Jedi knight 2 and 3 with the one hit kills cheat was my life for a collective total of like, 3 years.

So I feel entitled to say that it does not make the game boring. The trick, you see, is that it can happen to you too.

The Wii version does not look that bad, but it does look identical to the PS2.
We'll see if the controls redeem that.

Yeah it really made the duelling a lot more classy as well. There was nothing quite as satisfying as side-stepping a reborn's strike and coming around in a swing that completely removes his head. You always felt so "Jedi" when you could dispatch them with just a single well judged attack.

If this game hit the PC, there'd be a dismemberment patch in like, two weeks tops. JK2 / 3 didn't even really need a patch for that, it was included as a cheat that you could enable. It was always fun force gripping a stormtrooper in the air and throwing your lightsabre through him, chopping him in half.

Seriously, I just cannot understand the move to put it on every console under the sun and completely avoid the one platform that these games took off on and that you know you've got a real market for.

The only reason I can think of that makes any remote sense is that they've got a separate game or franchise they want to bring to the PC instead, maybe a new Jedi Knight game. But that's probably just my wishful thinking.

Not only does it not look half bad, but it's also supposed to have a bunch of extra content, right? New levels and the dueling mode? That alone would've been worth it to me, the graphics being acceptable is just icing.

What? Do you not remember Jedi Knight 2?

Most troopers/non jedi enemies could be killed in one saber shot, as long as you were using normal/aggressive stance.

It was a little boring but the fun usually came in the format of toying around with them using your force powers rather than just hacking them up.

There's a point in JK2 where about 15 or more stormtroopers are coming up from below you in a big square lift, all sci fi troopers from below style.

I'm not sure, I think maybe you are supposed to let them come up then deal with them with all the environment strewn about.

I just leap into the air above the pit and sent them into heaven.

    It rained stormtroopers that day.

After Crysis, I may just do a jk2 or jk3 LP. Has anyone done one of those yet? I was thinking of doing a jk2 a while back but got really busy at the time.

You can also force choke them, toss them into the air, and "juggle" them with force push a couple of times. If you are really good, you can hit them with a swing on the way down.

I know too much about this game.

I dunno, maybe the games that have a real high level of polish have spoiled me. It still doesn't look "great" to me and the blaster shot animations being used by the NPCs are horrible, but it just seems like a lack of effort. If the Wii is so close to the original Xbox in terms of power, why aren't we seeing things that are graphically on the same level as Doom 3, Chronicles of Riddick, or Ninja Gaiden on a more powerful machine.

I will, however, reserve final judgment because as someone mentioned, it is a small, compressed video that's not entirely representative of the final build.

We already know the answer because you can still run RE4 and Rogue Squadron on your Wii. As long as the PS2 exists, nobody is going to bother to push the Wii.

Plus, why would a developer put the work into making a beautiful Wii game when they can just bump-map an bloom-light the shit out of everything on the 360 and PS3 and call it a day? It's not the 80s or 90s, and I don't think devs like trying to wring unexpected power from consoles just for shits and giggles anymore.

It's been a while, but I think it works like this:

    0 turns off dismemberment.

1 (default?) turns it on for fatal blows...was kind of hit and miss, i think

    Get's a bit sketchy here:

3 I think Makes it where any attack dismembers. Then setting it to 6 makes it where any and all contact with a lightsaber blade will kill anything. You can run into someone while in the en guarde position and hack them to pieces. I could be wrong about that.

EDIT: I had HelpUsObi 1, G_saberrealisticcombat, and SetForceAll 999 all bound to the U, I, and Y keys. then I would go to the Temple singleplayer stage and use the very first part of the stage as an arena. The only characters fun to fight, really, are the Reborn Fencers (npc_spawn RebornFencer, i think).

I heard you set it to something like 2000 or 3000. I think I used to use 2000, no idea whether it really made any difference.

And yeah, the level design was crap. But JK2 was one of those games where once I'd played through it I just don't bother playing normally, and instead just cheat myself all the powers right from the beginning. The real fun in the game is cruel and unusual physics experiments involving stormtroopers and the force.

    Which never gets old.

You see, that's why we need a next gen update. Physics and ragdolling.

g_dismemberment 1 turned the saber into the one touch kill type. I'm pretty sure changing the number did nothing, or at least, what you're describing as the 6 happened for me at 1. But you're right, you could just walk around and kill stormtroopers without ever swinging it, just have it touch them.

I saw something amusing about the game tonight on spike TV tonight while they were showing all the prequel star wars movies.

It pertains to game play in the first level of the game...
Apparently the first level is on Kashyk and you play as Vader himself, not the apprentice. In fact, the purpose of the first level (besides learning the controls and beating up wookies) is to hunt down the force using dynamo that will become your secret apprentice.

Maybe it's old news, but it's new to me.

The complaints people have just been making was that the PS2 version was the lead from which the wii version was ported. It's kind of hard to be the lowest priority and lead at the same time

Guess I missed that part. How did people come to that conclusion?

It's much easier to port a Wii game from the PS2 than it is the PS3, and the PS2 is much easier to develop for in general since its older and simpler technology. They're developing the PS2 version and adjusting accordingly to fit for the Wii.

One of the developers posted in the GAF thread that the PS2 was the lead and that there was a special Wii team to port the thing up - adding motion controls and supposedly higher res textures and stuff.

    the ps2 ruins everything!

    *pouts*

what surprises me is that people still seem to be buying ps2 games here and there. blah. just die already.

I'll keep buying games for it as long as good ones keep coming out for it. Like Persona 3 FES. And the PS2 version of TFU looks very nice. Especially since it's 3rd party, licensed, and probably the lowest priority console version.

It makes sense. More people have a PS2 than anything else. Sucks for the Wii though.

If true: fuckawesome. Fuckawesome to the max.
