Mewtwo is one of those characters where you need to wavedash to use properly. It's what gives you a fighting chance against some characters. I mean but shit, it's practically impossible to beat a half-assed marth w/o it (and I can't wavedash :< if I could, I'd be maining mewtwo)
Yeah, I can't Wavedash either, which is really one of the reasons I hope it doesn't return. Selfish, I know.

Oh, wavedashing is right out. And I'm pretty sure if I still played smash frequently, I'd get better at it, but all these brawl delays have sapped my will to play.

By the way, wavedashing is really easy to pull off. There are tons of videos about it on youtube, that walk you through it. It's useful, but it's not the end-all technique some people make it out to be. It helps you get across platforms faster, you can get out of the way of some attacks and get a throw in, but SHFFLing is by far the most important thing to melee.
