you'd be asking the wrong person, because I doubt she could answer them if she tried. That's one of the things I hate about ANY interview..not just Faux news. People throw stats at each other as if they're irrefutable evidence. but the old saying goes...stats don't lie but liars use stats.

Yeah, but to quote the blonde: "Yeah. But it's getting SO hard to be a parent out there." Yeah. You're right, it's so hard to be a parent. If you think that it's going to be too hard for you, close your legs and PLEASE don't have any children.

It's not hard to set the parental controls on the machine. And it's really hard to buy a game if you're under 17 that's rated M.

Even if the kid does manage to buy the game, what do you do when you see him playing it? Say, "Well, shit, I guess I did all I could"? Fuck no - take it away from him (maybe pay him back some of the money) as punishment for buying an adult game when you (presumably) told him not to. That would have been the very least I would expect from my parents if they found porn in my possession when I was too young.

From what I have heard, this book is not just pornographic and ethically-repulsive, it is dangerous. Unlike the video game and movie industries, the publishing industry is not regulated by a ratings authority. There is no mechanism in place to inform parents about the contents of this book, or any other book, before allowing their children to read.

This book's title seems positive, when the actual book is anything but. The effort of the author and publishing company to market this book towards children is disturbing to say the least. While they claim that this book is actually marketed towards young adult women there is not yet an effective way to stop children from purchasing this book. The purveyors know this and see it as nothing more than an advantage to their bottom line.

And even if there was such a mechanism in place, do you really think that children wont be able to get their hands on this book? Do you keep your pornographic books in a locked safe? The majority of book readers do nothing to protect their children from offensive books. And why should they have to? The job of being a parent is hard enough without filth like this infecting our children's minds.

    This was my favourite.

Damn unregulated book industry running rampant, destroying our children and their minds.

Hmmm, I'm thinking it'd be alot of fun to call in and complain about the graphic sexual content featured in Viva Pinata, and the over the top violence it includes. Also comment on the fact that the sex scenes are interactive in the form of a mini game.

Could really help Fox look ridiculous even to the general public on this one.

There was. A few different angles. One of them was encouraging dogfighting or cockfighting, another was the vague references to non-Christian mythologies, and a third was because some dumb kid in either Turkey or China (I remember similar incidents in both countries, can't remember which this was) jumped off a balcony claiming he could fly because he was Ponyta.
    Ponyta can't fly.

Man there is an entire class of Pokemon marked "flying." There's really no excuse for that.

Anyway, I'm not really angry at the original clip. I'm a little flabbergasted, but at this point I guess I'm used to it by now. Big points to EA for actually defending Bioware, though.

If EA could demonstrate actual loss of sales & reputation from this then they might be able to bring some sort of slander suit up. Too bad that the opposite is probably likely to happen.

Actually, I'm not sure whether to say which would be a bad thing.

Anyone know anything about that study the Fox "expert" was talking about at the end? Something about kids who play video games can't tell the difference between reality and the game?

I asked this back on page 1, and didn't get a response. So I just did some very rudimentary Googling, and I found this, which seems to respond to our question fairly well.

I wonder if she's seen the studies that calculate the average age of gamers at 33 years old.

I don't know many 60+ year old gamers who might be skewing that average. I certainly know a lot of young kids who play video games, so to bring the average upwards of 30, there have to be A LOT of 30-somethings playing games.

To be fair, that study DID happen to list one six-thousand year old gamer.

Fox news reporting half-truths and blatant lies!?

    Color me shocked!

I don't even think that this news report even deserved the attention necessary to produce a rebuttal. But if you want Western media outlets to really think twice before producing something you disagree with you could riot over small inaccuracies and ill-perceived slights and perhaps even behead a few people. But even then, don't expect decent reporting. I mean for Christ sakes, how the hell does Bill Oreilly have a job anyhow?

Seriously. God of War IS exactly the type of game these people just love sinking their teeth into, AND it's massively popular. You're pretty much rewarded at every turn for acting completely immorally - in fact, the game REQUIRES YOU TO (something which isn't even true of Grand Theft Auto).

Edit: We could probably talk all day about how there are better games to target, but meh. Remember when for YEARS the only game anybody could attack was Doom? Entire series of far more violent games were born and died before they got off of poor old pixelated Doom.
