All my games this weekend were really tough. I got just destroyed a few times.
I don't know if people are moving on to other games, leaving only the good/experienced players, or I'm getting matched with better players, but the last week or so my opponents have been significantly better.
I know how you feel.
I've been getting matched up with a lot more skilled players and at first got smoked badly. On the bright side, getting smoked badly forced me to rethink my strategies for maps and builds to the point where I'm more prepared when I come across skilled players. I find myself faring a lot better now than I did a month ago. I've even had some matches where I didn't die a single time simply because I changed my strategies.
And lets not forget lag plays a role as well. Some players may seem better than you at first, but I found a lot of them are benefitting by not experiencing as much lag.
Getting paired up with good teammates also plays a big factor. If the rest of your team is ass, they make you weaker overall since you have to make up for their weakness.
I'm on an old CRT HDTV, 4:3 (I play in letterbox with the 360 in 1080i).
It does what I need, since I'm too broke to replace it with an LCD or anything.
Jesus, if I can clean house on most maps using my shitty old 19'' SDTV I can't imagine what I'd be like with a monster HDTV. At least, if it's as big an advantage as you guys make it out to be.
my projector (when i use it) has a 119" or so 720p image.
I lie back on my couch and watch basketball sized solider heads through my sniper rifle.
Played a shitload this weekend.... scores werent as good as usual... but I believe thats due to using a new weapon. Ditched the AK after about 2,800 kills and moved to the G36C with the red dot. Theres like no recoil on that gun... its like a beefy SMG, I love it.

Really enjoying myself with MP5 + Silencer + UAV Jammer + Dead Silence in hardcore games at the moment. Should probably add a similar combo for G36C though.
Just played some great games with just 4 players... lots of fun sneaking around on Pipeline. Can't believe how many servers on the PC version are running 32+ players, the game gets a bit too hectic at 16 players already.

Just had a crazy Sabotage match on Bog. 8 vs. 8 with 8 rounds. I ended the match with 112 kills or so. Each round took all of the time alloted. The only way anyone won was through Sudden Death. Our team got beat 5-0 sadly. I creamed 4 dudes with an RPG though. That was pretty cool.
I love the MP5 more and more. Wreckin peoples shit with it.
I tried and tried to get the hang of it for a while and just couldn't get it, the recoil kept throwing me off. But now with a silencer and being sure not to fire from too far off I realize what the key is. Stop fucking missing the target and they'll die. So, now...I may or may not use the P90 again.
My favorite thing to do in this game is when everyone is a damn sniper and I go super stealthy mp5 silenced and uav jammer and stab all those bastards in the back.

I even like this combination in non-hardcore. Still downs people pretty quickly at close range, and easily gets you close enough to rack up knife kills.
I'm having real problems getting any kills with the regular G3, single shot on an assault rifle is a bit pants really. However the mini uzi + doubletap is hillarious, especially with Martyrdom, charge into a bunch of enemies spraying wildly, and take out the survivors with the gren
Most snipers will claymore the entrance to their snipper's nest, which means the silencer, UAV jammer and dead silence are close to useless against them. I really wish the bomb squad perk allowed you to silently disable claymores or simple allowed you to walk over them without triggering. In a lot of cases shooting claymores isn't a vial option since you can't get the right angle without setting it off, and triggering it by proximity can be pretty risky, not to mention lets the enemy know exactly where you are.
I always thought a "proximity detector" would be a good alternate to mines or claymores for snipers. It's not one-use, so good snipers would probably prefer it, but isn't as annoying to other players as claymores. Imagine you can stick a small little remote motion detector (C4-style but much smaller) which would show enemies within 10 feet on your radar. Make it perk 1 and give you two of them. You can stick them to the one or two entrances to your sniper nest, or put one on a location of interest before entering your sniper nest (like an objective or another location where they could get an exposed view of you).

