Okay folks, listen up.
Politico.com is the cosponsor of both tonight's Republican Debate and Tomorrow's Democratic Debate. Tonight, shortly before the debate, and also during it, they employed a feature whereby visitors to the website could vote on which questions each candidate would be asked on a variety of issues.
For example, there were three questions that could possibly have been asked of McCain about the economy, and it was possible to choose which of the three you wanted Anderson Cooper to ask in the debate. I'm not sure what effect it wound up having, but it couldn't have hurt.
It is possible there will be a similar opportunity regarding the questions to be asked of Clinton and Obama at tomorrow's debate. Which could be a factor in who does better in the debate. In other words, we could give Obama a hand here.
I'll keep everyone posted; I visit Politico pretty frequently when I'm not in class.

I don't wanna kill anybody. I don't like bullies. I don't care where they're from.
What's with all the Wolf Blitzer hate? I've just been paying attention to debates as of late, so I'm not really clued in.
Real excerpts from previous Wolf moderated debates (pick your favorite):
Wolf: Was Bill Clinton the first black president?
Entire Viewing Population: What the fuck?
-
Wolf: Will you dedicate yourself to stopping Iran from having nukes regardless of what it takes?
Obama: Well, it's not cut and dry issue...
Wolf: Yes or no?
Obama: There has to be some nuance to...
Wolf: YES OR NO, SENATOR?
Last I checked, a debate required some actual explaining and detailing of positions.
If Wolf Blitzer wants a yes/no program, why doesnt he just write down all the questions and hand the candidates some bubble test sheets with No.2 pencils.

The good news is that I think Obama's learned how to handle Blitzer. He at least seemed to shut him up quick in the Nevada debate, though really, all three candidates helped in that respect.

I don't think you'll find anyone in this thread that will disagree with you. Unless they're suggesting that Wolf keep the pencils for himself...

I will be watching this from Zimmydoom's place. So I might or might not be poasting depending on his set-up.

Wolf also stifled himself a bit willingly, due to a lot of people complaining about he handled the earlier debates.
I'm... I'm actually sad about Edwards. I liked him. I still like him. Here's hoping for the future.
Not to say I'm sad Obama's looking good, but still. A good solid 16 years of democracy and liberalism would make me happy.

So how will being one of only two people on stage affect Obama?
I think it should help him- he has a single opponent, and he'll be speaking as much to the nation as to Clinton or Blitzer. Those seem to be settings where he feels more at ease.

Despite his poor showing in the polls, I think the issues that Democrats are discussing in these debates in large part shaped by what he has talked about.
I would have no problems with Edwards as VP or as Attorney General.

It would be glorious to see the lobbyists and the overweening bureaucrats quake in fear as Edwards takes his oath of office at the Justice Department.

Wait, Gravel's still in? Where is he for this debate? Unless he officially dropped out and a caller on NPR was mistaken, he's still hanging on. Nominally, at least.

I'm really into the debates this time around but I feel like I've missed something.

He's taking "time-off" because of health issues, but hasn't dropped out for some reason.

Maybe he forgot? If I'm thinking of the right guy, he's an angry, crotchety old man. It would be kind of endearing if he forgot to officially rescind.

Gravel sort of like the Democratic Ron Paul, but less obviously crazy.
Are you fucking kidding me? They get Anderson last night and we get Wolf? I don't mean the good American Gladiators Wolf either. I mean the "Obama, you're black. How is that going to influence voters?" stupid fucker Wolf Blitzer.
Hopefully I'll be back from grocery shopping by then.
I think without Edwards to help him gang up on Clinton, Obama might be in trouble.
His speaking style doesn't seem to lend itself to serious verbal combat.
During the last debate, I thought he was handling Hillary pretty well until Edwards started tag teaming him. I'm optimistic.

I hope so. I don't want to see it degenerate into that McCain/ Romney quibblefest that we saw last night.
A debate that diminishes both of them plays to Hillary, since apparently her voters aren't terribly concerned with how she comes off in general.

Obama, then, just has to try for a debate where she does her bridge-burning thing and he sloughs it off. Note all the little percieved slights she might possibly bring up, have ready some way to turn them around on her. Now that he knows what she's willing to do to win the primary, be ready for it.

He needs to appropriate Reagan's avuncular "There you go again, Hillary"

That would be about it. Just word it differently so the media regards it as his own.

And make a point to shake her hand on camera right at the onset of the debate. Just to stop the inevitable 'zomg wtf bbqsauce at teh state of the union' question that Wolf is trumping up right this very moment.

It was Toni Morrison.
She has endorsed Obama by the way.
His speaking style doesn't seem to lend itself to serious verbal combat.
Now that you mention it, I remember hearing about that. That is awesome.
On the black screen
who is Hillary Clinton?
She's moderating the debate between Wolf Blitzer and Barack Obama.
thanks I was very confused.
Yeah he really shines more in either conversational tones, or in high oratory.
On the other hand, Hillary comes off as shrewish when she's being confrontational.
I am hoping that he has prepared a little better for dealing with her directly than he did last time.
He could actually take some cues from Reagan here.
REAGAN!?!?!?!! HOW DARE YOU LEARN ANYTHING FROM REAGAN!!1!1!
DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHERE HE GAVE SOME SPEECH IN SOME PLACE
PROTIP: IT WAS ALL VERY RACIST

Lord knows there's more than enough of him in the Republican debates

Not because he's black or anything though. I mean he ran a good campaign, right?
He needs to appropriate Reagan's avuncular "There you go again, Hillary"
Oh yeah. I mean, there were those anti-semitic remarks in 1984, but all in all, he did super. Second place with 30% of the votes isn't bad at all.
And make a point to shake her hand on camera right at the onset of the debate. Just to stop the inevitable 'zomg wtf bbqsauce at teh state of the union' question that Wolf is trumping up right this very moment.
