And even some guns with good iron sights obscure a great deal of the action. Red dot lowers the weapon a bit, and improves visibility, so I can leave the sights up while scanning for targets, without leaving a blind spot.
Oh my god, why didn't I think of that?! A red dot!! :P
I was making a point about the game's treatment of the sights. The weapon shouldn't be held much differently when aiming down the red dot. It's only raised a bit from the line your eyes would have to follow through the sight posts, and yet the RPD is held at an angle that's almost hip-firing. The difference in visibility is much greater than it should be.
On the subject of Last Stand, I have this to say. If your solution to problems with a perk involves making someone invincible, even momentarily, then it's time to re-examine your approach. This is a shooter, it doesn't need absolute realism, but it needs to look and feel as if it takes place within our physical universe.
Yeah, would it have hurt to have made iron sights that didn't completely obscure what you're shooting at.

With a red dot, you only have ONE shot go exactly where you intend it to. There's so much recoil, it will lurch left, right, up, down, etc on every follow up shot. You almost have to use the grip if you intend to be proficient with it. Which, brings up the problem of the iron sights. They're the worst in the game, along with the M14s. It does a lot of damage, but it's just a shitty weapon. RPD FTW.
The M60 is my favorite LMG in the game. Yes it has bad iron sights, but it you drop to one knee and shoot in three round bursts, it just lights people up. And I never use the Grip on anything except my shotguns because the first perk is too valuable to lose.
I think the briefly invincible is to counter act the other bullets that are still flying at you even though you are technically dead so it wouldn't render the perk useless as you fall down to last stand posistion.
I know why they did it. I'm saying that it's retarded that there is some special case that kicks in where the person can't be hurt.
Well, it's not like there's a check in code that ignores damage. You just don't go into last stand until you hit the ground.
Guys, I can't hit aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanything with the M14.
Neither can I. Fuck that gun, M16 or G3 4 lyfe yo!
Nevermind, I just got the highest score in a game with the M14.
But then I guess UAV Jammer and Dead Silence make it easy to hit anything when you can get behind people without them even knowing you're there. The iron sights still suck, though.
to be fair, your point of view when using almost all of the rifle sights in the game is not accurate when compared to real life.
The problem is, In a game, it's hard to deal with the fact that you're supposed to shoot using both eyes, and that closing your non-dominant eye while aiming is a bad habit.
In real life you'd be using your non-dominant eye to scan down range and your dominant eye to line up your iron sights (or your scope reticle) on your target... it's very hard to implement that in the game. So it makes the experience of aiming sniper rifles and machine guns much different, and less efficient.
the closest they can really get is closing our characters non-dominant eye and just showing us what our dominant (right eye in the case of most shooters) is capable of seeing.
if you take your hand and make a ring with your index and thumb, then hold that up to your right eye while keeping your left eye open... you can still see a whole hell of a lot...
close your left eye and your hand is blocking most of your vision...

My real issue with it is that I see a bunch of white Xs appear that mean I hit the person, I hear the bullets hit them, and they don't die.
Wow, the amount of retards in hardcore is exponentially greater than standard mode.
XBox or PC? The two PC servers I frequent are both run by Christian groups. They are quick to kick/ban assholes.
I've only noticed exploits on Hardcore, but I think it's really just down to the lack of a kill-cam. Without that, there's no way to see where someone shot you from, so there's no disadvantage to picking a really weird spot and staying there the whole game.
Other than that, I can't tell the difference.
My XBLA encounters have been surprisingly fine. I think I've only heard "fag" like once or twice.

That's what I would have thought, too, until I played a few matches of Hardcore TDM. It was ridiculous.
It seems to me that a lot of douchebags are drawn to HC. I've heard people whining about the radar and killcam because...well it does what it's supposed to. So...essentially people who want to hide and kill people with very little possible risk to themselves love HC. So, another way to put it, assbags dig HC. Not that non-assbags don't like it, but...yknow...

