start tearing up his insides.

Sweet, sweet irony.
See, as Dante I could stun Dagon with a few combos to his ice. When I fought Bael the second time with Nero, I don't think I managed to stun him once.

Question about Bloody Palace:
I just tried it out for the first time and got to Belial who suddenly did some stuff I've never seen him do before.
What difficulty are the enemies in BP? SoS or DMD?
And also, I am now the 116 ranked German in Bloody Palace. Out of 238....Go me?
SO I just finished mission 10, and I gotta say i'm a bit dissapointed.
The Dante fight just didn't seem epic, certainly not when compared to the Virgil ones in DMC 3. Those were great, especially the first one, when you're fighting atop the tower. This one though was kinda blah. Especially once you figure how the trick to beating Dante. I just kept shooting my guns and getting closer, and then slashing at him. Took no skill.
Berial is bullshit because of those attacks that are basically impossible to dodge. He has the huge fire nova thing that I can't figure out how to avoid aside from just running away from him and being outside the radius in time, which never works. He also has that vertical slash move that always hits me. Theres a lot of other things he does that are just lame as shit, you can't predit what hes doing.
Attack Belial's hind legs. His fire nova has 1/3rd the range from the back, and his attacks are easier to dodge while standing behind him.
I learned this after many defeats....now I get past floor 20 every time. Just don't go nuts with attacks, dodge when you can, and always attack his back. [Don't bother with the devil bringer above Devil hunter mode, unless it's while he's stunned.]
Wait basically impossible to dodge? Seriously, I suck and I managed to beat him without getting hit. vertical slash? move to the side, or attack from behind. Fire nova he does after he's been knocked down so usually you've hit him away, though with dante I can see it being slightly trickier. the rest are fairly obvious...

That's actually Shuffle. The back > forward + Y attack.
The leaderboard is not good for my confidence. I see all these scores that are about x10 higher than mine

And I'm about five thousand times worse with Nero.
EDIT: Jesus Christ, what
Never Say Die (50 points): Clear all missions in Dante Must Die mode with an "S" rank.
Some of this game's achievements are just brutal.
I looked at the gamercard of the number 1# ranked player in the world.
He is Japanese. And he has like 980/1000 points.
I think I may have found God's gamercard.
For example, one of the best DMC3 players, Marty81, only SS'ed like, 2 or 3 missions on DMD!, yet has produced videos like this:

What's the one hes missing?

I was gonna say, it didn't seem anything like that good in DMC4.
Otherwise I pretty much exclusively stick with Sword Master.
