Looking for Similar songs

edited February 2008 in Help / Advice Forum
I'm looking to songs to listen to when i'm feeling sad or simply unhappy, not to cheer me up but just to wallow in a sea of sorrow.

So far I've got:

Lacuna Coil - Falling
Portishead - Roads
Evanescence - Missing

PS: 'Epic' vocals a huge plus(Tearjerking also welcome), Pandora not an option.

I'd love to be the one disappoint you when I don't fall down

'Straight to Hell' by the Clash is the only song so far in my life to make me stop what I was doing at the time and hang my head in my hands. Other than that... hmm, A Perfect Circle's cover of 'Imagine' is pretty depressing.

A Perfect Circle's cover of 'Imagine'

The first wasn't quite what i'm looking for, the 2nd wasn't bad even though it was a Lennon cover

i liked the lyrics but it felt too cheery

Iris gave me fucking chills, what a gem. I can't believe i forgot about it, it reminded me of Chris Isaak - Wicked Game which I will pick up as well.
Day old hate is excellent, i'll check out more of their stuff later on.
    3 Libras is pretty good

    great suggestions Alpine, thumbs up.

I could definately use more though =D

Jeff Buckley anyone? His voice will break your heart. Last Goodbye and Lover, You Should've Come Over will probably suit your needs. Should get Mojo Pin too, because it is just too awesome. He also does a beautiful rendition of Lilac Wine.

Second for Mad World (Gary Jules version) can't believe it took that long for someone to say this. This is the greatest most depressing song of all times.

Also a vaguely out-there song "The Pod" by Hum which is basically about making a suicide machine for two on a rainy afternoon.

Howzabout some Sufjan Stevens? John Wayne Gacy, Jr is a pretty powerful song.

Somebody else mentioned Creep by the Stone Temple pilots, so I'll throw in Creep by Radiohead.

    Perhaps Jeremy, by Pearl Jam?

You could check out the Nirvana Unplugged in New York album- pretty much the whole thing, but Where Did You Sleep Last Night in particular is good. If you're not a fan of Nirvana, it's an older song, so look up another recording.

At the risk of sounding like a weepy young girl about to write some poetry on myspace, I'll suggest The Dresden Dolls- check out The Jeep Song or Half Jack.

Perhaps some David Gray- Hold On to Nothing.

Ooooh, almost forgot Ben Folds: Fred Jones Part 2, Mess, maybe Carrying Cathy... there's a lot there.

When you're done feeling melancholy, look up the Diskettes- I don't really care (about anything else) and Get Together. These are the most ridiculously happy songs I know.

And being 21 is no excuse for not liking The Beatles or Johnny Cash. Not saying you have to like them, but I take offense on behalf of all 21 year olds.

A lot of Jimmy Eat World is sad, but it depends on what you're sad about. give me a subject, and I can give you a song. Same goes for Alkaline Trio.

The entire "endserenading" album by Mineral. If you can find it.
