So a buddy just got a 360 and wants to hook it up to a monitor. No prob, I point him in the direction of the VGA connector. The question then becomes how does he get sound? I have been doing a bit of googling and I guess the proper terms have not come to me. Is there a small set of speakers or something he can hook the 360 directly to.

I'm pretty sure the VGA Adapter comes with this device, and if not, get it from your local electronics store, or Radio Shack (should cost no more than $7):
Female RCA to Male 3.5 mm jack, and it should look like this:

If you have computer speakers with a headphone jack, then you'll be able to input sound that way.

official vga cable comes with that

and no you'd need computer speakers with an input jack. headphones jack would be for output and you want an input

or you could input into a sound card line in, especially if the monitor being used is connected to a computer anyways.

My official MS VGA cable didn't come with that.

Anyway, I had to buy one of those from Radio Shack and a female/female coupler so I could plug my computer speakers into it.
