Banned for exploiting WoW, before i've even had a chance to play.

So I've never played WoW before and it looks like it may stay that way.

My fiance was convinced that it would be cool for us to play WoW together and we should try out the 10 day trial before we decide to invest money and effort into ny first mmorpg. I got kind of excited because its always nice playing a video game with your significant other

The trouble is is that we were both immediately banned as soon as the loading screen was finished. (we created our characters and then tried to start) We both received automated emails that stated "This is a notification regarding the World of Warcraft account TYBAYV1. Access to this account has been permanently disabled for exploitation of World of Warcraft through associated accounts which have been closed for intended exploitation. "

We looked up their definition of exploitation on their website and basically it talked about using 3rd party programs, cheating stuffs, things along those lines. The problem is we haven't even been able to play!

We sent emails to blizzard which have had no reply so far (however its only been 3 days, i dont know how long it takes for blizzard to respond, since I imagine they have to deal with a lot of people) So we took to the phone lines which took quite some time. We first tried tech help and we were informed that it probably had something to do with gold, or if not we should never accept gold from anyone. And then we were told to contact blizzards account services division.

After being on hold for a long time we finally reached an operator. But she told us there wasnt anything they could do to save our accounts or undisable them. My fiance then told them she would just buy a new account and asked if she could do it over the phone or internet. The operator said no, we had to go out and buy the game in a store and recieve an activation code that way.

This seems strange that there was no way to re-enable an account, I saw the latest episode of purepwnage where Tagi gets her account undeleted and i figured it would be easy to re-enable an account. This is sad because I wont be able to test the game out, and they wouldnt even let my fiance BUY an account unless we went to the store to buy their game. Its especially frustrating because we took the time to download their 4.7 gig version off their website.

So is there anything we can do to actually play our free trial? Was the account administrator person lying about not being able to do the trial or buy an account/activationcode online from blizzard? The account admin wouldnt even explain to us why we got hit for exploitaton. She had no idea.

:( Help

If it was a free account, and none of you ever played the game before, then can you just go get another free demo disk with a different activation code, and set up a totally new account? I did a similar thing when I registered for 30 days free trial, but had to go away on business and never got to try the game out. I got back to the UK, and my account trial had expired despite me never having loaded the game. I just picked up another free demo disk, and made a new account up.

It seems to me you're not losing much by doing that? I could understand if you'd been playing the game and had a character etc. The only thing is, you will have to have another account name?

Unfortunately, I don't think there's anything we can DO to help in this situation. =( You hit every possible avenue with Blizzard and got denied each time. The only real option at this point is to go buy the game again it sounds like...

But check out what MTS was talking about first, just in case. Call them, give them your public IP address, and ask them if it's been "autobanned" or anything like that for some reason. If it has, at least that'll save you from getting the account that you purchase banned as well.

Where can i find the demo disc?
i did the trial stuff completely online.

we do share an ip address so that could be the case there are 2 ethernet hookups with different ips in our university apartment. and we are worried we might just get knocked down again for exploitation. thinking maybe someone on our ip had exploited before (since this is college intranets) we literally had just created our accounts and tried to log on and then we got denied immediately after the game had loaded.

i just found on the wow forums that you cant buy an authentication key online. you can upgrade from the trial though.

what is frustrating so far is that we havent been able to get any answers on why we were banned. they just kept saying they "didn't know" and couldn't find out.

the only answer we did get was because we "probably stole gold."

its sad when you finally get around to wanting to try something and blizzard support seems to be VERY lacking. have they always been so poor with customer service?

You can find WoW trial disks in game stores.

I'm pretty sure I've seen them on the desk near the cash register in both Best Buy and Futureshop within the last few months, although in the US you might have to drop 2bucks to get the demo. In the UK, I managed to get it free from a local game store.

Awesome, thank you for the input.

We tried calling back but it sounds like they just closed recently :\ feh.

