Recording sound card audio output in ubuntu linux?
I need a simple solution for this, since I'm not too great with linux yet.
I've tried various things and none of them seem to work. I'm running 7.10 gutsy gibbon and i have this weird sound card, i think it is realtek 268 or something. It was kind of a hassle to even get sound working on my computer, and the hell if I can figure out how to capture the audio and record it directly to an audio file (any format is fine; i can convert later if necessary. something lossless would be great though).
fyi, i'm not doing this to steal internet radio or anything; i just need to record voice chat samples for a linguistics research project i'm doing.
if there's a way to do it through wine, i'm even up for that.
thanks for any and all help, and let me know if you need more specs of any sort. i'm kind of new to this thing.
Install Audacity, go to Edit->Preferences and select your sound card's output as the recording source (exact name of source varies with the driver). Here's a screenshot of mine:
I tried your suggestion (actually, I had before posting this, too) and it doesn't work for me for some reason. My recorded audio is just blank silence.
Any ideas on what could be wrong? My sound card's output is listed as "ALSA: HDA Intel: AlC268 Analog" if that helps at all.

Then click the "record" button.
