Just bought a PS3, having buyers remorse
Posts
I actually heard a lot of bad things about Heavenly Sword. I still bit the bullet and picked it up (since it was one of the original games I followed for the PS3) and man was I blown away. I think it's fucking great, and I don't mind the length at all. It reminds me of a hyper updated streets of rage.
Yeah, I keep returning it cause I find the money (600 the first time and 400 the second) would be better spent on bills. As far as I can tell, MGS4 is the only exclusive i'm really interested in. Littlebigplanet looks cute, but not enough for me to go through all that.
Sorry if my opinion offended any PS3 users, I was just trying to be honest. I think Warhawk is a shit game and it wasn't due to me losing. It just wasn't that fun compared to COD4 multi, so I didn't waste my time anymore.
Surely if the money would be better spent on bills, the easier option would be to, y'know, not buy the console in the first place.

Edit: I mean, how does this affect anyone? Sales data, maybe? Color me ignorant.
Its mainly the principle of the thing that's offensive.
God, did I use the right form of principle? How will I sleep at night?
I was waiting on a lime. You made my day.
Personally, I don't care, but it does seem a little silly. Are you going to start hopping stores eventually because you return so often? And sooner or later there'll be more than enough games you find interesting to actually justify the system, so what will you do then? I'm kind of curious. Will you actually keep it at that point, or continue to just "rent" the system? 2008 is going to be a good year for the system, now that we're coming on its second year.
I played it for awhile. Thought it was GORGEOUS. And just .. fucking .. hated it. I thought Yatzee's comment in his review of the demo was spot on. It felt like it took ages for people to go down. Like I was pussy slapping them. Hit, Hit. Hit, Hit, Hit, Hit FUCKING DIE, Hit, Hit, Hit ....
The combat as a whole didn't do much for me.
And funnily, I LOVE Streets of Rage 2.
You are also taking away a console that someone will actually buy. I don't care if you take better care of it than anything else you have, people are less likely to buy an opened product. So yes, it does affect me if I'm in the market for a console.
i'm sure they're still not making money on the ps3 hardware itself, but to know it's becoming less and less of a liability for sony is relieving
You weren't there to see me buy it off the pyramid of PS3's the store had setup. There was no risk of a shortage.
I rented and completed Heavenly Sword and both you and Yahtzee must be playing the game horribly horribly badly. At no point did I feel I have to continually smash people with the sword to get them to die. You could take down an ENTIRE army of people swiftly. Just mix up light, quick and heavy attacks and get the right one for the right enemy. You can blitz the demo in no time at all.
And I said EXACTLY the same thing as TSR to a mate when I first played it, with relation to this being like an updated Streets of Rage.
Although the special move system reminded me more of Golden Axe, the more you build it up, the more powerful your special (Circle) move is (Just like collecting potions from Blue Dwarves!).

Great, I wasn't there. Still doesn't change the fact that a person wouldn't buy it, who would have bought a multiplayer game like Warhawk instead and there'd be a bigger pool of people playing it. Stop trying to justify what you are doing. It's pretty ridiculous that you think it's ok for you to do that.
Hmm, I can't agree with you on the PS3 store at all. At least the marketplace is pretty cleanly laid out, with a lot of room on screen for a dozen or so entries on the screen at once. The Playstation store still has tiers under tiers under tiers, and instead of a well laid out list of a dozen or so items, they have four big playschool buttons, and an interface that just runs slow as hell. The one reason it may seem a bit easier now is because it has a ton less content than the marketplace does. Give it another year, and toss in media downloads (movies/tv shows/music) and you'll have a big cluster f- of epic proportions going on in there.
It wouldn't be too damned hard to fix. Screw the damned buttons. A nice clean list of items, with maybe a little logo or something at the side of the name would be just fine. Give a theme, a bigger logo, anything you want once you click on the page, but my god... And clean up the section tabs/categories too. On the front page for the new stuff, break it down into demos, videos, PS1/PSN games, and for god's sake, demos for every god damned PSN title.
Edit: Addendum. Demos for every PSN title *at launch of the title*.
I will give them credit though, thank you Sony for tossing the PSP store stuff onto the PS3 finally. Love me some Beats.
i'm so glad they opted for real dollars though - we're fucking grown-ups after all. i don't think i would have bothered with some kind of arbtrary points system