We wrote an email to the global customer service director and called and left a message. That may help us out. We let them know we've been big blizzard fans (Starcraft especailly) and that its frustrating when no one in the help positions are able to help or give us answers...

ahhh oh well i guess we can sort this out and pick up some demo discs tomorrow. Thanks for your input again guys

Ah, I just thought of something else. Someone else could've stolen and already used your code... which, in that case, if you find a disc that looks genuinely sealed (not reopened... it's usually pretty easy to tell), you should be okay giving it a second try. Or trying one of the demo discs like cmsamo said above. Just make sure it's still sealed.

I had a roommate that used to break open packages, take the codes, write them down, and then walk out of the store leaving the box in place. I told him he was a fucking bastard for doing it, and it was the subject of much fighting. But anyways, people do that kind of thing, so watch out.

the thing is we never had a code to start off with we signed up using this https://signup.worldofwarcraft.com/trial/index.htm

(this is mentioned on teh signup page)
*Note that Section 1 B(ii) of the World of Warcraft Terms of Use shall not apply to you as a trial user, and you will not be asked for an "authentication key" unless and until you choose to upgrade to a full retail account.

It is probilly your account name of "TYBAYV1"

That just reeks of random gold seller. Hers got banned for being on the same IP more than likely.

    D'oh, a good point.

I wonder if that means their attempt to buy the full game will also be in vain. It's worth it, BEFORE buying it, to call Blizzard one more time and see (A) if your IP Address has been banned and (B) If they will un-ban it.

And then try to get a name that won't set off any auto-banners... if they have such a thing. I don't know if they do, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Yeah, gold sellers use the trial accounts to spam ingame adverts. If you imagine where these people are located, I'm 99% certain that it'll be in some huge office / room with multiple computers, multiple people using these trial accounts on the same IP trying to sell their wares.

I suppose Blizz have just set up an autoban to ban multiple trials from the same IP.

The game comes with a free month's play and is pretty cheap these days. Doesn't look like there's much else you can do.

I would try creating a new account here first; it's always worked for me. If you create a new account and it gets banned again, it's likely a problem you'll have to work out with Blizzard before paying any money for the game.

That's honestly a really weird situation. I don't have any advice with how to get that resolved.

However, if you want, I have a few trial codes I've collected over the years. They were included with subscription cards that I bought. PM me if you'd like them.

Trial codes are, by definition, free, no reason you can't just try again with new accounts. Maybe use different emails incase somehow they think one belongs to an exploiter. If it keeps happening, I'd just forget them and look into playing something else.

this isn't an issue since I've been in a couple of townhouses where our local cable ISP would charge extra for more than one connected computer in a house so we all cloned our MAC/IP and ran off a single one. 4 of us played WoW at the same time under these circumstances and never had a problem, unless of course Blizz is making an issue out of this now.

The trial accounts were probably used by spammers who generated the account numbers using a key generator. These people create a trial account and script it to stand in a popular spot blabbering on constantly about online gold and account sales.

Blizzard would never see your MAC address normally, that's only visible to systems on your physical network segment. It's possible it might be part of the data gathered by the Warden, but given how easy it is to change your MAC address, I don't think they'd bother. I think it's more likely just a fuck-up in their database. Either based on your username, or the time you registered, or who knows what, your account got flagged for abuse. It could just be their DBA got a little sloppy with the SQL while banning accounts and you got caught in the crossfire. I'd say just register for another trial and see how it goes.

I've got two co-workers who play WoW every night, so that's the extent of my WoW experience.

However, do you really want to be giving $15/month to a company who doesn't even know their own system? "If that's how they treat potential customers..." and all that.

I never had any problems with them in the two years I played. In fact, when I went to cancel and found out later that the cancellation hadn't gone through, I called and was able to have them refund the money they had charged to my credit card despite their really strict TOS guidelines about cancellation.

And in-game support via help tickets was pretty good to me as well. I appreciated that when playing on RP servers, most of the techies took pains to try to RP their assistance.

Long story short, Blizzard was good to me. I may be the exception rather than the rule, though.
