I don't want to over hype it, because there were classic MMO trappings I did not like (everyone should just copy CoX's spawn system), but I enjoyed my brief time with it far more than the six hours I spent playing WoW earlier that day.
Accualt, I think your friend might be in trouble if you tell everything you know about the game. I won't bother finding the appropriate quote in the NDA, but it is pretty darned logical that he would break it if you wrote a complete review of WAR. ^^
From everything they have released I think Mythic is on the right track with WAR.
I'm not saying they can't screw it up, it just seems less likely that they will.
I expect Mythic will be sending more and more Beta invites out as time goes on, especially if they decide to run multiple servers at some point to test the three rulesets.
what is cox's spawn system? the little I played of the trial, I dont recall ever dying
I meant the NPC spawn system.
In CoX the outdoor mobs spawn based on the number of players in the immediate area (like a city block). If there are 8 people in one group bigger groupings or more powerful versions of the mobs spawn then if there are 4 groups of 2 people each in the area. Obviously I don't know exactly how the formula works but it makes it so that a solo player can find manageable spawns while big teams can find challenging spawns without much trouble. Also mobs do not spawn in LOS. If you kill a group of mobs and then stand in that one spot they will not respawn until you move out of LOS. This way you don't deal with mobs popping ontop of you AND it feels like you are actually accomplishing something when "street sweeping." It is all very dynamic and rarely causes a shortage in mobs to pummel as long as you circle around a few blocks.
Of course this amazing feature is rendered mostly mute because everyone does instanced missions in CoX.
The point is WAR would benefit, oh lord would it benefit, from adopting this system. Nothing is more retarded than having human beings just pop out of thin air right before your eyes in a video game.
EDIT: And no doubt my friend would get kicked from the beta if they knew. Probably. But, hey, I'm spreading good news so maybe they'd have mercy. Plus I'm not really revealing anything that isn't public knowledge, or at least I'm trying not to. Basically I'm affirming what the devs have said in interviews. Uuuuuh...it looked like the screenshots you've seen.
Though, to me, it was pretty clear the graphics are a work in progress. The foundation is exceptional and I have no doubt when all the bells and whistles are turned on it will look splendid.
What, so now people that have observed the game being played can comment on it? My brother has been in the beta for a long time now*, and last time i even hinted at the answer to a question there was a string of posts telling me not to say anything, so i edited it out.
I wont comment further YET, but i will agree with the points Accault has made about the world feeling more alive than WoW's, and the feeling that there is a story going on.
*he also plays from a different IP than i post from, i wouldnt risk getting him kicked out :P
I would prefer if we could keep any boarder line NDA breaking stuff away from this thread. As much as I would like to know all the goodies and things, I would rather make sure we don't fuck ourselves over in regards to the guild beta. (Yeah yeah, i know. It's been months! F-the guild beta.)
So I'd ask that if you've had a chance to play the beta in any scope beyond what has been shown at games days please keep it under your cod piece.
Well the only thing stopping anyone from breaking the NDA is the idea that they could be tracked down and kicked from the beta. But since it is quite hard to do that, let alone find out who people's friends and roommates are that are the ones in the beta, really more people should be talking. Your friends broke the NDA by showing you / letting you play Im sure. Too many people are treating this NDA like a death-pact. Even people not bound by it.
Stop being cultists and spill the beans, boy!
Ash - This is the PA thread, not the Six Mouths forums. Things said here shouldn't affect the guild since people unaffiliated with it are posting here. If Mythic took it out on Six Mouths in some way, I don't know if we would want to play under such unfair developers.
Well it's been two weeks since James Nichols asked for my email and I've gotten jack diddly in updates since then. Part of me hopes that someone is working behind the scenes on my problem still, but the cynic in me says that either I am at the very bottom of his or anyone's priority list, or worse that he just asked for my email to force me back into "wait-mode".
I figure I'll give it to the end of the week before I just give up and stop caring, I'm tired of getting blown off, and you guys are probably tired of reading my whining.
It is possible folks from Mythic could see this thread. It is also possible those very folks could feel less inclined to think positively of the Six Mouths, considering our unofficial affiliation. It is then possible that that less positivie inclination could affect our stellar playtesting feedback, and possible we would be less inclined to earn further beta spots.
Whether not this paranoia is justified or at all realistic, I leave to those with knowledge of the game to judge.

You still shouldn't break an NDA out of respect that they're asking you not to.
In the time since my post i've decided not to say any more than has already been said. It is a good point about the Six Mouths connection to the forum, and it would suck if it affected anyone's chances to get into the beta, however unlikely that may be.
Also, it really isnt that long till everyone who wants to will be playing the retail release.
I've been pretty surprised that people have kept to the NDA as well as they have. Especially when you consider all the interest WAR has attracted. While there has been a trickle of video leaks through youtube or some other sites, overall the NDA has been honored by the majority of invitees. Not only honored by the invitees but mostly by their friends, loved ones, etc... as well.
These guys have put a lot of work into building a product. We can respect that work, and will give them our hard-earned cash if the product meets our expectations. That's about all we, and they, are entitled to.
Out of curiosity; has anyone ever been sued over violating a NDA in a spectacular way? Just imagine the kind of damage Gabe & Tycho could do to EA Mythic if they decided to violate the NDA and tell everyone how much the game sucks or whatever.

Honestly, from what I have seen in the beta and how they have listened and changed stuff for the better, they deserve that respect. I'd be surprised if most people who have played it don't feel the same.

Yeah, no NDA breaking or helping others break the NDA.
If you watch a friend playing, and then report to a forum, then technically your friend has broken the NDA. While it's difficult (if not actually impossible) to track down the friend, you have shown yourself to not be trustworthy and have endangered everyone's beta chances.
Don't do that .
Yes, we are all slavering for new info, but the info will come out. Whether we see it now, or in the future changes nothing. Except what we see now is liable to be unfinished and possibly bugged.
I would prefer to see slightly more complete stuff than unfinished stuff.
Just be patient. Go play another game. Read a book. It's February.
We should have a Newsletter this week, that will to some extent satiate the hungering.
It just takes a lot of info to feed Six Mouths....
Honestly there is nothing that important worth breaking the NDA over that can already be theorized, speculated about, or pruned from the various videos, newsletters and dev posts out there.
I think they're doing a good job containing their info because so many people broke the NDA before the break, and were removed from the beta, so people know that Mythic has no qualms about removing anyone.

Honestly, from the way they've treated people like Scosglen and how they have dicked around with guild beta while doing "buy a comic, maybe get in beta" promotions, they deserve shit. I'd be surprised if most people didn't tell them to go fuck their NDA.
As they say in the... er vernacular... fixed.
On a more serious note their interaction with Scosglen makes me very happy I haven't submitted my work for the monthly newsletter (not that I've even received one for January yet). If I'm going to hand over my copyright to original artwork for their promotional purposes I had better be getting something out of it. Especially if you say "give us art, get into beta" when you really mean "give us art, get into open beta".

and while you're not spilling the beans, tell us more

However, every time you log in you click that you accept the NDA. Hence my not talkyness.
