And an infinite wonder for what kind of crap Scrabble will let you get away with as words, apparently.
Like any reclusive intellectual, I favor the hunt to the kill. The actual words that end up on the board are less important to me than how the board develops, the character of my opponent's play, and anointing each and every strategy with a Capitalized and Unique Moniker.

Feral led short and I played short onto it, leaving the doublegoods out of reach with an obvious low-scoring punt -- Feral responded in kind, but also throwing his 'Z' into the fray ... a sort of show of respect; he displayed an awareness of the fact I was going to make this a low-scoring game. I punted again, and he opened three doublegoods with a single play, so that the development could continue on even footing.

    Strategery!

posts like these, as with many posts in G&T and in phalla threads, make me realize that I don't really strategize at all when I play games.

I do strategisze quite seriously with regards to personal encounters, though.

edit - my "strategy" when I play poker tends to me to smile a lot and make jokes about how I don't know what I'm doing. that way by my third random bet people really have no fucking clue. it actually works, in a way. but it would work a hell of a lot better if I really knew how to play and was just faking idiocy.

That's by far the most nuanced post I've ever read about a game that involves making words with little virtual letters. Except for Tycho's post about Bookworm Adventures. Which is awesome.

I watch a teeny bit of it. The part where he is singing the national anthem into the guy's ass was something else.

    That was funny.

I had a visceral rejection of the dominatrix character.

    Didn't like her at all.

Maybe I just don't like alternative lifestyles or something.

Actually, the strategy involved was that I had very little I could make with my letters, so my options were to either play the Z now and get the 10 points for an early minor lead or save it for later while using up a slot on my rack. I played the Z in the specific location I did for two reasons; first it blocked in the center of the board, preventing any double intersecting words from being played in that area and requiring that further plays open the board; second it wasn't in a row or column with a double word score, thereby guaranteeing that Oboro would not be able to use the Z against me later.

Actually when I play Scrabble I pay more attention to the terrain than the troops. I'm usually less interested in what words I can make and more interested in how I can maintain control of the triple letter and double word tiles on the board.

I'll only give up a double word score if it means I can make something quite spectacular.

I think realistic sex would be pretty boring in movie form. At the very least you'd have to edit out a lot of repetition which would make it seem like it takes less time to perform foreplay or achieve orgasm or cool down after than it usually actually does.

Yeah. It irritates me that "using fucking real words" has to a house rule, because the game won't enforce. I mean, isn't that why I'm playing it on a computer, so that something else keeps track of the rules?
