Sometimes dipshits isn't far off the mark, but I meant DPS. We tend to pronounce it as "dips" on vent, and it kinda stuck. Sorry if it bugs you
I always wondered how other people prounounced that as a word. We say "deeps", and while I also don't care for its use as a verb, its faster than saying "damage dealing capabilities" or "melee damage". Also, I'm a very lazy man.
There is a guy in my guild that instead of pronouncing it "Maylay", pronounces it "Meeeleee"...
SO fucking annoying, it's like fingernails on a chalkboard for me.
Tell him I am stabbing him through the tubes of the intertron right now :x

Saban puts it best. If paladins didn't have blessings they wouldn't be invited to raids. They can cast one spell (occasionally a second!!!11!) ad nauseum. God forbid they get stunned, silenced, or are otherwise unable to cast that spell, because they have no HoTs, they have no group heals, and they do not bring anything useful to the table that the other healing classes bring.
I can top healing meters too. Meters don't exactly do a good job at measuring a person's ability or usefulness, just how well they time their spells compared to the other 6 people doing the same.
But put me on a resto druid with equal gear to my paladin and it's no contest. The ability to be extremely proficient single target healers as well as a raid healer trumps the ability to cast one spell over and over.
Edit; dont even get me started on paladin healing in PvP (especially arenas)
Eh. I'm not going to argue about it anymore - I haven't played a healing class, so I am basing this off of what I have seen, and what my guildies have said. The paladin who does top meters is a amazing player to be fair, and he has pretty crazy gear too, which probably helps.

Maybe for Holy. I can still get my raid slot by picking big fights. ;-)

I admit, I prounounced melee as "meee leee" until I used the 'pronounce it' feature on dictionary.com and heard it pronounced properly as 'may lay'. Even so, I have to consciously choose to pronounce it correctly ever since, as I still see it as "mee lee" when I read it.
Same thing with 'scythe'. I read it and have always pronounced it as "sk-IH-th" when it's actually "SIGH-th". I still catch myself mispronouncing that now and again.
In my previous guild (which was predominantly Australian), we had this girl with the sexiest accent. In her previous guild (which was predominantly American), she had to stop explaining boss fights over vent because people wouldn't pay attention to what she was saying, and would be like "could you say melee again?"
For the record, she pronounced it like "m'lay." It was awesome.

Edit: To clarify, I am talking purely about PvE.
Sounds like your Paladin is a cross-healing mess cleaner. You won't top meters with single target healing unless you're using a warlock dressed in waffles as a tank.

Oh, he snipes heals. That's his big thing. Mainly on locks when we lifetap.
We used to have a guy in the Beasts who would say "Monroes" over vent, when referring to "Moroes". Yes, we corrected him 13,000 times, and yes, he kept doing it because he was that retarded.
no, shut up, none of you know the pain of having to hear
"hey guys we r on the see'thoon now let's kill the seeee'thoon oh man shit guys the seeeeeee'thoooooon is hard"
They were talking about C'thun, which I, and everyone who is normal, pronounce as "Ka-thoon". This wasn't in OS, so I couldn't snap and yell at the whole fucking lot of them. Truly a sad day for me.

I hear people pronounce AND see them type Shattrath as "Shattra" (as in, 'Shat-Ruh'). I don't get it. Did your eyes just get bored and wander off after the second 't'?

There was a team of 3 players on lightninghoof hordeside a while back. They were douchebags, all of them, a pompous lot.
You had Uslashed, the warrior.
Urooted, the Druid.
And Ucuted, the rogue.
Apparently, nobody taught him that the past tense of Cut is Cut.

The very notion of Paladin healing has completely changed. My priest takes a while to get going (I think I just need to warm up when I'm healing in a raid), but then I just demolish Paladins in pretty much every way. When I can pump out a spell that heals five people for over 2K each in, what, like three seconds, Paladins start to fall behind. Then comes renew, Gift of the Naaru, CoH spam (Holy crap it crits for like 1500 now!) and even binding heal, which I never actually use. Not to mention Flash heal and Greater heal. Then of course there's the spirit of redemption, which has pulled the group out of wipes more than once. I actually WANT to die first when my mana peters out and things start to domino out of control.
Paladins are so gimped when it comes to healing. I'd rather have three priests.
Although, we do have a Paladin healer in my main group - he spot heals because he can't keep up on main tanks when we fight bosses. But he raid heals very, very well.
Also some real Sunwell loot info. I want to know what I don't need to angst about getting out of current content. For example how the best wand in the game is off fucking Solarian and even when we occasionally kill her she drops VST every time.
Not so much a mispronunciation as a case of cat-got-my-goddamn-tongue, but last night when I was bitching over vent about Leotheras dodging my mangles (and so going briefly wild after each whirlwind), I mispronounced it as mangos.
Truth be told I think that one's gonna stick :P

It's useful for making in blatantly obvious how often priests die in raids and giving everyone else a giggle.
Haha, this is true now that I think about it. Our raid leader, Eldercain, is a holy priest. We alternate between deadpan "eldercain more like deaderslain am i right" and me saying in my best Eeyore voice "Oh look, improved death. How unexpected."
Now that I think about it though, man, I think he dies every other pull in SSC and TK. :P
(edit) Okay, so you can justify improved death... but can you justify The Spotlight?!

Oh man, almost every time I go to Kara priests get raped by the elemental pulls right before Curator. If the tanks are especially co-ordinated, they can hold them off, but so much healing threat is generated in that fight a healer goes down every other pull.
EDIT: Especially me - I'm addicted to Circle of Healing. That's like, 5K+ HPS (Assuming everyone is taking damage).

If I heard someone say Ka-thoon I would have no idea what they meant. I'd pronounce it Ku-thun. I think my prononcation of this is somehow influenced by Cthulhu, because I think the two names are similar.

The best part about Spirit of Redemption is that every time a priest dies, it counts for two deaths on WWS/Recount. We have a Holy Priest as our designated wipe recovery Soulstone target, and she easily tops the death meter every raid. We probably ought to soulstone a paladin for wipe recovery, but that priest is the GL's wife and healing class leader, and on those occasions where she isn't immediately obliterated by raid damage, she's got much better instincts for getting into a safe spot to die when it's time to wipe than most of our other healers.

I was thinking about rolling a dorf too.
Dorfs are the greatest thing in anything ever

Munkus is rolling a Dwarf because he's going to be joining UDL...

I kind of assumed you already knew this though, as my sig says Warlock.

We do have the shittiest caster loot possible though, so it wasn't a shock.

We've had it drop twice. Once went to a mage who does good DPS, so that was good. The first one went to... a shadow priest.
Who also has our only Slippers of the Seacaller and our second Vestments of the Sea-Witch.
Who quit raiding over Christmas break.
sgjldkhs;
This sounds fucking awesome. I have.......
Short little heal.
Longer big heal.

I heard later on that he was constantly being mocked by his guildmates for it. That's the only reason why I learned that he meant it to be cut.