Like I've said before, it's down to the server. HC is a different play style - it's not quite as "arcade" as regular mode is, so what's the problem with someone hunkering down and getting some kills if it's TDM? Quit bitching and get an RPG loadout or something.
So I'm currently playing through the single-player PC demo (only stopped to come post in this thread -- there isn't a multiplayer demo by any chance, is there?) and I'm quite enjoying myself but I'm still not completely sold yet. First off, I normally dislike what I call "tactical" FPSes (this, R6, and the like versus Bioshock or Halo or some such). In fact, I'm not a huge FPS fan in general. And I always always get my ass handed to me in multiplayer (TF2, FEAR, I'm looking at you). That having been said, I'm really tempted to pick up this game. The depth of play in multiplayer looks awesome and would definitely help keep me hooked -- hopefully long enough to get decent at the game.
So how does multiplayer go? Can I expect to get insta-gibbed every time I join a game within ten seconds or is it a bit more tactical than that? I'm hoping for the latter. Does single-player do a decent job at preparing you for multi or is it a whole new ballgame, so to speak? And finally, supposing I hate with a passion the multiplayer, is single player worth a buy all on its own?
Also, I'll be getting the PC version as I own a PS3 rather than a 360 and console FPS controls drive me bonkers anyway. Thanks in advance.

I'm not all that great at FPS games, and while I usually never end up on the top half of the scoreboard I usually feel like I always had a fair shot. You don't unlock the "good guns", at least in most people's opinions, until you've been playing for awhile, but you can always pick up guns from bodies and the starters actually aren't bad at all. I still like the AK.
I haven't played all the modes yet, so far the most popular game types I've played with the PA crew are team deathmatch and king of the hill with 3 nodes throughout the map, so that gives you an idea of how 'tactical' it is. At 3, 5, and 7 kill streaks you gain little bonuses to help out your team, like air support and motion tracking, which is fun. I rented it, and made more 360 friends in that weekend than I had since I owned the system, so it was definitely worth a buy for me.
Oh, you and your... skill. Bah. Real soldiers run around looking for enemies wondering where the hell everyone is hiding until they get shot in the back.

I get that way in games all the time, just saying fuck it to the skills I have learned and just being a bad ass motherfucker 8-)
Anyway, my problem is that now that I have a nice PC that can run everything maxed, do I buy CoD4 for the PC or just continue with the console experience
What server are you dudes playing on for PC?
I want to get in on this.
I play on [ISI] Hardcore or something along those lines. If you have XFire, my username is padoc.
so there are two 'padoc's showing up under xfire, which one is you? i play somewhat regularly with sceptre and ellthiteren on whichever random server they happen to be on.
I dunno why, but I suck with the M16. Doesn't seem very good to me at all, but maybe it's just cause of my play style.
Use it with Red Dot and Stopping Power. It's my default loadout on Ambush, Strike, Crossfire, and Crash. I just went 26-2 with it on Crossfire in a Domination match. It's the only gun I'm even approaching the Red Tiger Camo with.

Much more personal.

Bonus points if they are running over a claymore when you shoot them and they don't die from either.
XBox or PC? The two PC servers I frequent are both run by Christian groups. They are quick to kick/ban assholes.
360, sadly, or I'd love to run on that kind of server. F-ing pre-pubescent griefing dickholes.

I had a guy swearing at me and fingering me via his live camera once during a UNO game. But that was about it.
Come to think of it, I really dont play XBLA games online.
That's what I would have thought, too, until I played a few matches of Hardcore TDM. It was ridiculous.
Yeah, it's my sniper rifle. Big monitors for the win.
Oh boy.
Puns.
But either way, did you see me with the USP .45 in that game on Bloc?
I'm telling you guys, the USP is the best weapon in the game.
It's pretty good in hardcore. I get lots of kills with it when I am using my shotgun build.
I want to get in on this.

It kills guys to death.
I can't remember the last time I heard homophobic insults on Live. It's all racial slurs instead...
Well... I'm certainly not buying one.
So why do you keep calling me an assbag, now?

Iiiiiiiiiiiiit's fuckin awesome.
"I'll handle the burst firing on my own, thank you very much."
Sniping is fun, you guys, and if you do it right, you don't even get shot.
