"Parsing Game Info" crash...

I'm playing Opposing Force on Steam and it keeps crashing when I get to "Parsing Game Info". It'll load sometimes but if I take more then two steps forward... crash!

I'm getting desperate. Does anybody know what's wrong?

Well, a quick google search turned up a bunch of other forum posts. This one has a whole slew of different things to try but I suggest only trying the ones that don't require deleting important files. Remember, when some random guy on a forum tells you to delete a .dll file, you ignore him.

Note: I realize this is for counter-strike, but the issue seems to be a broader steam issue and the fixes are fairly universal.
