As many of you may know, Ferrari produce the best cars in the world, bar none, and everybody, from smallest child to adult (especially those around 40 and balding) would sell there soul to drive one. This is fact, and anyone who wants to argue the point may do so... in another thread.
Sadly Ferrari have seen fit to make these cars very expensive, so most mere mortals will only ever get to drool on one in a showroom, shortly before security throws them out, or by passing one in the street. Every now and again some kind, rich person, who is far better than us poor people, will treat us all by driving one on a public road.
Luckily for us there is a rich person who was far kinder than most, he also happened to make video games for a small company called Sega, that man is Yu Suzuki. He drove his Ferrari 355 around many of the worlds most glorious race tracks, collecting data, which he eventually used in a game called, shockingly, F355 Challenge: Passione Rossa.
This 3 screened beast of an arcade machine is best described as very, very hard. And awesome. The 3 screens allow the player to have a full field of view from the front of the car, just like they where driving a real motor, at just a few pounds a pop. The arcade also includes a proper Ferrari style open gated gear selector, and lots of other nice touches.
Shortly there after, a Dreamcast version was also released, staying true to the Arcade original, it was very hard, had only 1 car (the Ferrari 355 Challenge) and only one view (cockpit). Despite mediocre reviews at the time (probably due to the high difficulty), this game is the sole reason I still have my Dreamcast hooked up via VGA to my monitor, it still looks good, and to this day is one of the most accurate driving simulations on a console, any Ferrari fan should get a buzz out of playing it.
The game also has a number of "driver aids" ABS, Traction Control and that can be toggled to make the game easier or harder, it also has an unfortunately named automatic braking system called the "Intelligent Braking System" or "IBS" for short.
A PS2 version was also released, I never played it but I hear it has better graphics, an outside view, and is slightly easier.
Since then there have been many games which have had Ferraris in them, from arcade (Outrun 2, Project Gotham) to sim (Forza 2, GTHD), these games have upheld the awesomeness of Ferrari very well, but have lacked the focus the greatest cars on earth deserve (i.e. they have the nerve to include other makes of cars).
NOT SO ANYMORE!
System 3, the company responsible for such recent classics as International Karate + and, umm, some other games, are bringing the Ferrari love to PS3, PS2, Wii and DS this March... with a possible 360 version to follow, maybe, if I'm lucky. The game is the interestingly named Ferrari Challenge: Trofeo Pirelli, and this time it includes LOTS of Ferraris.
So good news for Nintendo owners, but Playstation owners (of which I am not one, yet) I hear you cry out
"Why the hell should I care? Gran Turismo is coming out soon!"
to which I reply with "Get the hell out of my thread, or read this handy list of bullet points".

Word on the street is that every single Ferrari will be available over time, as downloadable content, and that shortly after release, the very famous and very awesome "Monaco" track will be released to download. Cars are also deformable, although I've not read if damage will effect performance, I would doubt it however. The game looks very pretty, and hopefully will be sim enough to please F355 fans, and also Ferrari fans in general. Tracks should include such beauties as Monza and as with all games these days, the Nurburgring! You can also customize your cars paintwork and setup, Forza style!
Wii owners can look forward to what appears to be a conversion of the PS2 version (which doesn't look to bad) and I guess the ability to use your wiimote in one of those plastic steering wheel doodahs! BROOOM BROOOM!
I am sure that even if this game is really really good, it will be overshadowed by GT on the Sony Systems, however if it can live up to the Sega F355 challenge, I am sold on a PS3!
Commence the love for Ferraris!

Thar be a slim chance, I hope so, but at this point I will probably be getting a PS3 anyway.
I was sadly not into driving sims too much back when the Dreamcast game came out, sounds like I missed out on quite the experience. I'll have to check it out this time.
I sort of love all the classic game returns happening as of late.

It wouldn't surprise me, Naka and Suzuki are close friends and have worked together many times, usually with awesome results.

