I'm inclined to agree. Generally the better players get 3 kills first, then it's UAV time. That allows them to become even better and get 5 kills, then the airstrike usually nets a couple kills and it just snowballs out of control from there. I was on the losing side of a guy in Backlot that had a 23-kill streak, that was the most frustrating experience I've had in a while.
You have to have some form of reward, maybe experience bonus? but what then for the max level people?
Why do they need a reward? They are already being rewarded by getting the kills to help their team along.
If they really have to have something, give the uav at first reward as normal(I would also make this only show people who are outside), then a spare clip or two of ammo for all your guns at the next level, then give a spare special grenade at the third tier.
It rewards you, and helps you keep your spree going, without actually fucking over the enemy team or imbalancing anything. And since they are just getting some extra ammo, or a non-damaging grenade, they won't be able to quickly cycle through the ranks of spree's like you can now.
You folks are playing Wet Work all wrong. Run fast, shoot lots of people. What's this sneaking stuff? That's why you're getting smacked around by grenades.
On TDM specifically, if you can flank the enemy team, you're gold for a shitload of kills.
OremLK on
My zombie survival life simulator They Don't Sleep is out now on Steam if you want to check it out.
Air Strikes and Helicopters are easy to deal with if you know what you're doing.
If there's an airstrike and you think that you're in the path of it get inside a building, or get out of the area. (For example if an enemy airstrike is called in and you're standing by a flag you might be a victim and you should get to cover)
If there's a Helicopter just shoot it down. Have a kit with RPGs on it, or just shoot at it. A full clip from the RPD will take care of a chopper and if your team helps you they go down really fast.
it should be noted that you only get one airstrike and one chopper per life, so your guy with the 23 kill streak isn't the source of your problems. Also as Dharmabum says there are ways of dealing with these things. Personally I dont think they over balance the game at all. What I do think is currently quite broken is the spawning, and the match joining, and the never ending lag.
edit: for example, the way you can be kept to a location (the crap side of downpour, or bog, simply by the other team holding certain positions) also the habit of the game to pop you onto a spawn right in front of an enemy, or a grenade.
pabh do you really get unending lag? I've never had really bad lag.
Though maybe all those time that I am sure that I shot first and end up dying anyhow is lag.
pretty much anytime I play with a group of people, I can guarantee that I will get lag if it's a regular gametype. Also every single groundwar match ever played I think. Means I'm anywhere from 0.5 of a second to 2-3 seconds behind everybody else. Only way you can kill people is if they dont know where you are, and aren't shooting at you.
A good way to tell is by watching the killcam, if you empty half a mag into them and then they drop you with one shot, then in the killcam you're don't fire at all and they put three rounds into you then you're being fucked over by lag.
I think a lot of it is down to the killcam mechanic tbh, because in hardcore tdm, I dont seem to have this issue. But then I just have the joy of getting raped by clan teams.

No you're the one playing it wrong. All you do is sit either on the right watching the left, or sit on the left watching the right door on the bridge with night vision on and snipe everyone that comes through that side and hope someone, or your claymors have your back covered from the opposite side. Then when you get your airstrike when you are 5-0 with 5 headshots using your dragonov put it right on their side of the bridge then use your free helicopter and you end up 15-0 when the game ends. And their team never leaves their side giving your team a huge advantage to help win.
Has anyone noticed a big increase in the number of snipers around lately? All this morning I've been getting killed by snipers using that first sniper rifle.

I've been noticing more of those rifles
I don't know why. The R700 is a much better rifle isn't it? Heck I even like the M21 (I think it's the M21) better than that first sniper rifle.
Along with the 100 round glock, they should add in a perk that sets your weapons on fire.
I don't know what it'd do to the weapons performance, other than making you take damage for holding it too long and effectively ruining it, but man you would look bad ass.

I put it down to two things. People have been playing for ages now, and know the maps and the off-route sniper positions better. And they have all the other challenges completed, so they're working on the sniper rifles.
And the snipers are getting better. They're still good flanking and knifing practice, but they actually get some kills now before they snuff it.
I met someone this morning who was playing with the RPD who was cleaning up, except the few times I saw the killcam of him getting me in close combat, he just spammed all over. The guy basically said that he does better without steady aim because he doesn't even bother aiming, he just sprays frantically. The spread on the RPD is so big without the grip or steady aim shooting from the hip, and does such good damage, that in CQB he would clean up because while everyone took 1/4 of a second to aim and another 1/4 of a second to scope, he's already let off 10 rounds, probably 2 of which hit you and now you're aim's messed up and you're dead.
Kind of frustrating, usually I die because someone has better aim than me..

The interesting thing about reaction speeds is that if you can aim without your sights, which isn't hard, if you're in CQB and need to be firing, like, right now, you should start firing even while you're raising your sights. You'll be about as accurate as if you were aiming down the sight even while you're still raising your weapon.
So he shouldn't have been cleaning up like he was because if you can react quickly enough, you can start firing just as soon and even more accurately.

I fire all my weapons from the hip if its close quarters. There is no reason to aim a smg or assult if you are like 20yards away, its just slows you down. And there is never any reason to aim either a P90 or a Mini-Uzi. Ever.
Edit: Also brawl, get! so probably less CoD4 for me in the near present.
I'm on an old CRT HDTV, 4:3 (I play in letterbox with the 360 in 1080i).
It does what I need, since I'm too broke to replace it with an LCD or anything.
Jesus, if I can clean house on most maps using my shitty old 19'' SDTV I can't imagine what I'd be like with a monster HDTV. At least, if it's as big an advantage as you guys make it out to be.
I play on a 1980's Phillips 28 inch tv. Doesn't even have AV jacks, and I still wreck you guys
To be fair CoD4 on the 360/PS3 runs at a shitty resolution (1066x600p) anyway. So it probably doesn't make that much of a difference.
Totally. The difference between 1066x600 and 640x480 is completely negligable!
You can see far, far better on an HD display than an SDTV. If you've never played the game of your choice on an HDTV before and are stuck on an SDTV, you probably wouldn't know the difference, though. If you're used to playing on an SDTV, honestly, an HDTV isn't much of an advantage. Things are a bit blurrier and less detailed, but you can still make out enemies and the like.
All my games this weekend were really tough. I got just destroyed a few times.
I don't know if people are moving on to other games, leaving only the good/experienced players, or I'm getting matched with better players, but the last week or so my opponents have been significantly better.

Were you playing games with the PA group? I typically find that when I start to play with them there are two or three rounds where I get utterly wrecked. I think that it has to do with how the party's "skill" is determined. For example my skill is probably lower than that of Kris' or pabh's so when I get into a party with them I play people with a higher "skill" than I would if I was playing alone.
This typically leads to a few games where I spend more time watching the kill cam than actually playing, untill I can get my sea legs and start playing better.

How can you 'climb up' to a sniper that is standing on the ground level under the bridges?
With much less trouble, then!
That is absolutely ridiculous.
After quite a few weeks break.
I just played the best game of Downpour ever.
Sorry for the crappy image, I had to snap it quickly.
But wow, way to welcome me back, COD4. 370 EXP overall.

Pretty good game for you!
That's what I thought, too. I don't know what I would do without my HD set.

Yeah, I had to snap it quickly, since for some ungodly reason COD4 won't let you look at your last-game stats.
That's one page everyone should take from Halo.
