90s music

I need some 90s music for a 90s theme party. I'm gonna need like 8 hours worth of music. And, of course, its got to be some what dance-able, or at least maintain a good party atmosphere. I got some songs on the list, but no where near enough to keep going for the night. Anything will help. I grew up in the 90s, but I can't remember any of it!

PS does anyone listen to grunge anymore?

You know what 90s band knows how to party?

    b000002lqr01sclzzzzzzzfc8.jpg

Those dudes. That entire CD is pretty much ideal party music, as long as the people listening aren't easily offended by songs about turning cherry pies into jam.

I was just reading a blog where a guy did the same thing. Here's the link, he has his play list posted, so it may help out.

Have you listened to the radio lately? I would argue Mainstream rock has mostly been derivative grunge for like a decade now.

Some of us still listen to grunge quite a bit, thank you very much! If only my screen name could indicate as such...True grunge is not really that party-friendly, though, even though it's far superior to post-grunge from an aesthetic perspective. But that isn't what you want.

Anyways, that link Caliban posted covers it quite a bit. It's missing most rap/R&B from the 90's though.

Here are some additions, in case they aren't on the list:
    Early 90's dance-pop (Technotronic, C&C Music factory)
    Vanilla Ice or MC Hammer
    Boys 2 Men
Bel Biv Devoe (That Girl is Poison is catchy and dance-ish)
Breeders (Divine Hammer or Last Splash)
Some of the crappy "post-grunge" bands: Candlebox, Seven Mary Three, Silverchair, Creed, Bush
    Toadies, Nixons

Also, movie soundtracks are your best friend. For late-90's alt-pop radio stuff, find the soundtracks for these movies: Can't Hardly Wait, American Pie 1, She's All That. 10 Things I hate about you might also have been around the same time.

For grunge-era, find the soundtrack to Singles. Or the soundtrack to the documentary Hype!, but strictly speaking much of that is late 80's.

For 90's rap, you can look up the soundtracks for Menace II Society, Boyz N the Hood, New Jack City.

Lastly, hit up Wikipedia and find the list of musical guests on SNL throughout the 90's. That'll let you know what was popular way back when.

Both Dr. Dre albums, Doggystyle by Snoop Dogg, some Warren G and pretty much anything else from that 90's West Coast rap scene is some phatty party music. Also don't forget all the really shitty dance music from that time: Ace of Base, C&C Dance Factory, that Everybody Dance Now song, all that horrible mid 90's shit.

Look up some stuff from the first few NOW compilation CDs. My freinds and I were just listening to them while playing poker, they're loaded with cheesy 90's stuff.

Aw, come on, I'm the only one who liked *NSYNC? "I Want You Back" and "Tearin' Up My Heart" are totally dance-able and sing-a-long-able, plus they're from the late-nineties, which seem to get overlooked real badly at these sorts of things.

Oh man. Now I'm listening, and I still know all the lyrics. You must!!

How has no one mentioned the chilli peppers yet? For shame... Anywho. Red hot chilli peppers, there ya go. Those guys have a pretty broad range so I'm sure you can get some danceable stuff out of'em.

Remember 1997, when they played Ska on mainstream radio? I sure do.

You had Reel Big Fish, Buck O'Nine, Mephiskapheles, Mustard Plug, The Aquabats, The Toasters, and many others beamed into your home via the power of electromagnetics!

Yep, though I think it started late in 1996 along with Rockabilly too. Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, and No Doubt are good examples.

I agree with the Depeche mode comment, very dancable.

    Erasure has excellent dance tunes.

Cardigans - esp. lovefool, and favorite game

Red hot Chili peppers for the most part...

Have you heard of The Stone Roses

The Cure - esp for dance would be: Hot, Hot, Hot; Friday I'm in love; Mint Car

Anything box - Living in oblivion

Soup Dragons - they have four or five good dance songs

Cranberries - Linger, zombie, I can't be with you