'60s models, like the 212 Inter or the 410 Superamerica.
lamborghinis > ferraris
???
I respond by saying arguing over super cars is stupid because none of us will ever drive one in the real world.

They're loud, they rape gas, they attract police like crazy, they're ridiculously expensive to repair and maintain, and I'm sure the insurance payment every month on a Ferrari or something similar would be more than my rent.
But God damn it sure would be nice to drive through my neighborhood in a F355 for a couple of weeks before I sold it.

Not really. Super cars aren't as elusive as people would make you think. It's just that they are too impractical for people to use everyday and most people don't want to struggle with driving a supercar all the time. It can tire you out, especially if you are being stuck in traffic jams all the time on your way to work and shit. And on top of that you always have to watch where you park and watch your back, and it's really just a different way of thinking that people don't always want. People also will typically say "fuck that" to the 2-3 year waiting lists for some of these cars. Oh and they drink up so much gas.
But I did some estimates the other day and I could have had one if I sold my house and moved somewhere cheaper, but that's shitty. I plan to eventually get some increases and save up to get one. If I can do it, so can you.
If I was working somewhere where my income was $Texas than that would be a different story, but as it stands the average supercar is out of the reach of all but the wealthy, and people who want to sacrifice other aspects of their lives to get ahold of one (like if you sold your house).
Which is why it's so much fun to drive them in a videogame.

I saw two Lamborghini's in my neighborhood in the past 2 weeks.
Most homes around here are worth at least half a million. The nice suburban gated communities go for around 600-800k per home.
Yeah, I'd say we come from different backgrounds. If you live in LA or San Diego or NYC or any other large city than the amount of a dollar changes considerably than if you live elsewhere.
But if you want to get increases (I'm assuming that means pay raises) and eventually get your own, more power to you. I just could never see myself owning one unless something drastic happened.
Which is why I love racing games. I can actually get a crack at driving that 500hp monster down the 'gring at 120mph.

Please sweet Jesus let there be a 360 version. I won't get the PS3 unless that tax rebate thing occurs.
Maybe I'll even get a chance to try 'em out one day, who knows.
There's a ferrari parked right next door to me. right now. In fact, I'm looking at it at this very instant, as I'm typing this sentence.
EDIT: Also, the rent for the house I'm living in is $3,200. A month.
I live with two other people. My share of the rent comes out to $317 a month for a private upstairs room.
My rent is less than 10% of your rent.
I know we're getting off topic here but goddamn that is just wild.

My neighbor probably has the meanest car around. A Plymoth '70 Barracuda. This thing is nothing short of just a monster. When he turns it on, the entire neighborhood knows and when he revs it, my house shakes!
He goes to the drag strip often and have never heard of him losing a race.
I was hoping you would have an insight TSR, it interests me that "Sonics Car" would be a Ferrari, it makes sense... although I guess it should be blue :P
I think the main problem with people owning supercars is that a) they have to be a second car really, so you have to buy 2 cars, insure them, tax them, have a place to keep them etc and b) there is a saying that in order to own a Ferrari, you must be able to afford 2 Ferraris, what with the cost to properly maintain such a beast.
I don't think supercars are quite as out of reach as most people would think, most would have to make some pretty big sacrifices to get them (2nd mortgage at least), but it would be possible, I remember seeing a nurse who saved up for 5years, not spending a penny and living off toast to afford a Viper (on an early Top Gear I think). I know a few people who drive 911's every day, and Aston Martins, of corse then you have hyper cars like the Enzo etc that are even further out of reach.
Most people I know with some cash behind them drive M3's and M5's, for there "everyday" supercar needs.
There was a lamborghini game for the OXbox, I remember playing a demo. It was more PGR than F355 and was unfortunately binned when the company went under, it was fun though and an almost complete version exists if you have a chipped Xbox I believe.
This thread has reminded me I must get on with it.
Also, this game is already pre-ordered on my rental list.

not to play the devil's advocate or anything, but how does anyone know its the best simulation if no one is able to afford the car and actually get to drive it in real life?
