Honestly I think it should be a lot easier to switch countries in general. Too easy in fact.

    I agree. Completely.

Isn't the EU pretty much like that? You can live pretty much anywhere you damn well please?

From my understanding, yes. See: Turks, Germany.

    Will do, Alec.

t Loren: Pretty much, yes. You can work anywhere in the EU and living there, is a byproduct of that.

Edit: Turkey is not part of the EU... yet.

I think you're missing a lot of stuff, veec: first, that the people doing this are pretty much dumping every cent of their illicit earnings straight back into the local economy as they buy, you know, food and rent, that they're dumping even more cash in through study, and that they're filling skills shortages all over the place. I don't think anyone's been deported off a student visa here for working 'too much' like ever. The only people who get the boot are those that turn to petty crime, and I think I'm cool with that. Also, we don't actively hate foreigners nearly as much here :rotate:

so yeah, the system's unfair compared to the help citizens get with study loans and stuff, but its not evil. Otherwise my flatmates wouldn't have done nearly so well for themselves.

I dunno, there were a lot of Chinese nationals in my dorm my second year at OSU and I don't think any of them worked. Well, apart from working on school-stuff. That they did most of the time.

Yeah, I like the freedom the EU allows. On the other hand, the UK's population is set to continue to rise at a rather alarming rate!

It is very hard to get a working visa to the US, and yeah, you'd need several hundred thousand pounds in the bank if you wanted to get in any other way (except for family-related visas).

I'm pretty sure it's not exactly easy for us to get proper visas in any of the other english-speaking first-world countries either.

Hey, this is our country, even though it wasn't ours to begin with, and even though we've got a big french statue telling everyone to come in, and no national language to keep people out, we're well within our right to put up a big fence and tell people they're not welcome.

    right?

    Probably not!

The UK does well because it has Europe, and then it has the Commonwealth; it's far easier to get visas for New Zealand, Australia and Canada (and perhaps South Africa? I have no idea but I know a fair few South Africans) than the US.

And steal our menfolk, as part of a dastardly plot to cripple our economy, Janson. Because women are on average not as strong as men, so an economy with only women working in it will on average not be as strong too. Or something. Also there's this one kind of ape that does the same thing in some jungle somewhere, so it's only natural for humans to do it too. *EVIL-STARE AND ACCUSATORY POINTING!*

I'm actually surprised by how easy the family-based petitions are. The qualification for the K1 visa is that you must have met in person once in the previous two years. That's it, apart from your usual criminal records qualifications (and the US citizen has to have a yearly wage at 125% of the poverty level).

Woah...deja vu. I think I should stop, I've said this all before.