I've found that while a lot of snipers use claymores, most don't really pay attention to them. There was a duo of snipers in a house on Overgrown absolutely decimating our team. I popped on my silent build (Mp5 with silencer, UAV Jammer, and something else because I hadn't unlocked Deadly Silence yet) and began to creep into the house. First claymore I came across I shot and it exploded. The second had to be grenaded because of an odd angle on the door. I then made my way in an knifed the first sniper. The second one had his back to me and a claymore guarding his rear, which I shot and then ran in to knife him.
This anecdote (among many I have) shows that most snipers just set it and forget it. Therefore, disabling them isn't a big deal. Even so, if they do notice and turn around you still have the advantage with an automatic weapon anyway (usually).
Just went prestige again, and since I didnt really have a lot of weapon choice I figured I'd give Sniper Rifles a shot again post patch.
Sniper Rifles are the new Shotguns for me. I dont exactly do fantastic while using them, but goddamn I do enjoy it.
I love it when they go into last stand and just kinda spin around, looking for you. Easy head shot.

I don't even remember how it fires without the silencer. It's crucial, though. I've sniped people with the MP5 on both normal and hardcore.
I really appreciated the silencer yesterday during a HC match. Took one guy down, ran to a corner, reloaded. Three other guys came around, didn't see me. Shot the two bringing up the rear, guy in the lead didn't even know what was going down.
But yeah. That was my problem with the P90, just simply couldn't hit anyone with it.
It fires alot like the AK does, though. Fire in small bursts.

I'm trying to decide if I want steady aim or dead silence on.

I've never used bomb squad, but I thought it let you disable bombs and C4?
I've just recently started using it on some of my builds and I'm finding it pretty useful in certain modes (S&D pretty much any hardcore mode). It doesn't let you disable bombs but it does make them glaringly obvious (you'll see the skull icon through walls, from the floor below you ect.) and i find snipers like to hang out around them waiting for you also. I killed one guy on overgrown yesterday by spotting the claymore and shooting it through the floor it blew up killing him too.
Finished the single player campaign last night and I thought it was pretty bad ass (thanks sceptre). After I beat it I immediately went back and played the Chernobyl level on hard...
I got to the extraction point with a couple of deaths, and then got to the last checkpoint right before the choppers drop off more bad dudes: I was at this point for 2.5 hours, never beat it. I can take out every guy (but 1) dropping out of the choppers before they hit the ground with no prob. But holy hell, after that I cannot survive for more than 3-4 minutes max. And I'm taking guys out with just about every shot could NOT beat it... THERE WERE TOO MANY/ THEY CAME FROM BEHIND! AAAARGH
I really wish there was a co-op mode for the single player campaign. I mean I know it kinda doesn't work as well as it does in Halo story wise, but it would make slogging through the harder difficulties a lot more enjoyable.

This boggles my mind. Any time I ever used claymores it seemed retarded to put them in places that were close to me. I always would rather have them be glaringly obvious a ways away so I hear them blow and can get ready to fight, then close and not be ready. There are some places they're really effective but when you're locking down a position, they just scream alarm system to me with a sniper.

I agree with you, but you're a smart one. Random pub players are not.
Also, I put claymores on a couple of my builds just because I like to set them in high traffic areas and have people just run by them without thinking and they die because they weren't paying enough attention. I rule.

This is why I hate claymores.
Actually I pretty much hate all of the explosives in CoD4. If they allowed servers to disable all explosive perks, I would play that shit so hardcore.
I'm tired of getting killed randomly/by pure luck.

My zombie survival life simulator They Don't Sleep is out now on Steam if you want to check it out.
I get killed by them fairly often because I sprint most of the time. Doesn't matter, though, because I usually make up the loss and wind up with a ratio between 2 to 1 and 4 to 1 anyway. Plus a lot more kills than the other guy, since I move across the map much quicker, rather than creeping around and camping.

I get caught by them too once in a while. Mostly its because I am hunting someone and I see it out of the corner of my eye...my brain registers it, but doesn't send the signal to my hands fast enough...It's like a moth to the flame thing. I know I shouldn't continue in that direction, but for some reason my thumbs wont let go of the stick.
It's the same with Martyrdom grenades sometimes...
On another note:
Playing this, and then switching to RB6:V is quite deadly. I keep going to crouch, but then I take out my teammates with an incendiary grenade. And it really makes me wish that there were claymores RB6. Why shouldn't I be able to rig a doorway on a roof, when I am sniping tangos from above?