Oh, and screw Bust A Groove. I need the Japanese store to get Move. The changes to the music, endings and characters in the Groove versions of the game just turned me off so much, and those are three of my favorite games ever. Well, the first two anyway, the third one was unfortunately kinda mediocre. Those and Vib Ribbon coming out on the japanese store would make me grab a japanese points card in a damned heartbeat. I'm also sorely tempted by the new shooter maker that just came out on the japanese store as well.
I was ok when my roomie bought a Wii but he recently went and plugged in the Wii into a 220v power outlet without a voltage converter and fried his power supply (whoops!) Since we don't have a gaming system I am seeing the PS3 as a better deal but I can't think of any 2+ local multiplayer games besides Virtua Fighter 5, but I think I'd really like the system to play through Uncharted. Should I buy? Should I wait? Does this dress make me look fat?
Plenty of the PSN games are two player too.

HDTV, it runs at a lower resolution on an SDTV (So that you can actually read text on it).
Good isn't it?

It looks a lot, lot nicer. Very sleek design, looks less early 90's geocities. Still needs further development and organisation but I'm liking the appearance of it.
Now I just need HOME.
There aren't a lot of great games out, but there are some and they're just as good as good games on other systems IMO. There is a strong lineup of upcoming content. PS Home is coming out this Spring.
Also it is an excellent media center for watching downloaded movies, trailers, music etc.
It is easily the best Blu-Ray player on the market and once you've watched Blu-Ray on your 1080p HDTV, you don't go back to crap anymore.
Seriously, you get a ton of stuff for your money with a PS3. Yes they are expensive, but they're not overpriced. You get your money's worth.
And by best you actually mean one of the worst right? It is also not the cheapest one anymore I believe there is a $300 player out now. So it would be more accurate just to say that it is a Blu-Ray player.
Sure, it's not longer the cheapest, but it's still fucking good.
::Edit:: There are better links but the closest to hand is:
http://kotaku.com/340668/ps3-is-still-the-blu+ray-player-to-buy
Doing a search around it's edged out mildly when it comes to outputting a certain type of audio signal compared to some of THE most expensive players but that's pretty much it.

I just assume that the $1500 players have to be offering better features than the PS3. I could be wrong and they could just be taking the consumer for a ride. I haven't done a lot of research though to be honest.
So I asked him if he had any Wii's (just curious) he laughed and said no. Then I asked him about the PS3s and he said he had a mountain of them in the back.
I guess my area is dominated by the 360.
EDIT: My 360 does a fantastic job of upscaling my DVDs. I don't understand why people say the 360 fails at that...
actually the ps3 is the only Blu-ray player alot of people will recommend cause it can and will be upgraded when the format matures, alot if not all of the current players cannot be updated in such a way.
Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
You claimed it was "one of the worst" players, when in fact, for the price, it is THE best player you can get. You are correct in assuming it's no longer the cheapest but I believe it's close to the cheapest that supports the new bluray 1.1 standard.
A quick skim of Avforums and it seems to indicate that the PS3, even compared to the most pricey of bluray players still comes out at, or near to, the top. The only complaints seem to be:
1) Lacks IR remote compatibility - but Remote is available for those willing to pay a little extra for it.
2) Lacks DTS-MA decoding - due to be added in firmware upgraded
3) Form-factor - I agree, it's damn bulky and wouldn't slot in with a standard home cinema set-up.
4) Needs decent ventilation. - Although to be honest, it's not that bad for it.

The 360 dvd playback is dogshit. I don't mean to be offensive, but if you can't tell that then clearly you don't need an upscaling DVD player.

"Don't bother using the Xbox 360 as a DVD player (note: that's regular DVD, not HD DVD) since, according to Extreme Tech, it's absolutely terrible. ET went to extreme measures to test the performance of the 360's DVD player, comparing it with a Denon DVD-3910. Out of a possible 130 points, the Xbox 360 walked away with only 20. So what's up?"
I tried using it to output to my projector and it REALLY showed up the flaws. I can't test HDMI but VGA was dreadful, as was component. It seems it's not how it outputs but the player itself.
If you have the HD-DVD drive though, then the player that comes with that is MUCH better apparently, so I'd accept that.
